Yeah me too I married Aela the huntress early in the game and none showed up to my wedding except Lydia, but on another play through I was half way through the game and was a Thane in all the holds and apart of some guilds/faction and my wedding was pact with people.
I feel the same way too after whenever I get married in every playthrough, so much so that I either reload the save so I’m not married or just call off the wedding and get all the npcs infuriated

Yeah? I don’t see how it isn’t beneficial getting married as you literally get 100 Gold every 24 hours from your spouse, for me it’s one of the easiest ways to make gold in Skyrim.

I'm disappointed that they removed the option to marry Elisif :/ Would have been great to be the high king, even if it would have required doing the civil war quest line, wolf queen quests, becoming thane of Haafingar, and the personal errand for Elisif.
@@donnellebarfield3964 well, the story progression doesn't have to be that quick. To earn merits so you can be thane, the wolf queen quest, and the civil war might take years to finish. And if Elisif takes fancy of you during the years, I don't see why not.
Getting married was the last achievement I got for the original Skyrim, about a year after the previous achievement. After I got it, I immediately reloaded an old save and continued on with what I was doing.

I recommend the Priestess of Dibella in Markarth :) she is considered an essential character at all times. Move her to a place in the city with a housecarl and watch the magic.
To get an amulet of Mara, I would consider going to Dinya (who works in the temple of Mara alongside Maramal) because she will give you one for free if you do a few missions for her in the name of Mara.
I married Shavee as I felt bad for her living out on the docks of Windhelm. She also was the only female Argonian that I’ve known that could be married. But don’t make the same mistakes I did: Don’t adopt needy children. They’ll constantly make you feel guilty for abandoning them while you adventure.
The Elder Scrolls VI BETTER make it so your spouse becomes an essential character after you marry them. I WAS going to marry Aela, but then I read on the wiki that she is no longer essential after you finish The Companians' questline, so I married Mjoll instead, who is always essential for some unknown reason. If your spouse doesn't live in one of Herthfire's homesteads however, you probably don't have to worry about that one radiant quest where they are kidnapped killing them, nor random giant attacks.

I wish there was an option to help faendal getting married. This guy really gives me so much in every game i play. Every time i take his keys and take everything. Have better weapons and armor. Even smithing stuff like animal hides. So every time a start with better weapons and lots of money. I even take the troll skull so if you take all his stuff till its empty you really leave trollfaced with the best starting companion. So at the end i give him my best gear back and some dragon bones and scales so he can proof everyone he is a real dragonslayer. I hope the next Elder Scrolls put more into friendships in the game.

Well ya can’t marry her because she doesn’t wanna be raped again. Not a joke. If you look into her lore, the way she was turned into a vampire was because either Molag Bal or Mehrunes Dagon (I always get the two mixed up) tapes her in a temple. She now hates temples, and despises them.
Skyrim has the most unrealistic marriage system in the game. You think a wife is going to move into your house and not argue why you have all the mannequins that have all these weird clothes and items on. She is going to take that place over, make you sell or even get rid of that stuff, and slowly it is going to go into the basement. The perks in marriage are that some become a shopkeeper and sells you stuff and others have perks. They got the sexlessness right but she would be preston garveying all across tamriel for items that she just wants you to get, make you not go out with your companions. She would be begging for a bigger house and complaining that we don't have a castle like the last game. Every now and again, she would go up to you and ask you to fix the fire or maybe see if the enchanting table is working. Then if you have been with Lydia for too long, she will make you go to the town shops and hold her items while she shopped. That is realistic marriage in Skyrim.

Every Elders scrolls game i play a redguard. to keep it lore friendly for my playthrough i had to marry another redguard. My character is kind of a swindler character of opportunity, Master of coin. I did the mod so i could marry anyone. I saved Saadia and married her because we both have secrets to hide
Never bothered with the vanilla marriage candidates, but one of my games had among other mods 'An Altmer Intrigue' which adds Pelin Varlais as a slightly more fleshed-out follower/spouse and the 'Against the Thalmor' series of quests, it was nice.

I'm the type of person that, if I feel like everything isn't perfect, I gotta restart my whole character or at least go back to an older save. I spent HOURS experimenting with and marrying people on different saves. Taarie, Mjoll, Ysolda, Aela. I eventually settled with the woman I always marry on my playthroughs; Ysolda.
My favorite is probably Senna, just because of her sass. I actually tried a mod where I married Serana and kinda regretted it. I think the voice lines that she uses now are very awkward. She also complains about the weather, even though she has the option to stay inside at all times.
Personally, in a world so full of wonder with realms to explore, skills to master, beasts to slay, playstyles to experiment with, storylines to pursue and mods that expand on all these things infinitely... Why in oblivion would I want to get married?
There's a list of commands to "divorce" your spouse. If you look it up it will give you the list, but it's basically breaking off the friendliness level of said spouse. If you still have your amulet you can go and find the next person you want to marry. Wait 24 hours after putting in the commands or else you'll break your game. Of course it's only for pc unless there is a divorce mod for consoles but I'm not sure if there are any since I haven't played console skyrim since the 360 days.

There is a mod to have a merchant stand place near or in the hold that the player character has a home in and a person in each of the holds will sell you the stand for 1000 septums as well as there is a NPC you can hire to watch the stand. The mod has its own type of mini Quest but there's not much the player has to do but keep the chest of items you want to sell full.

I married Aela in my first playthrough before I knew about the different benefits you can get from various spouses. Then I found out the only way out of it was to kill your spouse. Fine, I’ve done the Dark Brotherhood before, I’ve got a particular set of skills that make me a nightmare for people like her...only problem was, Aela can’t be killed. I started a new character and said fuck off to being her Shield-Brother.
Steps to re-marry / divorce using console commands (PC only): Select spouse. Enter the following console commands: removefac 51596 player.removefac C6472 resetquest 74793 resetquest 21382 setstage 74793 10 Wait for 24 hours. Then proceed to marry as normal.
Free meals daily that enhance skill gain points, a stipend of 100 gold a day and a Lovers Arms Perk that also enhanced skill points. All you need is a Good home and a well armed Housecarl.

Every now and again, she would go up to you and ask you to fix the fire or maybe see if the enchanting table is working. Then if you have been with Lydia for too long, she will make you go to the town shops and hold her items while she shopped. That is realistic marriage in Skyrim.

I've never actually played Skyrim but I bought the special edition for pc a couple of years ago and I'm thinking about maybe playing it one day. I also just love your accent! Every Elders scrolls game i play a redguard. to keep it lore friendly for my playthrough i had to marry another redguard. My character is kind of a swindler character of opportunity, Master of coin. I did the mod so i could marry anyone. I saved Saadia and married her because we both have secrets to hide
I used to get married so my kids would have a parent to look after them. Then I realized I can just have Lydia do it, so now I usually don’t bother.

Never bothered with the vanilla marriage candidates, but one of my games had among other mods 'An Altmer Intrigue' which adds Pelin Varlais as a slightly more fleshed-out follower/spouse and the 'Against the Thalmor' series of quests, it was nice.

Took me hours! I'm the type of person that, if I feel like everything isn't perfect, I gotta restart my whole character or at least go back to an older save. I spent HOURS experimenting with and marrying people on different saves. Taarie, Mjoll, Ysolda, Aela. I eventually settled with the woman I always marry on my playthroughs; Ysolda.
My favorite is probably Senna, just because of her sass. I actually tried a mod where I married Serana and kinda regretted it. I think the voice lines that she uses now are very awkward. She also complains about the weather, even though she has the option to stay inside at all times.

I wish it was like Fable where you could have a wife per Thane-ship you hold throughout Skyrim.
There's a list of commands to "divorce" your spouse. If you look it up it will give you the list, but it's basically breaking off the friendliness level of said spouse. If you still have your amulet you can go and find the next person you want to marry. Wait 24 hours after putting in the commands or else you'll break your game. Of course it's only for pc unless there is a divorce mod for consoles but I'm not sure if there are any since I haven't played console skyrim since the 360 days.

There is a mod to have a merchant stand place near or in the hold that the player character has a home in and a person in each of the holds will sell you the stand for 1000 septums as well as there is a NPC you can hire to watch the stand. The mod has its own type of mini Quest but there's not much the player has to do but keep the chest of items you want to sell full.

It’s been so long since I played vanilla Skyrim, that I don’t remember who I usually married. I have only ever played any of the TES games as a Bosmer.
With mods, I usually marry a nice looking Bosmer guy from the Elvenwood mod. I believe his name is Thoronor. This latest playthrough, I accidentally missed our wedding, completely unintentionally, & had to kiss his arse to gimme a 2nd chance. 😁 I adventured with him for a time, then made him a house husband to care for what WILL be an expanded brood of 6 adopted children of a few races (ironically not Bosmer bcuz I couldn’t find any). Currently, just have the 1 khajit female child. But, I’m working on it.
I also have a mod to be able to kiss my spouse, but it is super weird and doesn’t work right.
I married Aela in my first playthrough before I knew about the different benefits you can get from various spouses. Then I found out the only way out of it was to kill your spouse. Fine, I’ve done the Dark Brotherhood before, I’ve got a particular set of skills that make me a nightmare for people like her...only problem was, Aela can’t be killed.
I started a new character and said fuck off to being her Shield-Brother.

Steps to re-marry / divorce using console commands (PC only):
Select spouse.
Enter the following console commands:
removefac 51596
player.removefac C6472
resetquest 74793
resetquest 21382
setstage 74793 10
Wait for 24 hours.
Then proceed to marry as normal.
