  • Simplified detailed lecture on Angle of inclination,Coxa valga and Coxa vara of hip complex.Angle of inclination occurs in the frontal plane with an axis passing through the femoral head and neck with the longitudinal axis of femur.The normal angle of inclination of femur is about 125 degrees and can have a value ranging from 110-144 degree. In women angle of inclination is smaller than that of men mostly due to the wider pelvis and further there is individual variations between average values of angle of inclination.The angle of inclination changes across the lifespan for instance its 150 degree at birth.
    A pathological decrease in medial angulation of neck and shaft is known as Coxa Vara and an increase in the angulation is known as Coxa Valga. In coxa valga angle aof inclination is greater than 125 degree and it results in various changes in body like change in abductor muscle moment arm, decrease in trabecular system of femur,decrease stability of hip,predisposes to hip dislocation etc. At the same Coxa Vara increases stability of hip,improvement in congruence, increase moment of abductor muscles etc.

    I now understand why teachers play an important role in each student's life. The best example is me, I hated biomechanics because I didn't understand anything. But you Sir, the way you taught each and every concept with that huge smile on your face, we students understood those concepts clearly! You made us fall in love with this subject again, Thank You, Teacher!

    Nice explanation 👍 but maybe it would’ve been better if u had explained classes of levers, the abductor mechanism and shortening/lengthening of the lever arm using a diagram instead of just the bones..like explaining that mechanical advantage is the ratio of effort arm to resistance arm and all..I had actually studied mechanics of the hip the day before so I understand what you’re talking about, but if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t be able to understand much.

    • @TonysTutorial
      @TonysTutorial  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a patholgical increase in angle of inclination creates a longer limb. But in coxa valga and vara body has an adoptive pattern which makes the diffrence less pronounced.

    • @TonysTutorial
      @TonysTutorial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thats is in coxa valga its commonly seen that patient adopts hip abduction and is commonly accompained by genu vara.And coxa vara its often accompained by a position of addiction at hip along with genu valga.Thank you for the question
