TRX4 sport competitor Nice !👍 Hopefully it comes out in a kit form with clear windows, a sticker sheet and molded grill/brake light assemblies the added details that count ! Single speed 😍 Great start for a comp build !! 👍👍 Awesome video !
lol let the kid unbox it. as a kid. its allllll i remember about the hobby, but again, with you,, theres many more boxes for him to open up. keep the good videos coming !!!
Great video. It’s nice to see axial came out with an inexpensive way to get into the hobby. It’s also nice to see a direct competitor to the traxxas trx-4 sport. Always love the videos
I see Axial getting a lot of flack on this release, and aside from some weird body choices I totally get it. At it's price point it makes a lot of sense. Some misses, but all in all I like the direction it moving towards. Like most, I am looking forward and hoping for a builders kit.
Yeah, it seems like we’re at a point where people are expecting epic release after epic release. In reality that can’t happen. But they can fill in gaps easily and Base Camp does that. I’ve been living with these for weeks so the bodies have grown on me and I won’t mind when I trash them pushing the rig too far. Maybe sliders and beadlock wheels would have been nice, but all in all it’s good. I agree a kit would be great!
It was great you & fam got to enjoy a day together. But it’s just to expensive. They should have don’t dirt cheap electronics & tried to get @ $329 mark. It just seems expensive. But hey I think I spent $30 on pizza tonight. lol
Great review as always Greg, and nice that you got out with your boys. I will admit that I spend half the time watching your videos trying to figure out where you are trailing so I can get my rigs out there.
When he said "Jake, where you at? I know you're all about the green trucks!" I was convinced he was talking to me cause I picked up the green Basecamp a few weeks ago!
As always great video very informative. RC has found its way with my family too. Last month we took a few days off in Northern MN and brought the RC trucks with us. It was a great experience and hope to do it again soon. The wife likes/wants the TRX4 79 Bronco, maybe this could be another option. Who knows but either way fun/therapeutic journey for the kids and adults. Like button pressed to excite the algorithms. As always many thanks for the effort you put into the channel. Cheers!!!
We had a great time with them. With this truck I just handed the boys the radio and didn’t care what happened to them; rolls, hits. They held up great!
Agreed! Way to take a bad release and make the best of it with family. And thank you for the solid review of a truck that is available from just about every other crawler manufacturer for less then this one. looks like you guys had fun though. that's a win with this one. thanks for sharing.
Disagree, I think this truck is amazing and the light body performs well and definitely grows on u with a bit of decals. Also the ar 45 portal axles make it a good value already. Even the shocks are really decent. At this price point it’s the best axial performance wise yet to date and with a little brass and some upgrades and tinkering it’s been a beast so far and outperforms my trx4 sport. I think axial hit a home run with this truck. It quickly became my favorite in a fleet of many.
@@rcdabbler I personally don't own a trx4 I own a redcat gen8 v1 and a redcat gen8 axe edition and love them both. But I've never heard a rc sound this good. Like I legit enjoy the sound of this new truck. Well done on the video and content. It's always a blast to involve your children.
So it’s $20 more then TRX4 sport RTR? I’m confused on what axial is trying to do🤪. Don’t get me wrong d I like my axial UMG, But this just seems to miss the price point @ $400.
@@rcdriver i live in manchester and i bash with a friend over there, there's some beautiful hill climb style stuff there, super fun, some jumps, lots of big space to go fast, great spot for a desert truck style, my buddies rock rey was climbing all the way up the steep sand hills around the edge
@@traviswilliams3209 That's awesome! Do you mind if I ask where you park? I parked on some dead end street at a trail head and had to hike in. Is there something closer?
@@rcdriver yes same spot, there's a side spot off the golf course thats a steep downhill to the area, less fun but much closer, you could literally drive in
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think this is an excellent release! It’s a great price point for people wanting to join the hobby, and for people who want to build up their own rig without having to spend more for the fancier version!
Some of the people complaining are the experienced that think every release needs to be epic and fits their specific needs. They don’t think about the base of our hobby and it’s growth. Your opinion is extremely valuable to have in the comments.
I've been doing RC for 10+ years and i dont need a 2 speed trans or dig feature. It's more parts that will break and need maintenance. The Base Camp is awesome and the opinions of those hating it are invalid.
Seriously, get a TRX4 Sport. I got mine a month ago, and I was all hot-to-trot on Axial there for a minute. If you want something different and interesting, consider the Axial Capra 4WS, but if you want one RTR rock crawler, there is no match for the TRX4 Sport. Best durability, capability, most fun, bar none. I obsessed over my decision, making sure I spent my money with the right product. It only took one rip on the rocks to know I made the right choice.
Any issues with it months later? Looking to get into the crawler scene since my granite keeps giving me issues. I'm thinking something that goes slower might be better for me.
Nice budget rig. They wanted to compete with the TRX4 Sport I imagine. My only beef is why do we not have plastic beadlocks? Not too shabby otherwise. Also that was a nice outing with the boys. Glad you got them started early.
additionally I highly recommend for your channel to post Sublinks to this video. example` I was first at the top 5 crawlers video and saw a clip of this video. i would have liked to see this video if you like tagged a link to that day of using these trucks.
Not impressed with the new release but geez how great it must be to get multiple rigs sent to ya for free. An RC hobbyists dream lol. Send me 4 or 5 and Ill talk about how great it is too!!! Lol. All jokes aside I just think they missed the mark on this one. Just my opinion but i feel like for $390 that the Element Ecto ($399), Trx 4 Kit ($399), Element Sendero ($375) or the Trx4 Sport ($369) are much better options in that price range. I just see a lot of cheap components here. Im gonna get one because Im an RC Crawler freak who will want to see and try it out for myself but I just dont see it impressing me much.
seems a very good rig just a shame the body looks a bit toy grade, but decent running gear, an RC4WD Tacoma shell would look right nice on this and would perform well
every brand is copying every other brand. Traxxas copied the kraton now axial copied the trx4 sport. This is not where I thought this hobby would go this year

Great start for a comp build !! 👍👍
Awesome video !
Oh yeah that caption for this video was spot on. Axial Life starts with the Base Camp.
Your review was excellent. I thought it was very thorough and thoughtful. It's good to see the kids out having fun.
Thank you. Something a little different from my normal stuff and it resulted in a great time with the family.

Is it inexpensive tho? The Hauncho is cheaper and at least had character
Can't say as I am a fan of the body, but a quiet transmission is a pretty good step in the right direction. Always a great video Greg.
I agree on those wheels, they'd match my 6.5 inch lifted Cherokee perfectly

love the body style. and the sound oh does it ever sound good
It does sound good, and I think better than a TRX4. TRX4 sounds a little gravelly.

On full turning lock does the tyre rub against the underneath link bar? Also are the electronics waterproof out of then box?
Nice suspension
hi great video what is the gear for the transmission do you have a link ?
Almost perfect, the only I don’t like is the decals on headlights and windshield it llooks cheap

Now we need a trx face off
Something about crawlers. Never had one but I think I might just get the gray one.
Get a TRX4.

Thanks! They had radios in their hands before they could walk. 😄
These are sweet but I get a feeling my group I go crawling with won’t be swapping there sports for a base camp any time soon
it would be cool if you could buy the 2-speed transmission for this.
Does this truck have locking diffs like trx4 sport?
I like them and debating on getting one they seem loud
They can be. Some people add a little extra grease in the transmission and axles to help damp the sound.
Cool man!😎🤙🏽🔥
What is the Pitch? Of transmission gears.
This may be a foolish question....but how did they get the slider shafts up so high.🤔
Hi,
Very grateful for you. What is the maximum speed on asphalt or concrete?
Maybe 5 miles hour. There’s probably a little pop up front though
Wierd flex by showing off the full gas tank but whatever. Great video and review!

HotBoxing with those grey windows. 1st thing I noticed😅
I think this is an awesome release. Wish it was a UMG tho
The only thing I don't like about this new truck is the fact that it comes with no Rock sliders!!! why wouldn't they include them??
Im not sure but i took mine off my trx kit. Most people dont run sliders anyway, they get in the way a lot imo
is this crawler good for advanced hobbyists too
Is it better than the trx4 sport?
looks pretty good.
Yup! A lot of fun.
Awesome video but for a crawler they sure dont crawl up the dirt or the rocks very well. Its a pass for me

Ugh, time for Axial to step up their body game, sticking to RC4WD
The one great thing about this body. You can abuse the heck out of it and not care. lol I still get bummed when Input scratches in my RC4WD bodies.
That body is truly awful! Come on Axial, you have competitors from China making toy grade RC cars that look better than this!
😂😂😂 Don’t worry they will have a $120 off coupon in a few months when the warehouse fills up.
if it came with a battery and a charger that would have been perfect

Haha, good to know kids are the same the world over. "Ya"
