"it's fine, im a farm boy" definitely needs to be a shirt. He has the best quotes around farm births "locked and loaded" 😂❤️
I agree!!
YES!...Definitely a T-shirt!
He also gave us, "Tomatoes are better than dinner". He's so cool!
💙💚💙💚💙 oh Ben farm boy. you always make me smile! thx
Definitely! A long sleeve T-shirt and please do the same line for a farm girl.
It is determination not just desire that U achieve success. Glad to see things through & sorted them out. Blessing dear lady. ❤️
“Its fine, I’m a farm boy” that’s a great kid!
Yes! I love that!
Was that not just the BEST comment?! Gotta love a farm kid ❤️
Rethink it...
You are a serial sourdough starter..
@@ajudylee you win the internet lol!
As someone who owns their own 100% naturally leavened bakery, I’d just like to share that sourdough really will find your weaknesses and test them. I’m terrible at failing but had to embrace colossal failures in order to get my bread to where it is. Fungi are so intelligent in ways we can’t comprehend and it’s almost like they demand growth from you as the price for their own growth! They thrive on reciprocity 😆
And I’d like to give a friendly reminder that you have lots of experience cultivating healthy bacteria and fungi; you just usually do it in the medium of soil 😉
God bless and I hope you always have the courage to keep trying; not in spite of your failures but because of them- because repeated failure can often signal us to an area with tremendous potential for growth 💚
Megan, such good information, advice and encouragement!
Creative starters see things that need to be done and do them immediately. When there are so many things that need to be done, often they fall into bed at night and the eyes fly open as something was forgotten. They have ability to adapt. Disciplined doers often do not see what is around them as they are working on their scheduled tasks. They often miss opportunities to interact with their children and times to minister to others. For every character strength there is the flip side. There is real joy in learning to do something that may not necessarily be in your wheelhouse.
I am one of the people who needed to hear this.. 😢
I just broke full blown tears right now. Thank you Jess I needed to hear this so much.. I have been feeling so down on myself lately and I know I'm just defeating myself . I needed this virtual hug.
🌖BlessedBe
Blessed be 🕯 May your light never dim.
BIG HUGS!!! You are not alone!
Thanks y'all..💚
Sweetest Heart you are never alone! The loneliest place in the world for me is in my own head so I never go in there alone! God is always with me. May He always be with you too! He loves you very very much!
I cried too. I hear you sister. We are not alone.
I went to a program years ago that had a phrase that stuck with me. "Legacy is built on every decision you make!" Your legacy is never giving up😘
Absolutely beautiful. I love this 🥰
"That's fine, I'm a farm boy." I DIE.
I was going to inherit my Mom's wedding ring, but she was in a nursing home and it was stolen two days before she died. I grieved over this situation for a year and then realized I could create a new story so I bought a necklace that I could wear to remind me of her. The ring wasn't the story, it was that it could remind me of her. Rewrite your story girl! You can do it!
This is beautiful! ❤

Put Ben in charge of "the keeping of the sourdough" kids that age forget NOTHING like that-- fifty times a day. No more forgetting. . :)
Jackie....LOL...you are so right!
Excellent suggestion.
Look at Elliot Homestead, she has worked it out to only feed when she bakes bread.
What you are doing is called “task bundling”. It’s a technique used by psychologists to help people create new habits… you bundle something you don’t like with a habit you already have or that you do like, until the thing you don’t like becomes a habit, or becomes natural. It’s a fantastic technique. I applaud your attitude. It’s inspiring.
Fascinating!

Teach Jack to take care of the sourdough. Once teenagers learn that these skills create food that they can be creative with it instills a real sense of pride in them. You have amazing children, each one is inquisitive and creative and funny and smart in their own way. It’s a pleasure watching not just your farm and garden blossom but your incredible children too!❤️

The Elliot homestead uses eincorn. And does a dry sourdough starter. I've tried several methods and hers was the best I've attempted.
I was the same, killing them, before I used her method of dry sourdough starter. Now I can keep it forever, abuse it even, and it always comes to life.
Same! I keep my dry starter in a Tupperware with Saran Wrap pushed against it and it stays fresh.
just came to comments to make the same suggestion, I am in the process of converting my wet starters (one white flour the other rye) to dry ones
@@橋本環奈-b4r 👍
The link to her most recent sourdough video, where she discusses (among other things) how to transition a regular wet starter to the "dry" starter is here: th-cam.com/video/AlLR7L7GAmQ/w-d-xo.html
There's also a certain balance between abilities and wants. My neurodivergency loves learning new things and I want to do ALL of the things. However, I must remember that I am one person with a limited amount of time. I know there are others out there who are trying to take on the world as well because they want to be able to do everything, but there is no measure of want to do, tool, or combination of tools that will allow for someone to do everything. Sometimes you have to look at all of your projects going on and ask yourself which one would you sacrifice to do the new one.
so true
Yesssss so hard to limit myself lol
So many projects...
Jess for sure has ADHD, right? My neurodivergent brain senses it sometimes lol.

And, once again, Holy Spirit sends you to speak just the words I need to hear at just the moment I need to hear them. Thank you for your obedience & for being such an encouragement!
It was your channel that made me believe I might be good at gardening one day, so this my chance to give back: You can keep sourdough starter in the fridge and feed it once a week, or freeze or dehydrate it and feed/bake even less frequently. Just dehydrate some of it when things are going well, and then wake it up when the fresh one inevitably dies. I am the most neglectful kind of sourdough/plant owner, which is a lot about me having ADHD, but also just how I am. The "kind of person I want to be" is a very big thing for ADHD-ers.
I just never get tired of Ben..he is soooo sweet. " It's ok, I am a farm boy "...I love it.
" Its fine I'm a farm boy" that boy melts my heart.
I love Benny! He has the biggest heart and is so funny! “That’s fine I am a farmboy” does need to be on a shirt. Xxxl for me please
Don’t feel bad, my grandmother killed the starter her husbands family brought over from Ireland.
Oh no
😅
😬 😲😅
You go Jessica! I started my own sourdough starter this summer. There was a lot of trial and error however when I finally had success it was a great feeling. I am 66 years of age and I’ll be the Nanny that begins our sourdough bread making tradition. When I need a break I feed my starter once a week and place it in the refrigerator ❤️
Yes, Benny, you are a farm boy and you make my heart glad! ❤
Omg! Sweet Benjamin!
“ it’s fine I’m a farm boy!” In the sweetest voice ever. Be still my heart
Of course it happens while you are out of town 😆😆😆
One of the posters I always hung in my classroom said ,”You only fail if you don’t try.” I know you’ve got this, Jess, but as others have suggested, put Ben in charge of reminding you. I have a feeling your sweet farm boy won’t let you forget.
Hi, my name is Jeff and I approve of this message lol. Great attitude Ben and Jess, your sourdough will rise again 🤗
I LOVE BENJAMIN!!! "I'm holding the tiny one, he loves me"! Adorable piggies, but a way more adorable little boy! Thank you so much for this. It brought back memories of when I was young and we had baby pigs. My heart is melting. God Bless You ALL!!!
The eyes of a child. How awesome it is to witness Ben's first seeing the piglets. ❤️
Keep in mind that water will react to our thoughts. Give your starter a boost by telling it how much you like it and how successful you both are. Best wishes 🌸
Can you talk a little more about your comment that water will react to our thoughts? That's so intriguing to me. I believe everything works together in ways we don't understand. I would love to hear more...
@@gaylekerr9826 Dr Masaru Emoto's Experiment in Gratitude th-cam.com/video/SDNhH8deZPg/w-d-xo.html
I've watched many videos on this. Think about it. Is it any wonder why we have blessed or holy water? Since living beings, whether plant or animal, are made up of around 70% water, do you think there's a reason why we should give thanks and show gratitude before each meal? I believe it actually affects the quality of our food. I feel people knew this thousands of years ago, we, as a culture, have forgotten more than we aver knew. It's time to relearn the basics.
I just love that comment!!! "Gosh, plants are so cool!" That made me smile deep in my heart and laugh at the same time!!!
Goodness Jess, you made me cry. Through my 71 years, I’ve killed my share of plants for sure. I do have a begonia plant that was my grandmother’s, so it’s at least 52 years old. I drag it into the garage when it freezes here in Texas. What made me cry was, I come from a long line of beautiful seamstresses, and when I sew, well I usually have to rip out several times. Two years ago I saw a video for a jellyroll quilt. It looked pretty simple but being so slow and extremely distracted by other things, I’m just now trying to complete them. I have been feeling so sad that I can’t sew like my mother, so when I heard your encouragement today, I thought, Lord, help me to finish these quilts. I can do it. They won’t be perfect, but they will be finished. You are a precious treasure. I so love watching y’all’s channel. It does bless me!❤️✝️🌹🍁🍂
I named my starter, therefore I remember to feed and take care of Ralph. I would let Ralph chill in the fridge when I was out of town for longer than a week and he did well. I had it for six years before I passed it on to someone else. Good luck Jess. You can do it.
Ours is experiment 626! Like stitch from the Disney movies!
Great idea. Perhaps Ben could choose a name.
I think the baby pig peed on you. That’s ok. I’m a farm boy. All your family/subscribers all over the world just smiled and giggled. Thank you Ben for being you. 💗💗
Ben is so fun watching w the little piggies. He's a true farmer. He was graced as a parent and has a great attitude. The pigs are so cute!!
Little bacon seeds! 🥰
Bacon seeds? 😂 Omg, not heard that one before lol
How precious. Your little guy is so precious. He is very sweet like his momma and daddy. Your kids are all very sweet. What a precious day.
I love your pep talks! When I'm putting myself down I try and stop and remember: if you wouldn't say it someone else, don't say it to yourself either. Thank you for that reminder today!
Also, Farmhouse on Boone has GREAT sourdough info and recipes!
Yes! And the Elliot Homestead!! She has a recipe for a dry sourdough starter! It looks like something I can handle. I love sourdough. I have very romantic lovely dreams of warm bread scents wafting through the house along with delicious soup. And a roast in the oven. But I have to go now as I see the pizza delivery dude pulling into the drive…. 😂😂😂. But a Chicago gal can dream 😴
I have learned so much from Farmhouse on Boone channel. All of her sour dough instructions and recipes are so well explained and videoed. I was a complete novice to all things sour dough, I had no idea what sour dough even was. I thought it was bread with vinegar added, lol!
@@bigkranchandkittyspa2425 yes and she uses einkorn! I have many romantic dreams about being a homesteader but I think it's going to take some time for me to get there since I have 2 little kids and work a full time teaching job...but a girl can dream and watch all the youtube videos!
@@lauraklein6405 I love her videos too! She's great at instructions and her kitchen is a dream to look at 😍
@@audreymunoz3562 lol. You have your hands full! Bless you! And keep on dreaming on!
Awwwww they are soooo sweet!! I couldn't help but smile when Ben wanted another Jeff lol. My own son, Caleb, loves to name everything Jeff too!
As a Jeff, I approve 😁
Would recommend putting the sourdough starter in the fridge once it's fully ready, means you don't need to feed it as often! And then when you need to make bread take it out about 12 hours before and feed it. I take it out to make stuff and feed about once or twice a week. Although if you're going to be making a lot of bread it makes more sense to leave it out the fridge.
Ben is such a sweetheart! "Its fine, Im a farm boy" got me good!
I’m 1 minute in and the part where Ben said he wanted to name one of the piglets “Leyla” just surprised me and made me smile because my name is Leyla 😊 It’s funny hearing your favorite people on TH-cam say your name 😅 Love you all from Houston, TX❤️
Ben has my entire heart being a farm boy ❤️❤️
He said it’s fine I’m a far boy! So sweet!
My aunt NEVER failed with her bread. She made the rest of us look and feel bad. She was a perfectionist and always was in every way!
Don’t worry about the contents because with this cow, she will remind you! You will be home and NOW you will do it!
I remember seeing a video from homesteader family called weed'em & reep. It's a young family in AZ. She has a fool proof easy sourdough recipie. Cute little piggies. Ben is such a charmer boy. I think he will be a farmer some day. Nancy from nebraska
You are SOOOO the "kind of person" who makes sourdough every day. You got this!
I bought a dehydrated sourdough starter from Homestead and Chill two years ago and it has done really well. I keep it in the fridge and feed it like once a week. I rarely make bread due to time-and maybe laziness, lol. But I have used it like Farmhouse on Boone lately and she makes pancakes and sourdough skillets that just use fed sourdough. She has really good videos on using it that don’t include bread. I have forgotten to feed it for two weeks and it still is fine.
I bought mine from homestead and chill too! Over the summer I put it in the fridge for 3 months when I was busy with the garden. no feeding at all. It took a couple days but I brought her back to life. I was shocked 😂 good stuff

When Ben said “that’s fine! I’m a farm boy!” That was so adorable, it warmed my heart! 😊 Such cute little piggies, congrats!
Love this! I just got my very first dairy goat. Being a beginner is hard, being a recovering perfectionist beginner is nearly crippling. Thank you for the encouragement
They look like a chipmunk. So cute, and that baby loving on them was the sweetest.
"Cow is louder than a sour dough starter." LOL! Love your humor!
Why do I feel such a part of your family? "Yeah we have baby pigs!!". And every farm needs a cute farm boy.
Your encouragement is such a balm to me. I love that “legacy is born out of persistent people”. You may not have said it exactly this way but I love the gist of it. During COVID I had time to dive deep into our garden and plant and tend. This year it got away from me and frankly I was embarrassed. Then along comes a young man and with awe in his voice as he looks at my wild and wooly-(weedy) garden, what do you grow here? Our kale is a volunteer and it’s everywhere! So I began sharing all of the beautiful and life giving food we’ve harvested, eaten and preserved out of our tangles of overgrowth and realized it may not look beautiful but it did it’s job in spite of me. Thank you Jess for reminding us not to define ourselves by what we can’t do and help us “see” what we can do. 💕
Jess, hang in there!! I know how our high aspirations can get the better of us. You are my pick me up after a hard day, like today. THANK YOU for your light!!!
Sourdough starters are a bear in the south because of the humidity. My SIL does it but she lives in the mountains. I’ve tried several times also and it never works. (Ga. Here)
I’ve tried to do sourdough a couple of times… they’re doing great it’s time to start using them and then… kaput… I would like to try again, thanks for the encouragement Jess.
Oh! I hadn't thought of the humidity ruining the starter before, duh, lol. I also live in Georgia.
Also a Ga humanoid here. This summer how I made some, mixed whole-wheat flour n equal amount of water covered it with some cheesecloth, set it out in the garden to collect the wild yeast in the air. This worked the best, I eventually had enough to put a lid on it and then the squirrels tried to steal it… I would use less water to keep it from over hydrating. Worked til I forgot to feed the starter/a fruit fly got into it and laid eggs, was not a happy baker. Tossed it in the compost pile. Then I tried leaving the water out to collect the yeast in the air and that seemed to work well. Also by adding a little rye flour helped it to get going by leaps and bounds. Don’t give up, you can do it just have to find what works for you.
I have talked myself out of so many things:
I’m trying new things.
I love people that do show some of their failures to help us newbies or self doubters that everyone fails sometimes .it is so motivating
I needed this. A sweet little “farm boy”, baby pigs, and encouraging words. I just made my first ever sour dough and it was fun. Using the discard was fun too, pancakes, funky flat bread, and the last of it made english muffins.
"I'm a farm boy :)" Yes! I love that happy spirit!
This just might be one of your most meaningful (to me, anyway!) videos yet! One of my good friends and I had a conversation along the same line just yesterday! Can’t wait to see your baked bread!
“It’s fine, I’m a farm boy”. I love it!!!!
I’m glad you have grace for yourself, Jess.
I make kombucha weekly and have for years. When I teach people how to do it, I always recommend making a “kombucha day” and make a date out of it. I find it fun to look at it that way-like I have something fun to look forward to. I’m not sure that is helpful, but it has helped me keep up on it. God bless!
So cute the piggies and Ben face is just lit up when he picked up one. Joy to watch. Congrats to mum piggies.😍🥰🐷🐖
My fellow sister sourdough killer! I salute you!! 😆 I’m an expert sourdough starter! But maintenance? 😬 Good thing I don’t have kids. Hahahahahah. Glad to see that you’re not perfect.
I can leave mine for weeks then feed and it’s fine. Use Jill Wingers recipe. No starter needed.
This little talk couldn't be more spot on to what I and many others go through, I'm sure. Thanks for the encouragement!
If I remember correctly Wardee makes sourdough with Eincorn flour. A name that’s easily searched. Sometimes it’s the environment and maybe your new environment will be more beneficial to your success.
Ps. love those countertops!
Benjamin is adorable with the baby pigs! Good luck with the sourdough starter! I just love how you keep it real. It's one of the things I like most about your channel.
You always have encouraging words and while I’m folding laundry, I’m listening to you. My grandmother had a patch of mint in her yard that she used to make a favorite family dish. Most of my family has a part of that mint, even my ex-husband. My daughter hasn’t been able to keep it hers alive but she knows where she can get it when she’s ready to try again! 🥰
So glad you and Miah took time for yourselves, You are the top of the chain of your family and homestead, never take that lightly, Renew yourselves often. This is from someone married for 51 years. God Bless your Marriage, your family, and your Homestead. Bless you until next time!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
YES!! I needed this. I have made a sourdough starter 3 times and it always molds (we live in southeast TX like 100% humidity) and every video I look up they are like ‘it’s so easy’ I’m like but how?? Why?? What am I doing wrong?? I appreciate you so much!
A helpful video I found for an easy sourdough starter is on Cowboy Kent Rollins channel. He explains the process in a very down to earth approachable way. Lives in Oklahoma.
Benny you are definitely a farm boy... God love you sweety 🧡 watching you makes my heart happy
Funny thing about that voice that tells us “well looks like I’m never gonna be able to do this” to me that little voice is motivation! While I’m breathing and able to use my mind and these arms and these legs my father in heaven gave me, I will keep trying regardless of how many times I fail! Thank you Jess AGAIN! I cannot make homemade bread to save my life but I keep saying that this next one will be THE loaf that works best for me!
I love the encouraging words that you are sharing with your platform. As Shelly from My Little Homestead says "some days you win, some days you learn." You've learned something about yourself and are learning how to re-write your inner dialogue about the type of person you are. Thanks for these nuggets of wisdom, Jess❤️
Jess, you have piggies! Your son is so cute, he is a farm boy thru & thru, It's so good to see children that are raised like this and love it. I hope his future is the farm he's always dreamed of. You should be very proud. I think your being alittle hard on yourself, granted it would be great to have something physical from your grandma, but more important is that she has passed on the knowledge for you to be able to do for yourself and teach that forward to your children. We can't all be great or even good with it all. lol
The piglets are too cute 😍 I thank you for your honesty 💜
Yay it’s Piggy time 🐷 Jess would you be willing to make a video on books you recommend for learning about animals and there uses on the farm? You mention regerative farming and I want to learn a lot more. Gotta turn my waiting room into the classroom 🪴
You should check out Redeeming the dirt academy. They have free courses on how to farm regeneratively.
I admire the way you embraced your vulnerability and share it with us. It made it my favorite video ! My heart is with you ❤
Awwww, Hun, your the kinda person who has ADHD…lol. I’m 61 and finally giving meds a try cause my now adult children have asked me to give it a go. Well now I feel foolish for being the kind of person that wouldn’t entertain that type of diagnosis. I still kill plants sometimes but I realize when I’m having a hard time it’s the only living thing I can neglect and it will mirror my struggle. ADHD is hereditary so you might seriously think about getting evaluated. Then you will recognize it in others. I had a million and one excuses to explain my symptoms but am pleasantly surprised at how much easier it is to focus and follow through now. Also to not to become hyper focused which is also a sign of ADHD. Attention deficit can easily be written off due to having a lot of “balls in the air.” Hyperactivity disorder in adults can just look “super busy.” Hope you give it a passing thought. Absolutely no offense intended. Very much enjoy your vlogs.
Dx at 57, night and day difference on medication.
My husband is 42 and started ADHD meds a few months ago. He said that with the meds, he feels like he has “agency over his thoughts” for the first time.
I love the affirmation you gave your starter “you’re gonna live” amen! such a great attitude. Thank you so much for this video. I’m currently sowing seeds in the garden for the summer garden and I’m gonna go tell them they are gonna live :) such a lovely video! Thanks for sharing Jess!
Just drop the words, "I'm the kind of person" and instead say, "I would like to do (such and such)." The key word is "do", not "be". 😉
I love you Jess.
You are so hard on yourself and so many people do that and you are giving us all the ok to allow ourselves to try fail and know that it’s ok. Thank you 🙏
Ben looking for the piglets is so adorable.
Hahaha! Laughing with you. That speech was epic! Just to turn around and not have the right flour. But you're still going for it with an unfamiliar flour. Cheers to you jess.
Babies born while your away is the normal if my memory serves me well .
Ben is such a loving little man . Sour dough can be fussy based on climate in your house .
Failure doesn't define you, but how you deal with it does. So I think you're doing great ❤
"you're gonna live"... that was the most inspirational part of the entire video
You are...you Are.
I love the way you encourage. Such a spiritual honest person!!!
Boy oh boy! Just when I think I couldn't adore you any more, you post a relatable vlog like this. Thank you. Seriously, we are best friends... just so you know. :)
Baby pig pees on Ben, “that’s fine I am a farm boy” he is so precious! And yes we all get down on ourselves sometimes, Thanks for the peptalk
Smoooooooth reaction to the lack of the specific flour 🤣Amazing! Thank you so much for being so real ❤️🥰 THIS. YOU. You truly started my day off right Thank You!!!
I have finally adopted the mindset that there is never failures only learning moment.
OMGosh!! too cute Ben. "That's alright, I'm a farm boy". So precious!!!! Blessings
I loved you talking about worrying about the kind of person you want to be. I have a tiny garden but with my disabilities I was getting really stressed about not being able to keep it looking perfect and not being able to keep up with it. But then I realised that other people thinking I'm a good gardener is not why I love being in the garden and having soil under my nails. My garden does not look perfect but is filed with love and even on a terrible pain day, it puts a smile on my face and that's what is important to me.
“It’s like I hate them” Haha I love it! I see myself so much in you and am so inspired by your journey. Thank you for sharing the good and bad both. I appreciate you so much ❤️
It is not the social media that is good or bad. It is just a tool. It is the people who maken nice or not.. you make it nice.. 😊
Yay for the piggies !!!! Love all you greenery inside the house !
This whole video makes my heart sing! Benjamin and the piglets made my heart burst!! As a baker I can say I have killed a handful of starters and have felt down about that. One thing that I have learned is once a month when you feed your starter add whole wheat or rye flour the proteins from the outer husk help feed and add more of the good bacteria to help it grow and stay alive. Good luck and you got this!! ❤
Oh boy this is me alllll the time trying to have multiple things going at the same time. Setting alarms on your phone are a life saver.
That boy of yours is just adorable! Congrats on the new babies!
"Im a farm boy!" It absolutely doesn't get any better than that!
As always, Jessica, I always not only find myself enjoying watching your content for the farm life, but I value your insight on life, “failures”, and learning to become the person i want, but loving who I already am. Thanks for sharing by your journey. Your words spoke particularly deeply in my heart this morning, and helped me to find some joy in who I am right here and now! ❤️
STOP BEATING YOUR SELF UP, God has you, pray and you will not kill any more sourdough.
I love your channel and I share your channel with my friends
Thank you, have a Blessed Day
I too am a Sourdough Killer… My dad loved sourdough so I am going to try again. I relate to this video so much. I needed to hear this. Give yourself Grace…
