I wasn't aware of that stuff and I appreciate you getting me up to speed on it. To me without getting technical it's all about enjoying listening to any drummer. I think Ron's a blast to listen to. The worst thing you can say about him is that at times he overplays. Hard not to with that Skill-set. It's like trying to keep a Ferrari under 70 MPH. As I said these gigs are based strictly on the drummer showcasing his skills. This isn't a CD or even a concert setting. He's not from this planet.
musicians that cant keep there own timing depend heavily on the drummer to do so for them....but that hadicaps yur drummer...he cant venture out because you'll get lost on your instrument..so therefor that musician now wants to blame the drummer....whatever...keep up or go home...especially if the drummer produce the track.....great video RBjr!!
Desde el primer segundo me di cuenta que este tío es diferente a todos estos buenos .Su manera de enfocar el tiempo y los breaks es de un gusto tremendo.Increible Ronald
its jazz fusion. if you seriously are new to this (which could happen in this day and age ) and you want to hear more check out Herbie hancock head hunters album, chic correa, and for more modern stuff thundercat
@Trying2Rip btw, thats part of the reason george and stanley use him so much. they both have stated that he is the only person that is at the level of billy. george called him a bull.
Ronald pushes the envelope and he knows it. He likes to explore how fast and complex you can play a passage and he enjoys doing that. Billy Cobham, MIchael Walden, Mouzon and others did the same within a Jazz-Rock context in the 70s and 80s. Particularly Billy who literally invented the style. Ronald does not care at this point of his career about elegance or taste same as Billy who played a drum solo in every song in his first albums.
Tony Grey-Chasing Shadows-shares drumming with chris dave-probs best album in along time Scott Kinsey-Kinesthetics-Plays on shinjuku George Duke-Dukey Treats Michael Landau Live-Worried life blues, Johnny Swing.
a lot of ron's chops being beat on has a lot to do with the whole chris dave/J-dilla/timbaland thing. his mom mentioned that he, for a while, was learning programmed beats(and she worried about his playing). as a matter of fact in the interview that this clip comes from his dad mentioned it.
Spot on. The only guy who can match Ron physically is Tony Royster jr, who's also a freak of nature. Ron can play anyway that he wants. Stanley Clarkes " Toys Of Men" is almost all in the pocket. However if he wants to be flamboyant and let it all hang out, he can do things physically that even the great drummers out there can't touch. His chops being beat on is odd to me. These videos are about going off. The style part is just a matter of taste. If he's not the best, he's top 5. Enjoy
@Trying2Rip no, more like billy cobham. dennis had his limitations. rons got a lotta ish 2gether. theres really nothing he can't do. when dennis hit the scene, in a lotta ways billy was still the dude everyone looked up to. when ron hit the scene he literally pushed the boundrys of human abilities just as billy(and buddy before him) did. but i do agree ron is (and will be for a long time)that dude.
No Eric, no Tony, no Aron, no one can match Ron, if you're studying that guy you'll understand it pretty quick :-D he is soo faaaaaaar away from all of those guys I mentioned before. Man, Ron is unbelievable
@fusion07mp3 Um evidently you cant read..because Mr.Music Dictionary just said that in the last comment soo I dont need to be corrected AGAIN.I got nit,now you get it!.......Now take time and read what "winnerbaby44" wrote..
This dude is an absolute beast!! The shameful part?? Millions of misguided kids think that Travis Barker is the best drummer on earth...millions of hit reflect it. This dude could outplay Travis with one arm tied behind his back!
Hes a koo kat down to earth ..both Brunner bros are amazing and koo... hes not trying to be like royster jr. Thats like saying bonham is good but hes no bozzio..etc.
I love everything about anthony's playing.
This comment is still very relevant
It’s unworldly talent
Never come across a busy complex drummer like this that is so tasteful.

Sheer perfection. Simply flawless...

He nailled the song and still had enough for a killer solo?? OMG

How it is defined this genre of music?
@Trying2Rip ronald and chris dave.
tony royster would be the dennis chambers. ronald's the billy cobham

Isn't that Dennis Hamm on keys?
This dude is an absolute beast!! The shameful part?? Millions of misguided kids think that Travis Barker is the best drummer on earth...millions of hit reflect it. This dude could outplay Travis with one arm tied behind his back!
