    your words / voice soothed me. I'm almost at 3 weeks post fracture of 6 and 7 on my left side. Week two was very disappointing as it felt like I went backwards in recovery. But learned it was normal muscular pain post trauma of my fall. Muscle relaxers really helped. Had to ask for them. I desperately want to change my position in bed but have yet to roll on any side because I feel my fractured ribs slipping popping around as soon as I start. Gah I want to roll on a side so badly. thanks for this post.

      Thank you so much... I broke ribs 6 & 7 on the left from falling also... it's been 12 days and I feel like I'm not healing... it good to know it's part of the process and brighter days are ahead...

      Hang in there. Seek medical attention if continuing to not improve m. Hoping you start to get some progress soon. Recovery can be up or down but generally trends upwards. If not, follow up is warranted. -Aleks

    How about using red light therapy? That helped my knee injury last year. Not sure about broken ribs.

      I’m not too familiar with its role on healing fractures. It’s important to know before you purchase these products that our body has a tremendous ability to heal and most rib fractures and other fractures (in the absence of medical history such as smoking, diabetes, osteoporosis, etc) in due time. Seek the services of a health care provider if symptoms aren’t getting better and or if you have other symptoms associated with the injury. -Aleks

    I had spasms with sharp stabbing in my back. I broke three ribs 4,five and six my pain medication. My doctor put me on is not helping. They also put me on a muscle relaxer spasms have some degree subsided but the pain is a 20. I’m doing everything I’m supposed to be doing. I’m icing. I’m getting around, not staying in bed using pillow when coughing seems to help!

    Very concise! Thanks! Great to know. Its been a week since I tackled a parking pillar with my lowest left rib. Almost better. Couldve been worse. The pain and constant throbbing was obviously annoying and limiting but the psychological effects were what hurt the most.... the realization that I've gotten old and cant take a bodyshot!!!! ?? 😢😂 peace

    I’m in awful pain, trying to do light breathing, but X-ray found no broken ribs, but I get terrible spasms and now they’re longer and stronger and I absolutely fear them. I can’t even lay on bed let alone get up from my favorite chair. The spasms last night were like every 5 min and very Styron and restrictive. Should I go to emergency and get an MRI?

    • @aleks_physio

      Hi Suzy, unfortunate to hear. Hang in there. What triggered the onset of these symptoms? A fall? If you’re concerned and it hasn’t gotten better since onset (when was onset by the way?), you can’t go wrong by seeking medical attention and they can determine whether any further investigation or intervention is warranted. Keep me posted. -Aleks

      Hi Dr Alex-!it’s been 9
      Days now since my fall into a table ( crazy how it happened) pain is less but very much still alive. I still have pain trying to get out of chair and can only lay on back or rt side. I try to go slow, walking to my neighbors and back, but I hurt a lot when I get back. I don’t understand how I gained 10 pounds rt after the injury. Is there a water weight component that is making my body hod water? I just hope I can bed over and get dressed easier by Xmas ( 4weeks away)

      @aleks_physio  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Suzy, glad to hear you’ve made some improvement. Weight gain I’m not too sure if it happened right away. Normally I would say if you’re not as active due to pain then that can result in weight gain, but might be something else going on that I wouldn’t be aware of. Please follow up as needed with GP and continue to take day by day and monitor for symptoms. Hopefully you will notice considerable improvement by Christmas too! 🎄 Cheers, Aleks

    Hi. My old man had currently rib fractured 10 .Does heating pad can helps to elevate the pain or ice pack? How long does it takes to heal ?

    • @aleks_physio
      @aleks_physio  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Heating can help after the initial injury (generally not recommended in the early stages) to help with pain control and increase blood flow. Ice generally in the first few days to help with pain and if there’s any swelling to help control. Healing generally 6-12 weeks. Depends on health, amount of ribs broken, type of fracture, other injuries sustained etc. remember pain can continue even after actual healing has taken place. Follow up with GP as needed. Tell him I wish him a healthy and safe recovery. Not medical advice. -Aleks

    How long does a rib bruise take to heal? Or at least be less painful.

    • @aleks_physio
      @aleks_physio  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Several days to up to 3 weeks. Generally less time than a fracture but it really does depend on the person, magnitude of injury, other injuries, other health issues that can affect healing. Best to take it day by day and follow up with medical provider as needed. -Aleks

    I put all my weight on my right rib as I was leaning over a car seat and I heard a “snap”
    Not much pain when breathing or moving but very painful when lying on my back or when I sit, leaning heavily on my back.
    I want to avoid going to the Dr. Are there home remedies?

    • @aleks_physio
      @aleks_physio  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It would be difficult to know without doing a full exam. Most rib fractures don’t require surgical intervention anyways and heal with time. However a fracture vs sprain/strain will have different healing times. Be vary if any other concerning symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, excruciating pain, exquisite tenderness, nausea/vomiting, etc. Otherwise, follow up with GP if concerned. Remember these videos are education based only not medical advice. Wishing a quick recovery to you! -Aleks

    If I’ve fractured a rib and it’s not 100% aligned, could it heal without needing surgery? Or do they normally have to be fully aligned to heal properly?

    • @aleks_physio
      @aleks_physio  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It can heal it just might not heal in the appropriate alignment called a non-union or a malunion where it just stops healing. This doesn’t necessarily mean you need surgery. Just depends on different factors. Chat with your GP and follow up X-ray as needed. Not medical advice. -Aleks

    Will a hot tub help? Or any kind of heat/cold therapy?

    • @aleks_physio
      @aleks_physio  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It won’t expedite healing but may help from a pain management perspective. Generally cold can help in the early days (watching out for freeze burns and not applying directly to skin), whereas heat can help later to help if there is stiffness and promoting blood flow. Follow up with GP. -Aleks

    Hi dr. Im new here. I got my ribs fractured i think, my hands slide in rolling chair and the arm rest hit my ribs and it pains for almost a week now. I did 1st aide hot compress but realized after 3 days that it should be cold compress 1st 48hrs then hot compress.Tilll now its painful but only if i do some works that needs my hands. Do i need to continue cold and hot compress? How long will i used to do that doctor. Thanks for your answer po.😊

    • @aleks_physio
      @aleks_physio  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi Rosetating6125, aweek is still quite early. If you are concerned or have other symptoms (nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, bloody stool, dizziness, etc), then seek medical care. If it’s primarily pain that appears to be improving; then generally it’s expected that it should continue to improve relatively. Even if there was a small fracture in one rib, the treatment regimen would be similar to if it was bruised. So continue managing as able (hot is generally recommended after the initial couple days to help with blood flow and healing where cold generally preferred earlier to help control swelling and more for pain control. Find what works best for you or seek out your health care provider if you are not sure. Heat vs ice also depends on personal preference based on tolerance. Keep me posted on the recovery. All the best! -Aleks
