Thank you for the question as far as my understanding as long as you have a clean surface that's oil-free and dust free it can be attached that's why I bought it I saw this product applied to an RV with a steel aluminum roof and also another roof with just the plywood they applied this before they put their roofing materials on just because the only one that extra layer of protection I hope this helps
