  • Back to the year 2000 with Silent Screamers action figures by Aztech Toyz and Mezco. A series of highly stylized, steampunk-inspired figures depicting characters from silent films, including Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Metropolis, The Golem, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Edison's Frankenstein.
    Only one more regular episode left this season! Thank you for watching all through the past seven months! The final episode is always something kind of different and special, so it takes a little longer to prepare. I appreciate your patience while I work on the "exciting season finale."

    theres a line of vinyl masks that the company cesar made for silent screamers btw. theyre extremely rare and hard to come by but they exist. the nosferatu mask they made is a pretty nice one imo.

      I talked about them in the video, but I edited out most or all of it because I wasn't sure if my information was correct. I think I left a quick mention somewhere in the video.

    I collected garage kits and resin model kits in the 90's, swede creations had an almost identical resin kit of this Nosferatu figure, which would later become the silent screamer figure! they are almost the same! only the scale is different i think!

      I heard about that after I made the video. Yes, the figure was modeled after that kit.

    Wow I haven't seen these figures in about 20 years. I have Metropolis Maria and didn't remember she was from this series. Setting up all those little clear wires into the base is a PAIN, but looks cool. It was great to see all of these again.

      Thank you! It's a set that isn't discussed often. But a very unique set of toys, certainly.

    Great episode! I still have the Golem, which I had on-set when I hosted that movie. I used to have Count Orlok and Cesare but am not sure where they ended up. They must be creeping around the neighborhood somewhere. I might rebuy Cesare as I liked him a lot. Like you say, he looked closest to the source material. I remember, at the time, while I thought they were cool and was glad they existed, I felt that most of them were a little TOO stylized for my taste.

      Thank you! I think you sum up my feelings when you say you're glad they exist, but they are a little too stylized. I wish they had toned things down just a bit. They're unique, that's for sure. It would be nice if someone made a screen-accurate series of silent movie monsters.

    Great video. This was a very cool modern horror toy line. And I agree, I usually always like the color version of horror figures. The color adds a lot of detail.

      I think collectors are going to be very nostalgic about these in the years to come. I'm already reading some articles and comments that talk about these figures being very representative of a certain time, and attached to specific memories.

    The designs on these are crazy. I really feel like if they dod some kinda comic book with these silent era monsters they should do it in the style of these figures EDIT: also not stinker i remember him omg :(

    Great video Raymond. Very informative. Just wondering - what are the chances you will do an episode on Neca Dracula, Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein accessory kits?

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! About the NECA accessories, I haven't bought any, and I'm not sure that I will. If I do, it will be the Mummy one. I wouldn't do an episode on them. I would have to take both the accessory kit and the corresponding monster out of the package. There would be no point in showing the outside of the box and not showing the set put together and interacting with the figure. When it comes to NECA, I would really need some kind of reviewer deal with the company in order to cover their products. They put out a lot of stuff, and it's expensive. Their recent figures have been in boxes, which make it difficult to present the figure in a video unless the figure is removed from the box. I can barely afford to buy one of each monster toy, let alone two. If I'm going to buy one, I'm leaving it in the box. I don't have the viewership for NECA to feel it is worth their while to send me free toys to review. So my coverage of their products is going to be sporadic. I just don't have the income to do anything else.

    Raymond,I dont if you know this.their is a lost dracula movie.its called batman.vs dracula 1967 live action philipeano film.i think theirs a clip on youtube.but so far full film has not surfaced.

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen some TH-cam videos about it. The clip I saw is from the wrong movie. No clip has surfaced, that I know of, from Batman Fights Dracula. I like Filipino horror films quite a bit. But I really want them to star John Ashley, Eddie Garcia, Ronald Remy, Pam Grier or Sid Haig.

    My brother had a few of those back when they were released, and I was totally perplexed by the existence of such a niche toy line at the time. I guess it was a relatively thrifty way for a new company to capture some of McFarlane’s market, though!

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they were clearly trying to get in on the McFarlane trend. At that time, you could either compete with McFarlane or Sideshow. They went the McFarlane route.

    I can appreciate the fact that you would not collect toys related to real life, I am the same way I would not feel comfortable collecting toys related to some ones misfortune or to make a profit off of it, I am just as well happy keeping things in the fantasy world and collecting toys that relate to such, unfortunately there are items out there. I came across a Hitler action figure a while back and it was so perfectly crafted and put together and I thought how great it would be in my collection, but my gut feeling was this is just wrong and I just could not bring myself to buy such a figure so I had to take a pass, unless of course it was for a museum purpose. But its just little ol me and my collection, sometimes you just have to say "no" to certain things. Thanks always for your great videos and long talks, Your one of my favorite TH-camrs, please keep up the great work.

      Thank you! A friend reminded me that I have a Vlad Tepes Sideshow figure, so I'm not pure on this. But to me, a Tepes figure is really a Dracula figure.

    Two comments. Penultimate is usually a grand statement. Telling all to savor what it left, because the ending is soon.
    Alex Ross fools you to believe his art is great. Look at Rockwell or Frazetta there illustrations look so alive. You can feel everything they painted. Alex Ross feels like a plastic. All the ingredients for a great image are there, yet it is impossible for me to loose myself.

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex Ross has a monumental style. That doesn't mean "great." It means monumental, like the Pyramids or Mount Rushmore. His paintings look like monuments honoring the characters. You either like that or you don't. I like it.

      When these originally came out, I didn't have the scratch to buy them. I was always curious to see what they were like. That original concept art for Count Orlock is marvelous. Thank you for all of the background info you put into these videos. I always come away with something new.

    Newly created monster toys based on classic characters is not as fun or charming as VINTAGE stuff. It's clutter. And there is NO END IN SIGHT . That is another issue. Where do you draw the line? Also - would you not RATHER spend that money on VINTAGE stuff ????? I have a feeling you're getting a lot of "freebies" though. And that's OK. Is it possible that you have everything you need as a collector ? Again; there is a "fatigue" from just producing ANYTHING / ANYTIME . Imagine if LIFE was CGI. And you could just BLINK and a Mattel Lon Chaney London After Midnight talking doll appeared . LOL. And I am just projecting here . I have a decent "horror toy" collection from the 1960s and 1970s. I started collecting those Side Show Monsters / newly produced Universal Monsters and such in the 1990s / 2000s . I just got tired of them and sold them all in one big lot. If you have the Mattel Herman Munster in the box-- everything else looks cheap and flimsy!

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't get any freebies. I can think of two examples of "freebies" since I started this channel, and they were from independent toy producers. I do get gifts occasionally, but I think you're talking about free toys for me to review. I almost never do that. Not that I wouldn't do it, but not many companies think my channel is big enough to bother with. I don't think collector-oriented toy companies do that very often, even with bigger channels. I think you see that more with kid-oriented toy channels.
