New Zealand women won rugby sevens gold at the #Tokyo2020 Olympic Games. They managed to put to bed the ghost of Rio 2016 where they lost to Australia in the final. Seven of the team that were in that final are back in Tokyo and have but have put that right by winning gold against France. Tries from Michaela Blyde, Gayle Broughton, Stacey Fluhler, and Tyla Nathan-Wong lead the Kiwis to a 26-12 win. Caroline Drouin and Anne-Cecile Ciofani scored consolation tries for France.

rugby seven is a really great addition to the Olympic program, an action sport with a nimble tournament form. And you really have to be friends with the ball to be able to play at that level
Incredible effort by Blyde on the first try! She was the deepest back of all of the players and put herself in position to get a pass. Well Done!

I miss the spectators in the stadium. The pandemic really hit this olympic so hard.

@@wilfredoandaluz5571 US team would've at least had a shot. The women's US team is closer to another title than the men's unfortunately. I'm mad because they had a lot of chances to win against GB and couldn't capitalize. Also, terrible refing didn't help them in that loss, but I won't make any real excuses because it just was bad. I will say, both teams have some beautiful and tough players.
The emotions. Incredible sport. Never seen anything like this. I LOVE IT, THANKS FOR THE PARTICIPANTS AND ALL THE CHAMPIONS OF EVERY WOMAN'S TEAM TO PUT EFFORT IN THIS SPORT! I will watch every game from now on in woman's rugby. Greetings from germany 🏉💪😃😃😃

In my opinion, this game has more "zip" in it than "soccer" which can go on and on and on with very little scoring while North American "football" is all about stop and start.
football & rugby are my favourite!!!😎
For me American football is super boring. In one hour you only hava a couple of minutes real playtime. And it consists of two important players only, the quarterback and a receiver. Compared to that rugby and football are real team sports. I like rugby a lot.

@grandbaycentral5741 I guess it is since they made the finals here. Then again, the USA rugby 7s IS somewhat slowly becoming a part of that conversation. Got knocked out in the quarters of the Olympics here and currently are ranked top 10 in the world for 7s, but problem is most of the women are in contracts with different teams and different leagues so they have those responsibilities with those teams. Means for less time spent gelling with each other.

This is a wonderful sport, and I think that women play it well, I think that there should be a match where the men play against the women, it will be a great match 😌
Not French but some double standards with the tackle release decisions in favour of NZ. Not sure it would have changed outcome.
