Agree 100%. The lack of buttons is the HUGE drawback with the Atlas. I wanted it so bad but I tried to get use to the screen and could not. To much time looking at it while driving. No good. Otherwise it’s a home run. Why VW? WHY?
The Base SE without the Tech Package is such a good value. Can get one with AWD for roughly $42k and it has great standard features (Heated Seats/Steering Wheel, Ventilated Seats, Digital Dash, Wireless AA/Carplay).
Thanks for review. In my opinion - the most family friednly 3 rov on market. Childseat tilt - single the best thing for small kids. Atlas allows to put 5 childseats inside - 3 in the bench and still makes it easy to get into 3rd row. Trunk is still usable for daily. Only thing it is missing in hybrid power and being on sale in EU:)
I think this vehicle is good for those looking at a Palisade or Telluride because they all aren’t that reliable. But the designs and ergonomics of the VW is much better than the Palisade/Telluride.
Amazing how affordable for all that. Have you heard much about the problems with the dct in the new Santa Fe? One reviewer bought one and it failed at 27 miles. Total replacement. And, am reading about a few others with problems. Makes one a little nervous since it just came out.
I have 23’ last V6 yr , same as Audi Porsche motor but I say they have VW motor . Suspension a bit hard , but pulls good . Adjust to the performance settings to avoid fwd feel . Handles car seats etc good w 3 kids . More cargo room needed with 3 rd row use. I’m going to Suburban Duramax when the 25 release.
It doesn’t. I have an ‘18 Atlas 2.0T with FWD, base model. 85k miles and nothing has gone wrong. It’s actually quicker than the V6 and this is the first model year ever (before HP increase) we’re talking about here.
@@japanwatchconnection That’s not true in temperate climate areas. In these areas, temperature varies from day to day, and so do other factors such as humidity and your clothing. This makes people adjust the climate frequently so that the settings are best suited for these conditions that may have changed compared to the previous drive.
@@japanwatchconnection even then, physical buttons are still better. Physical buttons allow the clinate to be set faster than a combo of capacitive panel and baked-into-infotainment because when it's baked into the infotainment, you have to go into a menu in a menu in a menu, and rhat takes more time. Capacitive panels also take more time because unlike physical buttons, inputs might not register the first time. Headlight controls are positioned behind the steering wheel yet you have to crane your neck and look at what you are tapping since it's capacitive, so you can't use your sense of feel to set the right setting.
Sorry but you made a few mistake in your review. Atlas has USB in the last middle and front rows. Sirius cam does have a tuner just like FM AM radio tuners. And if you sweep down on the screen it gives us quick access to start/stop button. Sorry but maybe you need to study up before reviewing and posting.
@japanwatchconnection I don’t think you read my original comment of Volkswagen is not luxury just like a Toyota is not luxury just like a Chevy is not luxury there is no blur. It’s very black-and-white. Certain badges are non-luxury, and certain badges are luxury so simple I never once insinuated that I have to have any badge.
Buying a VW at this point feels like buying something from China off Alibaba. No matter how inexpensive it is, you feel like you're buying junk. (Whether true or not)
Absolutely not. That’s a total pile of garbage. It will need a new water pump before 30,000 miles. I can’t believe anybody even looks at purchasing one of these pieces of rubbish
Have to disagree with you. Only because I’ve been driving Atlas for a while now. Only issue was with sun roof in the 2021 model. Never water pump isssue. And I drive a lot.
@@joeljimenezz 2018 Volkswagen Atlas owner here. Besides the large number of recalls for the first model year, no issues that has prevented us from driving. Been very reliable for me and the family loves it. Honestly will be holding onto our SEL V6 for the foreseeable future. I would say though, we did just change our water pump. Water pumps are a wear item on Volkswagen/Audi group, and by 70-80k when that coolant leak shows itself, expect to be changing the water pump. Did ours for $350 at my local mechanic.

4:19 they’re actually 2 usb c on the side of the 3rd row panel
I have a 21 in white, get it last year, and I LOVE IT‼️💪💯💝🔥

I have the ‘23 SE tech V6. Great SUV. Great deals too. rarely marked up.
Finally an honest review on this SUV 👍💯
I love when Kirk takes the kiddos along for the ride while reviewing the vehicle!👍🏻
And the new rear lighting element is way more modern than before. A welcome update! Thanks VW.
This car looks good on your family. Poor screen menu system, but does it have voice command?
You'll be in the shop atleast once a month with that pos. Mine was brand new and something breaks or doesn't work all the time
Being a VW, long term reliability will be an issue. For me lease it, return it. not going to own it long term..
Does anyone know what the towing capacity is on the atlas?
Agreed! This not a vehicle to keep long term.

@@mrgurulittle7000 I had a palisade, loved it. Traded it for a GV80 when it came out..

How does it handle and accelerate compared to 21 CX-9 Sig?
I want one…except they probably won’t hold up well. But for those looking at a Palisade or Telluride, this VW is much better.
Genuinely curious, what makes you say that?
@@hazzardBecause the reliability isn’t up to the Japanese, but for value, this VW is a good alternative to those buying Hyundai Kias.

would be amazing with a Toyota V6 Hybrid engine 😅, thanks Kirk.
So VW promised to bring back buttons yet the HVAC and headlight controls got replaced by capacitive panels. Pass!
Once they go
They never come back
@@reddevil6585 the VW’s CEO should’ve never made that promise on LinkedIn

Depreciation on these is absolutely awful though. Saw a 2021 SE trim with sunroof and AWD for 24k the other day
Maybe it’s better to lease VW cars than buying but maintaining them as daily drivers my VW virtus 2023 isn’t fuel efficient car
Vw hasnt been the same since they started designing cars for the american market. They might as well be Chevrolet now.

Awesome
VW reliability will be an issue. Also 2 litre in such a big car isn't inspiring, looks pretty gutless. Not my pick sorry.
😳 I have the sunscreens, and a huge sun roof
I thought Audi is the luxury version of VW. never heard VW being referred to as luxury ?

Controversial opinion. SUVs shouldn't be family vehicles. Seeing little kids next to SUVs seems dangerous.
It's a little bit less ugly now
