Привет! Раньше работал и дизайнером, и фотографом, увлекаюсь 3д дизайном (збраш, 3д макс), рисование. Одна область делает шире другую. Надо заниматься всем, чтобы не перегорать и оставаться в потоке. По себе знаю, что если недели две ничего не делать - месяца 2 раскачиваешься.

I have a question. for a school assignment I have to trace the MailChimp logo (word not the monkey) in Illustrator. What's the best technique to do so? Di I use strokes or fills?

Hi, Cynthia! Don’t complicate:) everything is very simple.
1. Try to Object - Image trace. You’ll see Image trace setup icon. Click on it and play with settings to get needed result. Then right click, ungroup and delete all unnecessary.
If there will be too many points or it will be rough, try Object - Path - Simplify. Play with settings.
2. If you still want pen tool in this case, then work with thin outline. Then you’ll be able to swap fill and stroke and get filled letters. Just don’t forget to close path to do this :)
Everything’s clear? I think first method will work for you very good. You can also edit it with pen tool after this if needed.

Thanks for the tutorial. It is very detailed. However when I open the sketch file it shows a white rectangle on top of my page. Only the area that is in that small rectangle is white. the rest of the sketch beneath is gray. I retried openning it and doing it step by step as you said but it is still the same. It stays there when i click on the eye icon next to my layers. I know it is probably something silly but would appreciate any tips. Thanks again

I am stuck at 2:28. When I hold Alt, I'm not getting the round circle handles to drag; instead I'm getting red lines that only show me intersection points. My icon looks like a skinnier V, not like yours. I tried clicking on the standard and direct selection tools to see if I could get either one of those to work, but neither of them is bringing up the handles. I'm pretty new at Illustrator - I've only been learning it for about a month.
