Stop DEFENDING 70 Dollar Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom- The REAL Reason Why It's 70 Dollars

  • I have noticed a lot of people are defending The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom costing $70. They claim it is out of necessity or that it is okay because it's Zelda giving no other reason. I am here to showcase why there is no need for it to cost $70 and the real reasons why it does.

    The worst part of this is that people are forgotten that Nintendo almost never put their games on sale, so five years later and this game will STILL be $70.
    Not to mention this game isn't for a next-gen console, but for the Switch, so I don't know why people are trying to justify the $70 price tag (And in Canada it's $90 WITHOUT taxes)

      Development costs are not the only factor. There's also the cost of the media in which the game is shipped. Even if Tears of the Kingdom was cheaper to develop than many PS5 games, the game is shipping on 32GB cartridges that are more expensive to manufacture than Ultra Blu Ray discs.

      Because if you use the next gen excuse you're not saying that a game price should be justified with its quality, development costs, process time or anticipation.
      You're saying that a value of a game should be justified with graphics, so basically any game as long as it comes out with 4k60fps is justified to cost more even if it's a shitty unfinished one.

    • @VincentAdultmanbearpig

      @@somethingelse4282 price isn’t entirely linked to graphical fidelity but it does play a role. Most “AAA” games are groundbreaking for a longer period of time after their release, either graphically or in some other mechanical advantage they bring to the table.
      That being said, way to miss the bigger picture. While you’re arguing about what “justifies” charging a 17 percent increase for the same product, Nintendo is crying inflation as an excuse to do this. People are so blind they don’t seem to understand that big corporations doing things like this with their pricing IS what contributes most to inflation. Your dollar is worth 17 percent less to them now, and if you think a year from now (or maybe less) that they won’t apply this pricing to every single game currently priced at 60 USD then you’d be so wrong. Nintendo pretends inflation doesn’t exist when it comes to their games, then it suddenly exists again when they want to use it to lie to their consumers and hike up the price at an insulting rate THEY cannot justify with any statistics.

    The fact the Switch hasn't seen a price drop despite how long it's been out (or the fact that they released the OLED upgrade) is part of why I still don't own one. I really do want some of the games on it (AC:NH, LoZ:BotW & LA, and LM3 being the top of my list), but the complete lack of sale options really does prevent opportunities to get my hands on the system. By the way, this is the month after the Wizards of the Coast OGL 1.1 controversy which had people say "trust is hard to build but very easy to break." It was also a really greedy moment from WotC to do and the timing was apparently right for them with the upcoming One D&D edition to make a new and highly restrictive OGL that allowed them to shut down a person's license for arbitrary reasons and was also intended to make people have to pay Wizards of the Coast money if a company or person made over a certain threshold of profits from producing content with the OGL - a far cry from the previous OGL which didn't allow the company from profiting off content made based SRD content that WotC made, only D&D setting branded content due to it not being covered under the OGL.
    That event shook the TTRPG community up and made people far more accepting of trying new games as a result of now believing the D&D brand as tainted and Wizards of the Coast as the bad company. Now people are trying other TTRPGs such as Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, Fate Core, Call of Cthulhu, and OSR products such as Lion & Dragon.

    It was immediately clear to me the second that this game was priced at $70 that the intention was just to follow what the competitors do to get more money.
    Will Tears of the Kingdom be excellent? Most likely. But with this game running on the same engine as BOTW as well as running on aged hardware… There’s no way they priced it at $70 because it was needed. I bet this game took less resources to make than the $70 PS5 games. It’s clear that they saw an opportunity to milk more money out of consumers because everyone else was doing it, so they’re gonna see if $70 can be the standard for them now. And it’s gonna succeed because they put it on the game everyone was set on buying the second it was announced.
    No doubt the next major 3D Mario game will also be $70. Same with Metroid Prime 4, and they’re gonna get away with it.
    Just like how they got away with getting people to pay for online. They saw the competitors doing it, so they realized they could get away with doing the same while not even bothering with why Xbox and Sony make you pay for online. They didn’t improve their online service at all, it’s just a scheme to get more money out of consumers.
    People need to stop defending this company for doing stuff like this. They do not see us as friends, they see us as wallets filled with cash, and they want to take that cash.

    This is why I have such a problem with Arlos Video about this issue. His arguments for the increase become contradictory and completely subjective, all simply because he thinks TOTK or nintendo in general should be allowed to charge more because its the "industry standard" now. Like, no... nintendo cannot just up an decide to charge $70 for a game for a console thats been out for 6 years now. There is no excuse to upcharge a game for creativity, just because you think the competition doesn't put in as much effort despite the competition focusing in more graphical power, complete voice acting throughout most of its games, and different animation and art styles. Even if this were a valid case, why does that mean it's okay to RAISE prices? why the hell do people want to give a company more money or justify price increases for no reason other than because they like something they make? Why don't you just donate them the money or buy random stuff from the company you don't intend to use if you insist on giving away your money? Don't ruin it for everyone else just because you make poor financial decisions. The proper alternative to raising prices would be to drop/slash the price of low effort games that perform poorly or don't have the content to warrant its price and leave any other game that does at $60.

What happens? They already did try microtransactions, a couple times actually (Nintendo Badge Arcade as well as Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash, not to mention Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball, which I count). Gotta love you blatantly ignore the 1 very real reason why Nintendo’s probably charging $70 and instead make false equivalences and strawmen

  • @GodSlayer330
    @GodSlayer330 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Or riddled me this, it’s possible that this game is being runned on an extremely expensive 32 gb cartridge and 32 GB cartridges are extremely expensive to make, especially when they have to print millions of 32 gb cartridges to make up for the demand. And there has infact been situations were nintendo does price things on a day by day basis, for example the new warioware game on the switch is going for 40 dollars after Nintendo asked consumers how much they would be whilling to pay for it through a survey. There had been two or three situations were nintendo charged less, one of the examples was not charging 60 dollars for a Metroid prime remastered port when they know they could get away with charging it, so Nintendo does infact look at things by a day by day basis. But it’s also a possibility that they are charging 70 dollars because they either know they can get away with it or because they want to test the waters. There are many reasons why they could charge 70. You have to be more open minded. Whether or not they are charging 70 because of the demand of tears of the kingdom while it being on a 32 gb cartridge we won’t truly know until the game releases.

    • @MatthewCenance
      @MatthewCenance ปีที่แล้ว

      Then how did other Nintendo Switch games such as The Witcher 3 get away with having the full game on the 32GB Game Card cartridge at $60 dollars while the new Zelda game has to be priced $69.99?

    • @GodSlayer330
      @GodSlayer330 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MatthewCenance because Nintendo wasn’t the one paying to print 32 gb cartridges. The one paying for that was the people behind the Witcher 3. And even then the demand for the Witcher 3 isn’t any where near as high as the demand for Zelda, it’s pretty obvious why they charged 60 for that. Because if the demand for it isn’t anywhere as high as let’s say a Mario or a Zelda then they won’t need to print as many 32 gb cartridges. Zelda however is a very large series, the demand for it is at all time high, and considering the fact that breath of the wild is currently sold at about 30 million copies sold then they would essentially need to make around 30 million 32 gb cartridges to prepare for the high demand that the game will get. It’s a no brainer why the Witcher was able to print 32 gb cartridges for 60 bucks. And while it is true that sequels never really outsell the originals I think it’s a safe bet that tears of the kingdom might be able to garner at the very least 80% of people who bought breath of the wild so we are talking about it selling around 26 million copies or somewhere around there. Also the Witcher 3 sold 40 million copies across “all platforms” combined. If we take into account how many copies the Witcher 3 sold on the switch alone at most it was probably around 1-2 million.

I’ll wait for it to be a year old and used do you make zero dollars from me. If that game were $49.99 ide buy it and you would be getting my money. But nope just like Sonys $70 prices I’ve never once paid. And I will NEVER PAY $70.

    Majora's Mask came out in less than a year and even though has similar graphics, has complete variety in the world, the gameplay aspect, and even the graphics in certain areas, including a completely new soundtrack. The game released for the cost of a normal game at the time
    Now contrast that to tears of the Kingdom, where it primarily looks exactly the same with the exception of sky islands and the underground section. Nothing too crazy was done and all the mechanics are roughly the same with a few added small features. Not considering all that, took 6 years to make this? I don't understand how that's possible when Majora's Mask came out in less than a year. And the asking price is pretty insulting. I'm actually tempted to just skip this one. There's a lot of positive reviews, but I really think it's more that people are trying to justify their buyers remorse rather than actually feeling like this was a completely worth it buy.

      Every game needs to run in portable mode at a certain level of quality, coupled with the fact that Zelda is a game that rivals a game like Red Dead Redemption 2 in its scope and physics I'd imagine that's quit an undertaking... its time for new hardware if Nintendo devs want to comfortably meet their vision

      As someone who hasn't ever touched BOTW, and dislikes every Zelda game they've tried to play (1, 2, Link's Awakening, Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time). Tears of the Kingdom is great, it's been a hot minute since a game has been able to keep my attention for more than a week, but I'm still playing it, and I don't think I've even halfway finished the main quest lines and have barely explored the sky islands or the depths at all so there's still a ton to do. I've been playing the game along with a buddy who recently 100%'ed BOTW and he loves it too, pretty sure he's played it more than me lmao.
      Why do some people (you) have such a hard time coming to the conclusion that "hey, maybe people simply enjoy something I don't" (which is completely fine, you're allowed to dislike a game, that's how opinions work) instead of acting like the whole world is in on some scheme to deceive you.
      Your excuse also might be the worst I've ever heard, have you been on the internet before? If gamers like to do one thing, it's complain about games, if people didn't think the game was worth it, mfs would be shouting it from the rooftops. I can't go through a single pokemon release without nearly every person online telling me how it's the worst game that has ever released, but you think millions of people would suddenly band together to lie about Zelda being good? (the game has sold 10 million copies lmfao)

    I haven’t played all the PS5 exclusives that I’m interested in yet, but I’d say the only game I’ve played that earned its $70 price tag is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. It was a great and fun 3D platformer, its visuals were excellent, and the DualSense was put to great use, with its triggers giving you an idea of how it would feel to use the weapons you use in game in real life. With tech like the DualSense and PS5, the $70 price tag can be justified if said tech is used to its full potential, but given how underpowered the Switch is, I just can’t see how Nintendo can justify the $70 price tag of Tears of the Kingdom, even if the game makes the most of the Switch’s tech. I’d argue Super Mario Odyssey does this, but that game was $60 and TotK is $70. I just don’t see this ending well in the long term.

First up, this game is already using the same engine as BOTW, So it's already gonna be a similar experience, and because of that, it probably could've been cheaper to develop for.
    Also, when shills say "it's because of inflation!", that's not an excuse. Pikmin 4 comes out 2 months later, with what appears to be it's own engine, and that costs 60 dollars.
