Theres a special place in my heart for the pawnshop mustang video, i bought one off the back of that video as my first electric! Ive owned other great guitars but that mustang is easily the most solid most reliable thing in my guitar collection, 12 years and ive never had a setup issue with it! And super versatile! I love it to bits!!
i remember watching that pawnshop mustang video and over again the Christmas before I got mine... pulled the neck off and put it in a suitcase and brought it back to Tokyo back in March and I'm so glad I did!
I appreciate the honesty with the bad Gibson. Its the worst when reviewers and demo players defend things for the sake of the brand they're demoing. Just because the company is legendary, and is one of the best of the best, doesn't mean they won't ever have a miss or two, or 10!
@@porschepal7932 even Epiphone has its problems now, Eastman are in a different league of quality for similar prices. Epi LP vs Eastman SB59, the Eastman kicks the Epi's arse.

Brilliant video again Rob, after ignoring V's my whole life, I picked up a V identical to yours (also 2008) and it too has it's own spirit, there was something going on that year.
I enjoyed this video. Jeff was also a good friend of mine. I did my work experience in his original shop (Machinehead Music) way back in 1998. I went to visit him at World Guitars back in 2013, not knowing that it would be the last time I'd ever see him. He was a great guy and I miss him very much. Seeing him in this video bought back a lot of good memories.

Dammit, Chappers, you are torturing me with those Blue/Black Ghost Frets! LOL! Fun video, sir. My opinion on "mature" guitars is this: Each person who has played any given old guitar, has infused said guitar with a little piece of their soul/aenima/ being/lifeforce or whatever you want to call it. Those little bits of human spirit combine with yours, and allow those past artists to speak through your voice. Of course, it could just be the age-seasoning of the wood that gives a ripened guitar its unique qualities... but what fun is that, to think about?
Great trip down memory lane Rob, thanks. FYI following on from the Memphis Les Paul clip, I actually bought a Memphis 339, like the one Lee was holding, but in red, still my number 1. Incredible series of guitars.
Picked up the same V, but an 06. I saw the Long and McQuade employee walk out of the back with it and put it on the wall. I went over immediately to try it and fell in love instantly. An absolutely phenomenal instrument

Dusty has retired to South Elmsall, just outside Doncaster. He's occasionally gigging acoustic delta blues. He has a facebook page. Northern Guitars is now a small venue/ coffee shop/ guitar store.
I had a Cortez les paul copy that was light. It had a bit of an arch top. It had to have some air in the body and empty space under that top somewhere because that guitar had more natural sustain than any other guitar that I have ever owned and I bought that guitar around 77 or 78 in my hometown little music store that was not Gibson or Fender dealer. They had Crown SG copies that we were all playing. they were 200 bucks and very nice to play. WE gigged with them. I remember watching the Memphis video when it went live! You were so happy with that guitar back then, sad to hear you had to sell it. Did you write down the serial number or any way to recognize it should you come across it in the future again? Sounds like a "the one that got away" story that deserves a happier ending ;)
Loving the series so far and can’t wait for the pedal episode, I’ve have been watching your stuff for years and still love all the stuff you did with Anderton’s and I’ll definitely go check out some of these reviews for myself. I also will agree with you on the Firebird X, like I once tried one and while I will admit that some of the stuff that Gibson had done to it at the time was unique it’s just incredibly difficult and feels really uncomfortable to play and it’s just a poor-sounding guitar in general imo. Love your stuff, Rob, cheers and love from Canada
Wow I miss Jeff too. What a legend. Funny, kind and the best guitar store dealer ever. World Guitar still rocks so perhaps Jeff’s looking down on Stonehouse.
The first video I ever saw of you was that Jem demo. I remember when those came out, and cost $1899 CAD. I was looking for my first "real guitar, and had made $1600 over the course of the entire summer. I ended up with an Ibanez RG410, but I never forgot that first Desert Yellow wonder. The neck was thicker than the Wizard necks, but thinner than my RG410, and it was perfect. The whole thing felt like it was made for me. After Nirvana hit, I had a chance at one for $800, but was a poor student. Now, I just can't justify it unless I get insanely lucky on a deal.
Wow! I bought my first electric guitar from Jeff in about 1985. Had to sell it about 15 years ago, due to circumstances...and been looking for it ever since... 😕👍🏼

For pure sentimental reasons I am looking to get a 1999-2000 Gibson Gothic Explorer, had one...don't anymore....regret is real. It wasn't the best guitar I ever played though. That honor goes to a an LTD KH202. Yes a Kirk Hammett signature, and the lowest on that totem pole. Just like Rob said about the LTD in this video, something just clicked with it. It was a buttery smooth conglomeration of perfection not seen since the picture of that girl that you fell in love with only to realize that it was a freak moment in time and she never looked like that...yea THAT.
Look at a chambered one from the late Noughties. They sound great, and they were using some super wood at that time. It's weird how people will revere the Supreme and a hollow Memphios,. but sneer at the chambered LP's. Much better tone than the cheese hole weight relief. The mistake Gibson made was to not disclose at the outset.
Nice count down. But, do electrics need to scream? I like good old southern blues and even when the first fuss came from an accident it took a long time to get to open the arenas stadiums. I'm showen my age when I still enjoy some hollow bodies to.
