I’ve been anticipating this video for so long! No joke, I was wondering when Ron would make a Top 20 Best Gen 9 Music video just last night! I’m so happy he extended it to Top 25 with many honorable mentions cause there’s just so many amazing tracks in Gen 9! My favorite tracks for this Gen have got to be the Area Zero and Area Zero underdepths, Battle AI, Battle Terapagos, South Province, West Province Riding, Kitakami, both of Kieran’s battle themes, Blueberry Academy, Coastal Biome, Battle Possessed Trainer, Battle Pecharunt, and so many more! That’s not even in order cause I can’t figure out which ones I like more! Scarlet and Violet and their DLC’s are just so amazing with top tier music and story. If the games weren’t held back by their technical and visual problems, they would be the best games in the franchise!
I know you don’t do as many of these ranking videos as you used to, but I always look forward to your generation music rankings. You can somehow put into words what these songs make you feel and it’s so good! You did another amazing job!
I know it wasn't one of the Pokemon themes, but when they played "Celestial" over the credits it was the first time I'd heard it and I thought it perfectly sum up the end of the game and brought a tear to my eye. Which has never happened in a Pokemon game before.
Woah Woah Woah!!! Kieran's first two themes are abysmal?? I think that the first one is so fun and catchy, the second feels so weak after listening to his final champion theme but it was still good at the time.
Idk, I think Xenoblade is quite up there. Maybe even better. But I hear you; Pokemon does have a lot of good ones. Though, the only ones I really can recognize by name are gen 1... especially Lavender town, the battle theme, and the route 1 theme lol Oh I guess also Driftveil city as well.
@@TheTheisson Honestly, I don't like that much of its soundtrack except Tropical Resort, Lights, Camera, Action and the entire Sonic Unleashed soundtrack.
i don’t know if there’s a single moment in main series pokemon with quite as much sheer sauce as the ai professor dropping a god damn master ball down from on high as the battle theme starts playing
I personally like Kieran's 2nd theme, because it shows that he's starting to go from battling for fun to battling to win. BUT it still shows that a part of him still loves battling for fun, but his obsession with winning is gradually becoming more serious.
@@puparomi I used to do it because I played pokemon on the go, in the car, in school etc. And because the red HP sound was annoying (in FireRed it went on forever as log as your pokemon life was in red). Now on the switch I play with sounds on (have only played Sword so far)
I’m kinda sad how you keep insulting Kieran’s battle themes. Specifically, the first theme you encounter with him is my favorite; it just sounds like you’re having a good time, and embodies how Kieran is happy to battle you. Edit: I won’t disagree with his Champion theme slapping though😅

Thank you for this. The technical failures of the game stopped me from thoroughly enjoying it. I fought with myself who was on the brink of quitting the game, just to finish it. If not for the performance, this would have been the best pokemon experience. I’m so glad I finished the base game story but I didn’t have it in me to get the DLC. The story is peak. The maturity is on another level. It is as grand as what Gen 5 aimed for, but better because it was more relatable and it felt more real. I’m so glad I got to experience the story. It is the best story experience the franchise has given us. Yes, the franchise, including the series anime and movies. This game tops them all. It has been a while since I touched my Scarlet, so watching this brought back a lot of emotions. Yes, I was crying during Nemona’s themes; crying during Arven’s theme; CRYING during the three Team Star themes; and bawling during the number one theme. Thank you for this, fellow game music lover.
If you love good story in Pokemon games and you haven't already tried it, you should play a Mystery Dungeon game. In particular, I'd recommend Explorers of Sky. On top of having a story that puts mainline Pokemon games to shame (including Scarlet and Violet) it also has what might be the best soundtrack of any Pokemon game whatsoever! Insane video, so glad u make these. Seems no other content creator cares for the music but I believe u left out the most iconic song of all of Gen 9. It's titled "Exploring Paldea on foot" and I believe it will be the song we all remember most besides Area Zero. There's something so soothing and legendary about just chilling anywhere in Paldea and hearing this banger.
Dude, the music videos made me subscribe to your channel, and they will forever be my favorite experiences on your channel. I waited so long for this, and I'm so glad is finally here. Thank you Ron.
"You make me feel like my troubled heart is a million miles away" is honestly a wonderfully poignant line, and fitting for the emotion and nostalgia we can carry for Pokemon as a series The rest of the song can be pretty generic, but it does match the emotion of the story's ending at least
Another masterpiece of a video! I have to say I sincerely adore your music tier lists, it’s one of my greatest pleasures to just sit and vibe to some of my favorite songs while getting an in-depth, nuanced, and passionate analysis of the track. I love that someone appreciates the instrumental complexity and beauty of Pokémon themes just as much as I do, and I love it when you point out ideas and motifs I hadn’t even considered that are embedded deep within the story and themes. I’m glad that you waited for the dlcs to get a full scope of the SV story and music, and it culminated in one of my favorite videos so it’s definitely worth the wait. The tier list encapsulated my favorite parts of Paldea, and it was truly a joy to go back through with a fellow music superfan. Keep up the amazing work!!! :)
Thank you for making this video: I sincerely loved the Paldean games for their music. I felt that the sound in these games was brilliant and done so well. I love how every theme runs into and blends with the next one as you travel around organically, and I especially love the little touch that the sounds get muted when you splash into the water, as if you are listening under water.
I love and appreciate what you have to say about music. As a visually impaired person music is the best way for me to understand action packed moments in games. I love how you uses a neutral sound effect to “cleanse the pallet “ so to say between each song. Where can I listen to these song outside the game?
On my first playthrough, I played through all of the main story Area Zero with headphones in, mostly cause I didn't wanna wake my partner and I am SO glad I did. Battle Turo/Sada is my FAVORITE song from the entire franchise. I would love to experience it for the first time all over again. I can't explain how this made me feel upon hearing it for the first time.
I think this generation has hands doen the best collection of battle music in the series thanks in part to Toby Fox’s involvement. Surprised you ommitted the Kieran & Terapagos battle theme but it’s similar to Terapagos solo theme so close enough
My favorite theme is probably the BB League Elite Four because of how fast it is while showcasing the strength of these newcomers, but I LOVE that Area Zero and Team Star were so high on the list; they really took the story home. One honorable mention no one seems to talk about is the Director Clavell battle theme during the Starfall Street storyline. It really conveys how desperate he is to right the wrongs of the previously ignorant academy staff and take on the suffering of Team Star without having anymore children as casualties of heavy emotional and mental burdens. And defeating you is a sad but necessary step to protect you in his eyes.
9:32 also its bass feels obligatory rather than an organic part of the music. I feel like bass was thrown into a few SV tracks bc GAME FREAK went on TH-cam and learned we like groovy base
27:36 Is probably the most played song in VGC battles. If you don't do VGC I understand missing this, but people in VGC recognize this song as one of the greats.
No one ever talks about it but I just love Kierans first theme, not the champion one. It's just so upbeat and catchy with a theme of hope and innocence but no one ever talks about it!!
Yea I agree with you about the gym leader music. I feel like the regular gym music sounds more like goofy chase music out of an old movie than serious battle music
As someone who focuses on the music as a whole and not just the melody, Battle! Champion Kieran is my favorite theme, with Battle! Pecharunt and Battle! Terapagos close behind. Team Star Grunt, Team Star Boss, Champion Nemona, and a few others are also really good.
TEAM STAR NUMBER 7 SLOT!!! AS IT DESERVES. It is, genuinely, so good. When I first heard it I just stopped so me and my brother (who was already past this point but wasn't paying attention to the music) could listen to it. It is just so good that I still can't even believe that it is just a grunt battle theme, it sounds like a team admin or even a boss. One of my personal favorites. And I feel like no one talks about it cause the Team Star Boss and Cassiopeia themes overshadow it. That and you don't hear it too often.
27:38 always makes me think of Sonic Forces before anything else. Just feels like it'd fit perfectly in a Sonic game to me. One of my fave tracks too! Nothing can top the number 1 pick tho. I get just as emotional, its a beautiful piece. Great work on this video!
Actually the gym leader theme is my favorite of the series mostly because I love funky jazz and it’s the only dynamic one. Hard agree on Area Zero in general though it’s amazing.
I absolutely love these videos of yours! Your top Sun/Moon tracks video was amazing and I loved this one as well, such great picks + I love seeing your reasoning behind each one. Hard agree on the top picks as well - this game has such a wonderful soundtrack! Can't wait to see (hear?) what Pokémon OSTs have in store for the future!
Couldn't agree more with what you said about your top 7 pick. This theme is probably one of the best grunt themes we ever got but in game the fights are so short that the good parts never play even for a slow player. I went through the OST after my playthrough and was very surprised how much of a banger i missed. Edit: Also may I ask: What is it about the Clavell Battle Theme that it didn't make your list not even in the honorable mentions? I thought that to be a pretty nice theme that also fits his character pretty vell.
Could you explain why you think Kieran's original battle themes are "abysmal"? I feel like that's an incredibly extreme word for songs that really don't have anything wrong with them. Yeah they're not nearly as epic as his champion theme but I find them to be actually really good and certainly inoffensive, especially his normal battle theme which is quite fun to listen to. All in all though, aside from that, this was a FANTASTIC list and you managed to hit the nail on the head with nearly all of these picks.
As much as I love your choices in this ranking, the Crystal Pool theme is so underrated. I first heard it during the Teal Mask story progression. It honestly left me speechless once I got to the top of Oni Mountain. What I love about it is how majestic it sounds, especially during the night in-game when the Tera Crystals glow in the water. But what brings it all together for me is the Area Zero choir and how you can bring Terapagos here in the post-game for a special cutscene.
I swear the only reason I ended up forgetting the team star grunt theme was infrequency, but the minute it came on I was humming note for not. It's spot is highly warranted
Did anyone else hear parts of Jevil's theme from Deltarune in certain sections of the boss theme for the AI Professor? listen to both back-to-back, they sound similar. maybe its just because Toby Fox made the AI Professor theme and Deltarune, but idk. Maybe i'm crazy
i have lost track of how many times i have watched ur older top songs videos, have always been a favourite of mine, so thx for bringing these back. hope for a legends arceus soon, if possible❤
Terapagos' battle theme is my personal favorite and I noticed that the intro vocals at about 47:16 are different from the ones that are being uploaded on youtube. I have only played the DLC once, do you know why that is?
I wish the game wasn't so buggy, because this music genuinely slaps :O I'm just hoping whatever Nintendo's next system is, assuming it'll be backwards compatible, that it has the processing power to make sure S&V are at their best...
The entirety of the Area Zero suite includes this singular part (I think.) in all of Area Zero, you may hear something: “KRIS! WHERE THE HECK ARE WE?” Context: The Area Zero Wild Battle has the Susie motif, I am not insane I swear, there’s a video showing the proof
I currently replaying through Violet as we speak. For the past couple of games, it hasn’t taken much for me to get the urge to get back to playing, but there’s just something about even a snippet of the music that makes it impossible for me to resist. There are so many other games that I want to get around to playing and finishing, but the Pokémon games just have a death grip on me, and I love it.
I could easilly imagine Nemona's final battle theme making a great track for a Sonic level, like could easilly picture Sonic running through Mezagoza's streets at blistering speeds with it blaring in the background
Team Star grunt theme is my favourite song from all of Pokemon. I just did nothing for like 10 minutes straight while fighting grunts so I could listen to the theme.
I would love if you would one day make a video like this on the OST of Pokemon Master EX! It manages to have an incredible soundtrack, just for a mobile gacha game!
We all know which is No. 1 without looking at all. The Area Zero set list as No. 2 is not a surprise at all. Though i may switch No. 5 and 6. Also, while I never appreciated Kieran's battle themes in Teal Mask, it was until hearing his Champion battle theme (the guitar and violin parts are what made it a banger) makes me feel that it should be in the Top 10 list considering how hard they went on it.
Year after year, they still manage to create fire OSTs. It's one thing nearly all Pokémon fans can agree on
and sonic fans with sonic
Yeah especially bringing in Toby Fox like dude Pokemon ost is good enough without him so Gen 8 and 9 are just transcendent
was beginning to worry cassiopeia wasn’t gonna be here hahahaha
fun fact: the final boss theme was made by toby fox, and is a sudo-remaster/remake of a song he made for the homestuck ost!
He can’t keep getting away with this 😭
That's insane cause Toby Fox is one of my favorite artists
Feel like you can say that about a lot of his stuff lol
Of fucking course he did I keep forgetting this man is a professional
It's insane he's actually a professional and not just haha funny undertale guy
the Area Zero theme has slowly become my absolute favorite Pokemon theme, it genuinely left me in awe when I was listening to it upon entering Area Zero the first time. those chord progressions are unreal.

I've been waiting for so long, but it will be worth it
28:16 my first time fighting a tram star grunt i got to this part and i legitimately listened to the song for like 10 minutes before i continued
Yay, I’ve been waiting for this video since the games came out! And I’m so happy that my top two favorite themes are yours too! 😁
OMG YES, I was waiting for this video!!
I never knew Toby Fox made some of the music for this game! 6:10
Yes! I have been waiting for this!
22:06 every rival is well handled in their own way
Somehow including both hop and hau.
@@NITTE-MITTEYcan’t tell if ur being sarcastic but I agree they are
Team Star and Penny's themes are just on a whole other level.
I swear the only reason I ended up forgetting the team star grunt theme was infrequency, but the minute it came on I was humming note for not. It's spot is highly warranted
Fantastic Video as always. Thank you for that :)
Still love that Giacomo could very well have made Penny's battle theme too.
I feel you because i heard a snippet from SAVE The World, the Undertale final boss theme, in the AI Professor theme. That's Toby Fox for you
i have lost track of how many times i have watched ur older top songs videos, have always been a favourite of mine, so thx for bringing these back. hope for a legends arceus soon, if possible❤
The Zero Lab battle theme with Lyrics is just....
Amazing
not only was the indigo disk myt favoirate offical pokemon experience in years it also has banger tunes
Yup, vs turo/sada is just goated
Terapagos' battle theme is my personal favorite and I noticed that the intro vocals at about 47:16 are different from the ones that are being uploaded on youtube.
I have only played the DLC once, do you know why that is?
I wish the game wasn't so buggy, because this music genuinely slaps :O I'm just hoping whatever Nintendo's next system is, assuming it'll be backwards compatible, that it has the processing power to make sure S&V are at their best...
The entirety of the Area Zero suite includes this singular part (I think.) in all of Area Zero, you may hear something:
“KRIS! WHERE THE HECK ARE WE?”
Context:
The Area Zero Wild Battle has the Susie motif, I am not insane I swear, there’s a video showing the proof
That's how I'm feeling right now omg. I'm replaying it because of wanting to enjoy the music again
Can't believe Wild Battle! Kitakami wasn't included in this list.
Team star boss themes is akin to bravely default bosses themes and amazing
I could easilly imagine Nemona's final battle theme making a great track for a Sonic level, like could easilly picture Sonic running through Mezagoza's streets at blistering speeds with it blaring in the background
“If you think the Academy Battle Theme is bad, I’m coming for you”
Guess I need to lock my doors 😅
Jumpscare
The guitar part in the Kieran champion theme sounds like something X Japan could've put out. Interesting.
My first thought when i heard the "Battle! - Arven" music was Paper Mario for some reason lol
Pokémon lietmotifs are my favorite things and this game goes so hard into them i love it so much
Always love these vids!
The Scarlet/Violet soundtrack is my favorite of all of Pokémon
So much so that I sorta based my DnD character around it
Seeing this upload made my day!
