    I stand by my stance that Battle League is the most pathetic game Nintendo has ever put out. That doesn't mean it's the worst. But a game with ten characters and one stadium? That's the definition of pathetic.

      Yeah, when I first saw the game, it looked so slow, and not crazy fast, but the stages fucking killed it for me, no environmental stage hazards, nope, that's not Mario game, that's a boring soccer game. And the fact outfits effect stats, suck so much, because I would've love to customize my character without effecting my gameplay of them, so that sucked even more, but I know why they did it, they legit had no variety with characters so they made outfits that changed their stats, like come on. And the fact caption abilities got removed sucked even more, like I would love the counter play between this captions ability vs this other captions ability, 2 giants Mario and Luigi beating the shit out of each other as all hell breaks lose, wario farting and Bowser just exploding all the farts because of his fire breath, Daisy's crystal attack vs donkey Kong slam, it's insane how those abilities worked, and how fun and crazy they were, I was ad they removed mega strikes, but sidekicks getting removed blows, and along with that superstrikes were also removed unless you get this orb thing now, this game felt empty to me, so I just skipped it and I'm glad I did, this would've been a disappointment of a game for me, and I would've been pissed if I bought this game and getting jackshit for my money

      Oof I wouldn't go that far. I already said this before but I think I'll say it again.
      I understand how you feel, this was my first Mario Strikers game that I bought with my own money and admittedly it didn't feel worth it to me also.
      However, I think Nintendo I knew exactly what they were doing with this game. I think they told next level to set aside content for post-launch updates. They wanted to turn Mario Strikers into rocket League. And it made the game feel unfinished as a result considering that the game really doesn't feel like it was designed with this business model in mind. It feels like this game was designed exclusively with quick matches and the Striker's Club in mind and they didn't take the time to flesh it out. Either because this game was always designed this way or was truly unfinished. Ants to developers of the of the games, specifically Camelot, probably didn't know how to make the free updates work well while making Solely multiplayer focused Mario Sports games that's felt complete. There was World Tour on the 3ds, but that was still mainly single player focused and had paid DLC. And yes, they probably were rushed with the Mario sports games on switch.
      However, I do believe that the worst of this business model is coming to a close. With the growing negative feedback and lack of Interest towards these games and the sales the most of the games that used the business model being less than favorable, I feel like Nintendo is going to look at these games compared to the better selling and better receipts games that use this business model a lot better and they are going to be more careful with, or at least get a better idea of which types of games work and don't work with this business model. Or at least, I hope they learn. It is still good to stay cautious. Or maybe game studios like Camelot will do a better job at making Mario sports games better great for both single player and multiplayer audiences and figure out how to work in the business model better is Nintendo for system to do it again. Or not, Mario sports games fluctuate in quality all the time.
      I don't think a couple of mediocre Nintendo sports games with free updates it's going to cause Nintendo as much as an identity crisis as what happened with the Nintendo Wii and DS era and new Super Mario Bros. Especially with the negative feedback by critics and the fact that there are great and complete games on the switch that use this business model that Nintendo could learn from. There is Animal Crossing New Horizons, but that game was delayed and the free update kind of made sense considering that Animal Crossing is a real life simulation game. I doubt it will affect series like Mario Kart or something.
      I understand why Nintendo fans feel let down by these recent decisions, however the train of mediocre sports game will probably stop soon. And Nintendo might change up their strategies with these types of games in the future, or at least we won't get another Wii U situation.
      And yes I know that Nintendo isn't the one developing most of these games and there isn't just one team doing it but Nintendo is deciding that these games should be given free updates and they decide the release date.

      @@randomguyontheinternet7940 Well yeah but every big company is bad. To me the ones who made Cyberpunk and SEGA who rush Sonic games and others that allow seizure glitches in their games or unplayable like Cyberpunk then that's when I call it rushed and if Nintendo went down to that level then yea I'd start criticising. But Nintendo games don't suck cuz they have other games. Imo Sport games are just the little games that are there for no reason apart from if you wanna see what Mario characters do outside the main games. Like if I was a kid and owned Switch Sports and saw this video I wouldn't of thought much because I'm having fun. I still kinda have that mindset but that's changed thx to companies like SEGA and the one who made Cyberpunk because SEGA are incompetent and Cyberpunk devs...well they had the time and somehow released it in an unplayable state to the point modders had to go into their company and fix it.

Also Daisy kicking shuntaro in the cojones was 100X more content than Strikers Battle League itself.

    • @Prodigial
      @Prodigial 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Full price". $60 today is nothing compared to what $60 back then was. Games from back then would cost around $90 in today's money. If companies tried to sell their games for $90, even with WAY more content in them, gamers would bitch about "corporate greed". You can't have it both ways. You want to pay $60 for a game? Expect it to have less content. You want a full fledged game that has all the content of days of old? You better be willing to pay $90 for it.

    • @marcost.2413
      @marcost.2413 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Prodigial Awesome! that's fine by me. You can live by that principle, I won't. Though I'm appreciative of recession, that doesn't change the fact they're charging $60. Compare Strikers Battle League to these $60 titles: Mario Maker, Mario Kart, and Smash Ultimate. Notice how these games almost have an endless amount of content, or features? (e.g., map editor, large variety of customization, over 40 characters, multiple game modes, varied map gimmicks, large file sizes, etc.) Meanwhile, Strikers Battle League doesn't even have a single feature of those mentioned above. Not to mention Strikers Charged, imagine having a predecessor having loads of content and features which allow for it to justifying $60 bucks, while the successor is far from justified. If anything, Strikers Battle League is a title that's worth roughly $25. This should apply to every Mario sports spin-off which relies on the, "finish it later" strategy and free DLC that only adds characters. As a matter of fact, file sizes could be a factor to determine the price of a game, depending on the assets which are relevant to gameplay, and cosmetic files are disregarded from this decision. With a cap of the standard $60. The Nintendo I once knew is gone, without a trace.

    • @Prodigial
      @Prodigial 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@marcost.2413 Battle League when compared to Strikers Charged, costs approximately between $35-40, so your assessment isn't far off.
      I don't care about half the things y'all say you want, and I secretly don't think you guys truly care about it either. A full fledged story mode? For a Mario sports game? Arenas with annoying hazards/gimmicks that are going to be turned off/disabled once you go online unless you are playing incredibly casually? The actual gameplay here is SUPER solid; I've had a blast playing online. I've gotten roughly $25 hours in which means that, for every hour of entertainment, I've spent a measly $2.50. That's a good deal imo.
      Yes, the niche sports game lacks the content of franchises that are literally mainline titles with mass appeal. Are you shocked? The Mario sports games do not have the appeal that Mario Kart or Smash have. You are heavily encouraged to purchase those games over this one if you have not yet, and I'm sure those games had budgets that tower over Battle Leagues because Nintendo knew they would sell millions upon millions.
      The truth is that, even if Strikers was completely LOADED with more content than you could imagine (Smash Ultimate levels of content), the game would not sell that much more than it's going to sell anyway. Be a smart consumer and examine products that you want to buy. I waited for reviews of the game and for gameplay to come out before I made my purchase of Battle League. I saw the content available, saw the gameplay, saw the price tag, and thought "I think this is worth $60 because I will get a lot of entertainment out of this." If that's NOT you, then don't buy the game. But I don't understand the complaining coming out of people for games that are dirt cheap compared to what games used to cost.

    For the fanboys in the back that refuse to listen. The reason people are ok with Free/Paid DLC for games we love and not with this type of games, is because they are made to extend the life of it and add extra content to an already great base experience, not to be an extended deadline so the devs finish the game later.
    Comparing Strikers, Switch Sports or Mario Golf 'Free DLC' to Fortnite, Borderlands or Smash's DLC is insulting. Because they aren't adding stuff that should've been in the base game for starters, they are adding to an already finished game and expanding on it. They aren't going "Well we managed to put a small roster before the deadline, we'll add Daisy in Fall to make people come back if this underperforms", they are offering you a second round of food apart from the amazing course you already had and enjoyed, not giving you half your order and seeing if you liked it so they give you the rest of it despite you already have paid for it.

      @ThePika78 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      For example, if Mario Odyssey was released nowadays, they would just release it with 5-6 Kingdom to boot, half the posessions and one third of the costumes, and offer as 'Free DLC' 5 costumes and the Cloud Kingdom for the next season, to see if it performs well, and if does, slowly roll the rest until we have the game we have, without Luigi's Balloons.

    The problem is that Nintendo was once considered one of the last bastions of consistent quality from the AAA developer world. However, even they have fallen down the path of greed, and it sucks to know that even Nintendo can't be fully trusted anymore. There comes a time in our lives where we have to question if these feelings of frustration are actually nostalgia goggles, or for once, the older generation is right about the old days being better.
    Of course, bad games always existed, its just that there's bigger and better coverage of it, and the ones we do get are more openly exposed and flagrant with their bad design. A lot of bad games back then? At least a lot could just be chalked up to bad design, instead of the greed of the pigs up top. For the most part.

    Nintendo is becoming crappy, their games were way better before. One of my examples is Mario and Sonic at the Olympics 2012 (idk if it's the correct name, I'm french). This game has many game modes. From traditional sports games to mini games for a party type mode. It may not be perfect, but it's very replayable and it's actually fun. for the first like, 25 minutes of the video, i'd say this was your best work. seeing you let other youtubers take the stage and douse the "fury" with a grounding of the points while still not sugarcoating the way the game was being handled in any way, it felt like a genuinely great evolution of your content and the strongest defense of your stance regarding the Nintendo update model so far, especially with the few years of the model being around being used as examples. I fully agree with the fact that Nintendo's content model is abysmal.
    you also tackled nearly every question that i went into this video asking or thinking of, like "is this video *really* necessary? the reaction to Battle League was already AWFUL" and "how would you even make a video on Battle League at this point? haven't you already made your points enough times?" You definitely did a good job at that.
    but the reason why i'm making this comment was because this might be the skit which left me with the absolute sourest taste in my mouth. i was never a fan of the... "strawman sarcasm" that fueled your skits, but that was simply my opinion. it was just your brand of content, and that's fine. but... were the blatant ad hominem attacks *really* necessary? is putting the fault of everything that has befallen nintendo on a dozen loud shills that you seem to intent on feeding and interacting with *really* necessary?
    imagine if someone that is genuinely trying to give this content a try to see a counterargument to their beliefs, and then right as they feel like you might have just made good points to them, and then they listen to 29:03. if even someone like me who fully agrees with your stances is having a hard time listening to that, then...

      @@SereKabii Thinking about what you are saying here I haven't put much thought into this particular perspective before, However, I can say that it will be very hard to make a review of a game without reflecting good or bad on the creators of the game. Since it being a serious and critical review it's not going to hesitate to be real.
      As far as the bashing I guess it technically could be avoided, however to do that he'd have to get rid of emotion entirely when he is recording the videos, and just from personal experience fully blocking out your emotions isn't possible because I've tried. It never holds up super well. You can sustain it for awhile, but it always explodes in your face at some point.
      A whole lot of it has to do with the track record and I've been unfortunate enough to be a witness to how track record can affect things where I work. Track record matters a lot and that can be the difference between someone dismissing something to someone firing you over the same act. Thing is... Nintendo's track record is not good, so there's more built up annoyance and frustration behind it.
      I think the biggest thing to learn is that people are going to share their opinions whether you want it or not. Its an inescapable part of life as a human (which to be fair there's a lot worse creatures you can be, so we actually have things pretty good compared to other creatures) that I fully get you on. I constantly have trouble with that on a day to day basis.
      You just have to smart enough to see it as someone else's and to have your own opinion on matters (not letting other people force you in a band wagon)
      As far as what I think I'm sorry to say that I actually do agree with this video. The reason I agree with it is that really recently I've experienced buying a game from Nintendo and it was so bad quality I didn't play it. Pokemon Sword and Shield was the one that was like that for me, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl the same thing.
      What he is describing in his video isn't just a what if scenario, it has actually happened to consumers who bought games that Nintendo has made in recent history.
      So, while he did bash Nintendo a lot, it was based on true experiences and disappointment that many consumers have felt.
      On the skits, yeah that could have been left out. I actually skipped it because I thought it didnt fit in.

    The problem with modern Nintendo imo is that they don’t put in enough effort in the game. For example, Mario Party Superstars is only good because it was what the Top 100 should’ve been. They didn’t have to make any new content. I like the game but the cracks were showing when their was only 10 characters and 5 boards. With the sports games like Battle League, they made Next Level Games rush it out the door/give them a limited budget to not have MORE than 10 characters, a small amount of stages with the only difference being the aesthetic (Mario Tennis Ultra Smash BS) and like no extra game modes. Only to add them in months down the line to reignite interest. Compared to the N64 and Gamecube era where Nintendo didn’t have as much money, they could still make amazing games that had a lot of content at launch. I just really hope this doesn’t effect their big games. They know that people will buy their games no matter the content and even potentially get more sales when the game gets the free updates. It’s just really sad.

The game is not worth $60. Compare the game to the superior Strikers Charged and you'll see quite the difference. Then they talk about the "dlc later" thing. Yeah DLC that should've already been there in the base game.

    • @classicgameover
      @classicgameover 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@davemarquez770 it's only the best selling of the three because it's on the switch, and that's it. I'm convinced that the gameplay is pretty good, but that's really all the game has, and people like demeech and a lot of people in the comment section do not think of just the big picture like you do, but rather the smaller details that were present in the first two games and that this game just doesn't have, or if it has, they're very limited.
      additionally, charged came out very early into the wii's lifespan, and most people just focused on mario kart wii, TLOZ: twilight princess and super mario galaxy. this game has just come out, and the switch is in the middle of its lifespan. 5 years? yeah, that's more than enough to the point where any first-party games can rack up over 2 million sales, even a relative failure like arms, which came out at launch, which is why people are complaining even more.
      we currently live in a world where free updates and DLC are two common things seen in the gaming world, but there's a huge difference between updating a game and content that should at best be only really downloadable and optional, stuff that should only affect the game on a very minor scale (that's how DLC should have always worked, so, basically, expansion packs), and a game that just adds content for free and those aforementioned expansion packs just aren't expansion packs, as an excuse to complete the game.
      to make it easier to understand, take the example of super smash bros. 4. sakurai had only 2 years of development and he made a complete game, with every game mode present, a pretty big roster, 8-player smash, trophies, a stage builder, a mii creator, etc. etc. the DLC only consisted of some characters, stages and music that really not even the majority of users needed (at least when playing casually, in competitiveness, it was just about bayonetta, but even then..), while the free updates fixed bugs and gave nerfs/buffs to characters, and in the worst case scenario, it added support for some more stages in 8-player smash. that's about it. that's an example of how to do DLC and free updates correctly, and the game came out in late 2014.
      now look at super smash bros. ultimate. 3 years of development after planning was finished, and even more time was saved since SSBU uses the same engine (and most of the features) as SSB4. and...at launch, the game had no stage builder and no mob smash either, which, for a game that is all about the roster, was a very strange decision. a lot of features that you see in ultimate right now have been added for free after launch, and to top it off, it has some of the most expensive DLC of any switch game currently available, with the additional characters costing almost as much as the game itself, and with such context, DLC feels much more necessary than in SSB4. additionally, all-star mode is just mob smash again instead of being its own thing like in the previous games. at this point, people only play ultimate just for the online mode that is somewhat refined from other multiplayer games on the switch, but there are a lot of people who play SSB4 online as well.
      so, to conclude the entire text, everyone that you see complaining about this game (even myself) focus on the smaller details that should have been added from the start because they are what make the game complete, or at least feel complete. as much as I want to buy this game, without those "smaller details", it's otherwise a generic football game with mario characters, which is what maybe casuals and a lot of switch defenders want, but actual fans don't.
      also the game costs $60, when it should have cost at most $40, which is another reason why people are complaining.

Majority of people who bought the game have a negative opinion about it so it just goes to show you.

      When Animal Crossing New Horizons came out, a lot of people enjoyed it but ended up as a disappointment since it has less features than previous titles, that's why people put in that group, is because while they introduced some new features, they also removed a lot at the same time.
      That to me doesn't merit something that should be rewarded.
      Despite all of this, yes Animal Crossing for the Switch is a great game, but it's being compared to their previous entry that is a better game imo, and I'm not alone when I make that comment.
      I don't agree being toxic when criticizing a game because these are videogames at the end of the day, but if any company is screwing up or a game is a disappointment, then it deserves to be criticized so the developers can take the feedback and do better next time. Unfortunately for Nintendo, they have been doing this a lot recently and the criticism is deserved.
