Chris Stapleton stands alone in mainstream country. You really gotta get in the weeds to find more singers that can even attempt to put on the show he does.
This song was originally done by David Allen Coe, then by George Jones. David Allen Coe was one of the most under rated country artist from the 70s till jis death a few years back. Chris is a great talent and has a unique style and bluesy sound. Vocals spot on.
Well, David Allen Coe would be very surprised to find out he was dead. He’s not doing many shows at 82 but he’s still doing a few. Now George Jones, The Possum, is dead and buried in Nashville, along with several other singers who his family has allowed to be buried in the section of the cemetery he bought just for the purpose of having free places for down on their luck artists. DAC is one of the original 100% outlaws in country music. He’s mellowed as he’s gotten older but still has a hell raiser’s heart. I had the chance to see and meet him a couple times and he’s still a good see, even if he’s taking it much easier these days. On the other hand, you don’t have to take your life in your hands with the cowboys and the bikers and the hippies wondering if they’d get out of there alive.
It still amazes me that people still have heard this song and of Chris before, he is just the best country singer going around and has been for some time.
I've seen Sometimes I Cry being mentioned, definitely a must see, I'm adding Chris in a duet with Justin Timberlake, a mashup of Tennessee Whiskey and Justin's I Can't Drink You Away.

This is exceptional country bar band blues. The original stuck to a traditional country 4 beat with a more traditional I-IV-V chord structure. Until this version, the George Jones version was the most well known.

From, Elvis, Screamin J Hawkins, Etta James, Dina Washington, Whitney Houston, Adele and the likes. She started recording in studios when she was only 6 years old, won Norway's Got Talen at 7 years old. Today at only 16, in my opinion one of the best, most versatile female vocalists of our time.
