I LOVE the taste of sourdough. I always have a bowl of sourdough dough in the kitchen. I often put oil in my 4 qt pan with the 3 inch sides, & using 2 oiled spoons, scoop up a small amount of dough, and slide it into the hot oil. Then I lightly salt the tops because I don't use salt in the starter dough In a few minutes, it puffs up like a donut, and it tastes incredible

Congratulations 🎉 I tried to make sourdough recipes I learned from IG today and I failed 😢. I am going to use the Ballerina recipe soon hopefully it turns out successful .
I made a half recipe this evening and will finish in the AM. I agree that the water quantity seems high. But I continued as per recipe. It seems shaggy, but sometimes one has to trust the process. Happy baking.
I made this today and both turned out with the highest rise I have ever had. I wanted to send you a picture but it wont allow on here. They are still hot so I cant slice to see the crumb...I dont care if it has holes or not...I am pretty happy with the results. Thank you.

THANK YOU THANK YOU! I've been making bread the "no knead" white bread for years... but have struggled with my sourdough recipes either too wet too dry, stretch & fold, knead?? But your recipe was PERFECT & I decided to ferment over night .. LOVED your method on shaping. The push & pull method created a lot of tension creating gas and a wonderful crumb... Sourdough my favorite I like a deep dark crust though this is a little dark ... PLEASE POST other sourdough recipes especially for discard... love making sourdough crackers serving with goat cheese... Thank you again I couldn't add a picture of the loaves 😢
My daughter learned to do it and she walked me through it on FaceTime. I didn’t like that it was tough to slice through the bottom crust so I tweaked the baking time and it’s easy to slice and tastes divine. The bottom is very light brown and soft.
Thank you 🙏🏼 I've never made sour dough bread before🙂 I look forward to trying 👍🏻you've explained quite nicely 🥰 have a lovely weekend 🙏🏼 Creator's blessings one and all 🙏🏼♥️
I've just tried this! My first sourdough ever ❤. This is my main recipe but i do knead a little bit more because my starter is a bit dense and the dough is a bit more wet than Hannah's. And i add baking time about 30 more minutes after removing the lid because my oven is not that hot. Somehow it turns out great! ❤ I was just about to give up when i see the loaf is white but after i add more time, it browns beautifully! *just a reminder, my dough is a bit more on the wet side, but for me it is manageable. Maybe it is because of the flour i use
Your kids are adorable 🥰 love seeing them enjoying the final sourdough bread. Thanks for putting this video together, super easy recipe and you shared some great instruction on how to roll the sourdough to get that amazing finished loaf

Yayy!!! A step by step...was waiting for this! Now, step by step to make the starter please! Also, if anyone here can answer this question for me: she uses her active starter for the levain phase, (mixture of starter, water & flour). Now, looks like she used the entire starter. How do you save active starter to continue the feedings? Do you let it grow till its big enough to use in your sourdough recipe, while leaving extra? I'm sure she has multiple starters in her home, but for someone like me who's just starting off, do I have to make sure my active starter Is big enough to leave some behind (not discard) but actual starter, to continue the process. Hope this is making sense and has been pestering my mind constantly 🤣
Ruby, what I did was wait an extra day and use that discard and keep in the fridge:) but, I will say, you don’t need a ton to feed it! If you have an itty bitty left, feed that and it will grow again!!😊
I keep a starter in the fridge and build a levain when I am ready to bake. I take my cold starter from the fridge. Do a feed and let it rise. Then start a levain from that starter. The remaining starter goes back in the fridge. Her starter/levain recipe is 30g starter, 125g water and 140g flour. This makes enough (plus a little extra) for her recipe.
Your recipe is so easy to follow! I’ve been wanting to try it for months now but never found the time, definitely giving it a go now that it’s on TH-cam too
@cheesewiz6606 You can make a starter by combining flour and water in measured amounts gradually over about a week. There are definitely videos all over youtube on this, however it can be easier to but a starter on etsy, fb or from Ballerina Farms 😊
There are several different ways to do it. The cowboy way is flour water and buttermilk sometimes yeast to. I wish I could post a picture here and I’d give u a full recipe with directions for sourdough starter. But I just did 1 part warm purified water (not hot) 1 part unbleached flour, let it set 24 hrs and then add 1 part unbleached flour 1 part purified warm water then again 24 hrs, day 3 can discard half of this mix u have (or make something from a sourdough discard recipe). Now same thing, feed it equal parts warm purified water and unbleached flour. Do this everyday for 7-8 days. Now u should have an active starter that is doubling when u feed it. Now start feeding it twice a day about every 12 hrs. If your starter is already active or bubbling and doubling by day 4 or 5, u can start feeding it twice then (I fed mine twice a day when I got to day 4). By day 7 or 8, u have an active and ready to use starter (sometimes before then. You will know when it is doubling in volume and bubbly. It’ll have a sweetish and yeasty smell. If it has an alcohol smell, it needs to be fed (flour and water). U will ALWAYS want to use unbleached flour and will ALWAYS want to use purified water. Because the bleach and chlorine and other chemicals in tap water or water that is not purified or distilled or boiled first then cooled, will kill the good bacteria’s (will kill your sourdough starter). Same with bleached flour. And u don’t want the water hot either, just warm. Kind of the same temp u would make yogurt in. Just warm enough for the bacteria’s to grow and thrive in. Once your starter is active and doubling, u can use it for all the sourdough recipes and u will want to either store it in the fridge and feed it once a week (feed it before u will be using it) or if u will be using it everyday I can just leave it out and feed it twice a day as needed. U can also switch back and forth from having it out several days or weeks to keeping it in the fridge. Just be sure to feed it daily if it’s out or weekly if it’s stored in the fridge. I hope this helps. U can go to little spoon farm website or farmhouse on Boone. They have sourdough starter recipes and directions as well as a lot of different information on sourdough. And there are several other sites that are great to I just forgot the name of them right off hand.
Equal parts water and flour 50gms of each or 60 gms of each . I let mine start bubbling in the jar then refrigerate it. Refrigerate for as long as you want. I feed mine at least twice within a week. Then it’s ready to bake with. Then add your baking ingredients after letting it warm up to room temperature. I use spring water because I don’t trust the chlorine in our city water.
just mix equal parts water and flour then rest for the day, the second day you can add the same amounts again and let it rest. then the rest of the week, discard half and feed the same ratios. it should start to bubble up and in a few weeks you’ll have a living starter

Hopefully someone sees this comment before mixing: 735+50g of water is TOO much. After adding the salt, see how wet the dough is before adding the 50g extra of water
Wish I saw this before lol that’s what I thought today when I made it, I was like I feel like this is so too much water! I feel like my dough came out kinda dense from the water
I used he’s white wheat that I milled myself and and it wasn’t enough water. Maybe her ballerina flour brand has higher protein % so requires more water. My flour has higher protein than all purpose which is why I needed more 😊

Thank you for this step by step video! I just made my first loaf of sourdough bread and my husband and I both couldn’t believe how good it was! ❤
А как вы приготовили закваску
Добрый вечер. Расскажите, как Вы сделали закваску
I LOVE the taste of sourdough. I always have a bowl of sourdough dough in the kitchen. I often put oil in my 4 qt pan with the 3 inch sides, & using 2 oiled spoons, scoop up a small amount of dough, and slide it into the hot oil. Then I lightly salt the tops because I don't use salt in the starter dough
In a few minutes, it puffs up like a donut, and it tastes incredible
I asked my husband for one of your ballerina farm sourdough kits for Christmas so hopefully I got one and then I can use this video as a guide! I tried making sourdough a couple years ago during lockdowns and it didn’t come out quite right. I’ve heard it’s a bit of an art form and takes time to master haha. Wish me luck! 🙏🏼
That butter is other worldly! I love this family. ❤
I’m loving and supporting your farm from Japan 🇯🇵 ❤ can’t wait to watch more TH-cam videos ! Please post more often how you make amazing farm dishes ☺️
I just want you to know that because of watching your videos, I just finished making my first batch of Greek Yogurt!!! Lol...I am so excited. It is delicious! I adore Greek Yogurt, and I am never buying it again!! I can't believe how easy it was. So thank you for sharing your videos with us. Oh! And another thing! I am baking a banana bread right now and it's the first time I put peanut butter in it! I never thought about putting peanut butter in banana bread before. And I have to be honest, I also put a little of my Greek Yogurt in it too!!! I don't know if that's good or bad but I thought I won't know until I try it! Hope it's good! Lol! Love to your beautiful family.
Please do a video on how you do a starter and equally how you use and maintain it. Yours is the first video I have ever seen that clearly and fully explained sourdough
Just go on TH-cam and look at videos on how to make a sourdough starter there are tons of them she sells her recipe for starter but there are free videos tons of them on TH-cam on how to make starter how to make sourdough❤
Best recipe ever! 😋 ❤ I've been following this recipe for a year now. I took a break for the summer, and I'm ready to start again. BTW, I'm just hoping here to say Hanna you're amazing and such inspiration. You're blessed with a precious family! ❤
I love love love how all your hard work is so enjoyable to you that it looks easy! Kudos!!!
Thank you Hannah for your honesty (no pretence of Vogue living with a family) & sincerity. God bless 🙏❤
Thank you for making TH-cam videos! I can't do Instagram anymore ,)
Same!! I’ve yet to delete my app but I’ve tired of it. Ballerina farm is the one account I kept thinking I’d miss
Same. I had to delete insta!
We did away with Instagram as well. Can't wait to try the recipe 😋
Also done with Instagram, appreciate the video as well
Same here! Off of YT & IG for years now! YT is it for me! Thanks for starting this channel Ballerina Farms! Can’t wait to see the growth.
Love ❤️ your videos you inspire me I’m Iraqi American 🇮🇶🇺🇸🇮🇶🇺🇸 mom of 4 and trying to keep everything home made for my kiddos
This video gave me the confidence to finally go for making a sour dough loaf! Tomorrow is the day to bake, I’m so excited!
I bought Willa with the spatula and jars last year and she is SOOOO happy. She’s never let me down. Just baked a boulle today. I’ve been able to share her with lots of my friends and I always tell them my starter is famous. 😜😘💛
Thinking about buying. Can you save a little of the starter and keep using? Or is it more of a one time thing?
You make it seem so easy!! This is one of my 2023 bucket list items; can’t wait to get my first loaf done!
did you do it ?
Es ist so schön und ästhetisch, deine Videos inspirieren mich dazu, Dinge zu tun, die mir vorher langweilig vorkamen
this process is so much easier than ones i’ve tried before!! trying tonight!
My first attempt came out perfect and delicious. Easy to follow recipe. Thanks!
Hello Hanna, I’m a new subscriber that has had a sourdough starter for 5 years now, and just made your bread. It turned out amazing…..🎉
Congratulations 🎉
I tried to make sourdough recipes I learned from IG today and I failed 😢. I am going to use the Ballerina recipe soon hopefully it turns out successful .
I made a half recipe this evening and will finish in the AM. I agree that the water quantity seems high. But I continued as per recipe. It seems shaggy, but sometimes one has to trust the process. Happy baking.
What about 3-4 sets of stretch and fold - before shaping?
Hvala za video.Super recept a Vama sve pohvale za trud i ljepotu Vas i vaše djece.❤
I started my starter using one of your starter packets. It is so good! Thank you!
I made this today and both turned out with the highest rise I have ever had. I wanted to send you a picture but it wont allow on here. They are still hot so I cant slice to see the crumb...I dont care if it has holes or not...I am pretty happy with the results. Thank you.
I tried this.. SUCCESS ! My first time. I rinsed the starter jar..with the required wat
er ...after emptying it.. helps clean out the jar and you use all of the starter..:)..
Wow I think this is the first time I finally made a big round fluffy sourdough after I tried so hard for 2 months . I kept making this flat sourdough which still eatable but not as good as look with all those you made . And after I watched your video and do exactly you taught, and I succeed, and I am so grateful to follow you .❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great job! That’s excellent! It’s a process and persistence wins! 👩🍳🥖😅
Mommy's little helper, Lois! What a lovely way to spend time with your girls in the kitchen. That dutch oven looks like it's been serving up many loaves of delicious, happy sourdough bread!😋🥰
Thank you again
I couldn't add a picture of the loaves 😢
Que legal! O seu jeito de fazer esse pão é bem mais fácil e prático pq não precisa ficar fazendo dobras a cada 30 minutos. Vou fazer do seu jeito 😊☺️
Making this now and just ordered your sourdough book I am so excited to learn even more and grateful to you and your beautiful family for the videos.
This is going to be so helpful, Hannah. My 18 yr old granddaughter is getting your sourdough kit for Christmas.
My daughter learned to do it and she walked me through it on FaceTime. I didn’t like that it was tough to slice through the bottom crust so I tweaked the baking time and it’s easy to slice and tastes divine. The bottom is very light brown and soft.
Beautiful loaf and instructions. I wish I had your patience and know how to bake my own bread. But I admire people like you that do.
Thank you 🙏🏼 I've never made sour dough bread before🙂 I look forward to trying 👍🏻you've explained quite nicely 🥰 have a lovely weekend 🙏🏼 Creator's blessings one and all 🙏🏼♥️
THANK YOU HANNAH for the tutorial....learning how to make sourdough bread 🍞 is my New Years Resolution 🙂
Oh, my gosh...this brought back favorite memories of my childhood!🥰
Sou Brasileira. Amei conhecer seu trabalho e sua linda Família! Quero muito aprender com você a fazer pão. Devem ser muito bom! Parabéns pelo seu lindo trabalho.
I noticed you have an AGA stove. My husband shop makes them along with many other high end kitchen appliances available for the home cook, commercial, and chefs homes. I love the green color and of course you and your family's videos.❤😊
$35k for a stove. WOW!!!
Wow, you are a greater instructor, I think I can make the bread, although I have never tried it before. Thanks a lot
I'd love to have a written recipe, too. I'm just getting my feet wet !
@@lynns9671 She has a website with recipe and written directions. Her directions are slightly different that what she did in the video.
@@janiewashburn6609 I found them ! I've been doing pretty well, so far. Her video was such a big help to me. Thanks for letting me know
Great recipe thank you for sharing
Your recipe is so easy to follow! I’ve been wanting to try it for months now but never found the time, definitely giving it a go now that it’s on TH-cam too
So happy to hear that!
Hy there! Made your bread yesterday, verry delicious! Right now we are in Romania! Thank you and blessings to your beautyful family
Why don't anyone tell us how to make a Sourdough starter
@cheesewiz6606 You can make a starter by combining flour and water in measured amounts gradually over about a week. There are definitely videos all over youtube on this, however it can be easier to but a starter on etsy, fb or from Ballerina Farms 😊
There are plenty of tutorials on TH-cam. Some even show you their starter in each stage to show you what to look for 😊
I absolutely agree, it's like a secret that no one should know lol
Magnifique 😻
Thanks a lot for giving your techniques and showing the whole process. 🙏🏼
Love this video! Please make more content like this and share more recipes!!!!!!!!!!
I'm inspired to start spending more time in my kitchen and teach myself how to cook!
I’m just here to subscribe and support what you and your family are doing. My way of fighting the stupidity of the internet. Keep killing it!!!
That’s a great sourdough starter bread as it’s simple and perfect for me who is just starting out and never baked. Thank you
And how do you make the sourdough itself? 😅
just mix equal parts water and flour then rest for the day, the second day you can add the same amounts again and let it rest. then the rest of the week, discard half and feed the same ratios. it should start to bubble up and in a few weeks you’ll have a living starter

You are such an awesome cook! Did you always cook or is this something you learned when you got married? I didn’t know how to cook when I got married. I was gifted a cookbook…lol. Still have it. Now it’s a vintage Better Homes and Gardens. They was 36 years ago. I taught myself how to use raw milk to make what you make and dough and breads. I’m older now and cannot eat this way, so my food style has changed. Basically, it’s just meat and vegetables. I truly miss the creativity and purity of cooking like you. Is wholesome and holy. I just got my first Ballerina Farm Box today! It was your pick Hanna. I got the large one for May 1st and one of my add ons was the cinnamon croissants. I’m excited to try your foods. God bless you and your family. Thank you for sharing as always.

I love that you are on TH-cam, one of my fave places to learn and do all the things 💗
I just followed the recipe and had amazing results!!!
Was your dough pretty wet?
Hopefully someone sees this comment before mixing: 735+50g of water is TOO much. After adding the salt, see how wet the dough is before adding the 50g extra of water
Wish I saw this before lol that’s what I thought today when I made it, I was like I feel like this is so too much water! I feel like my dough came out kinda dense from the water
Me too !
I used he’s white wheat that I milled myself and and it wasn’t enough water. Maybe her ballerina flour brand has higher protein % so requires more water. My flour has higher protein than all purpose which is why I needed more 😊
It depends on your flour

I just made mine. Sourdough first timer 😅 it was a bit undercooked but tasted great!! I will try again!!
Yay!!! Practice practice practice and it will just keep getting better ❤️
Mine doesn't seem to double in 8-10 hours in the fridge and is much stickier than yours when I take it out after 10 hours and then when I do the first shape after taking it out of the fridge, it doesn't hold it's shape much and flattens some in that first 20 minutes on the counter. Yours just looks so smooth and pliable and mine looks more shiny. Any tips?

finally i saw her youtube. i like it they share there ingredients without subscribed the website thank you i really appreciate it you videos.
