  • DIY CAMPER VAN CONVERSION - Iveco Daily - Self Build Van Tour (REBUILD PLAN!)
    In no doubt within my mind! The 2005 LWB Iveco Daily with over 317.000 miles on the clock (one company owner) I bought, was ready for the scrap yard!
    Over a period of a year I completely renovated / restored / recycled the van, saving it from the scrap yard.
    The second year it took, was to actually build the campervan you see today.
    5 Years on and our needs and uses have changed for what we need out of the van. A of grid battery bank for the 'Off Grid Workshop' and to make the van more comfortable for longer vacations away. In this video (I try to) explain what improvements I am going to make to the campervan.

    We've just moved to a new workshop (van builders in Horncastle) that is all off-grid and doing a very similar thing in powering the unit from the van. I'm sure you've already thought of using a Multiplus to combine your genny and new LiFePO4. Welcome to pop over here at some point if you want to bounce ideas around.

    Great ideas! I also have swivel seats and plan for removable insulation panels - mainly for winter use. For summer, I'm currently evaluating different active cooling options, it takes around 500-800 watts (max) to run an efficient A/C, which is doable with the roof size of a L2+ sized van for solar panels.

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like a good plan you have there bud, if I keep the blinds closed during a hot summers day it remains cool in the back (with the wall in place) so I'd imagine I'd be having the wall in place more often then not, but it's a compromise 😉. Cheers matey 😊👌👍👍👍.

    • @chblabah
      @chblabah ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Iveavan sounds good! I'm curious how it turns out for me, it's not fully insulated yet, and I'm only using 30mm PIR.
      The right amount of ventilation can also make a big difference, depending on the outside temps.
      Did you ever measure the temperature differences between the living and the drivers area? Would be interesting...

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chblabah sorry, I've only just seen this. Yes, it's been in the mid 30°C early 40°C within the cab and 18 to 23°C in the back so it does make a huge difference 👌👍👍👍.

    Hi Mark, I remember the first build,........ just a few more ideas to consider;- Maybe a flip up sink in the shower room?, Replace two seater chair with one dedicated recliner chair (if your going to go ahead with the front swivel seat idea)? do you still have your on-board diesel generator?...............Will you go for a slide out top opening fridge?

    I followed the 1st build (it inspired my to buy an iveco 45c15 mk4). I am looking forward to watching the refurb series, especially the sliding door gap correction process as ours has this problem. Be interesting to see if your front passenger swivel will be a single or a double. Doubles seem to be a rarity in iveco's as there are no off the shelf solutions from what I can gather. Best of luck with the whole project 👍

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Dave 😉👍. No, for us it'll be a single swivel seat as there's only two of us, but I do agree with you regarding the double being rare. It seems that many manufacturers of after market campervan parts seem to disregard the Iveco Daily in favour for the "Instagramable German vans". Short sight in my opinion or a market to be filled 🤔😉👌👍👍👍.

    Something else I just remembered and I thought I would mention - with my build I have been thinking about USBs, every van seems to have classic 0.5a USB A sockets. Everything I have is USBC and fast charging at that, I cant remember where I saw but you can now get a van socket which is a 45w USBC fast charger so im going to add those instead, should make things look neater and its more up-to-date. 👍 p.s Mark have you finally added the rear step back! ;)

    hey iveavan man, Im 10% of my conversion in, I did my driver swivel already because its nice to have a sit down when I get tired from working. I looked into getting a double seat swivel too, turns out they are super expensive. I found a guide on youtube that is £20, it gives you links to amazon products where you can buy the parts (no welding required). I plan on doing it to my 2008 Iveco. I just ordered the guide so hopefully it works out.

      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Paul 👌👍. This was my second attempt at making this video, the first one was me going through my calculations on why I needed so much, but when watching it back I thought, "this wouldn't be a interesting video for people" , but I'll go through them as and when I go back onto the wiring of workshop/hooking up to the van (from memory though, the power needed for the full property. 8kw on a bad during winter and 2.5kw needed on good day in summer, so Im pretty much setting it up for winter use, the solar will be the Achilles heal of this plan though for at least two months of the year🤔.) 😉👍👍👍.

    • @paulvose3177
      @paulvose3177 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IveavanI agree, running completely off solar in the Uk, be it in a van or house is well nigh impossible in winter. Also the regulations and isolators you have to have fitted to link the system safely to the grid is so confusing/expensive. Keep up the great videos.

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulvose3177 yes, I agree bud, I don't intend to be grid tied and feed power back as that's a whole bunch of loops to jump through, as mentioned in the video "baby steps first with the workshop" then I'll concentrate upon the full property 😉👍👍👍.

    why don't you put the fridge over the cooker on sliders going into the shower. so when you shower the fridge is over the cooker and the rest of the time the fridge will be locked in the shower. the fridge uses the big space never used in the shower. I hope you get what I'm saying.

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Kinda of bud, I'm trying to free off the space mentioned to enable for a longer bench seat, and also already made a location for the fridge within the kitchen unit that I've made. But a good idea matey 😉👌👍👍👍.

    Hi mark, I am looking forward to your rebuild as watched all of the firt witch was great,,,,, Can i ask why 24 volt and can you get b2b from 12v to 24v to charge when driving thanks 🚙🚙👍👍

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Julian👌👍. Yes, I have 2 12/24 DC-DC charge controllers going into the van, the only reason why I'm using 24v over 12v is due to 'potentially long cable runs' 24v is more efficient as higher the voltage lower the amperage (half that of 12v) reducing heat lose through cables (reducing cables becoming to hot), but also allowing to use smaller diameter cable sizes compared to 12v systems (reducing cost of the build). Not only that, 48v is favoured over 12v for battery banks to power domestic dwellings, I'm going have to go half way on that (24v) to achieve in what I want to do 'to power the workshop via the campers batteries'. I'm just trying to do it the most efficient way as possible for my needs bud 😉👌👍👍👍.

    Good idea to power your house are all the mppt’s going to be in the van ?

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cheers matey 👍. "Baby steps" first bud, to power the workshop first then if its doable (according to my calculations it is) move onto hooking the house up. I'd imagine and more then likely a external MPPT (like an easy solar) connected to the carports solar panels, then a cable (power in from solar, power out for end use) that is pluggable into the van providing charge to the leasure batteries. Not going to be straight forward, and full of hurdles to over come yet. But first! The van rebuild matey 😉👌👍👍👍.

      Subscribed and looking forward to the rebuild! I imagine you'd need a lot of solar to maintain charge, or do you just head out for short trips? I'm living in my van full time in the area and at this time of year its a struggle to power the basics, let alone an electric hob, water heater, etc, etc

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😂No worries bud😊👍. No, solar for me is pretty much a waste of time as I don't stay in one area for more then one or two days then I do a couple hours of drive to a different area, so realistically I don't rely upon it as much as the DC-DC charge controllers which replenishes what I've used the solar just tops it / finishes it off bud😉👌👍👍👍.

      Thank you matey 😉👍. Yes, Absolutely! I viewed a couple of newer Ivecos, one Crafter and an 4x4 Transit van, even looked into the Land Rovers 101Fc earlier on last year......
