Always thought it was one of his most beautiful instrumental parts married with one of his best set of lyrics. The way rhythm, harmony and melody are worked together is so musical.
Oh man. That solo… even though it’s your improv, I had to learn it. It sounds so brutal so powerful so viscous so good. By learning it I learned so much about soloing and upped my own skills. Thank you sir! Hats off.
To be honest with allot of practice its not so difficult to play hendrix songs or in his style, the real crazy thing in my opinion is, that jimi invented his style of playing, thats really crazy
I have learned what I know about playing guitar over the internet. I've subscribed to many a site, bought lessons from bluesguitarunleashed, licklibrary (most expensive), texas blues alley, privatetricker or something like that and countless others. Where the hell were you? You are without a doubt the best, most patient, and unpretentious teacher ever. I have learned without any stress at all more from you in the last day and a half than in the 5-6 years preceding. Thank you, thank you and thank you again!
Hi Tim, Man what can I say, you have changed my whole out look at playing the guitar. So inspiring to see and watch you play. You're awesome and subscribed to your link. You know, I wasn't a Hendrix fan for I guess you would say because of my upbringing. I'm watching you play now , Hey Joe, What amp or pedals do you recommend to get the sounds I'm hearing.I see Matchless in the back ground and other stuff. I am playing with a Fender supersonic, 60 watt combo, which I really like. Hope I hear back from you. My email is, mpa4982@gmail.com. I would love to send you some pictures I have of some of my guitars I have made from scratch. Not a kit. Body, neck and everything else.
Tim.. I use to play all of Hendrix's songs. I am starting to play them again. Thanks for the refresher lesson,I love Jimi's style and he never knew what 9th's and 13th's chords were. But he played them all. Thanks Tim.
How can I give this 5 thumbs up !??.... You can only get as brilliant as this by having a genuine love for this astonishing music, and a sincere respect for the genius who created it - all that shines through Tim's inspiring and humble recreations... world class
You are amazing to figure this out and clearly and modestly lay it on us here ! I'm 70 years old and can recall seeing him in an old red velvet type opera house in Ottawa Canada , lighter fluid and all , close proximity at about 16 years old . You simply have no idea how much he is doing at the time . Your skill and effort is also an exceptional experience for me .
Amazing lesson 👏🏻 finally getting this song down because of this video! Jimi Hendrix walked up to my grandfather Clarence White at Whiskey-a-go-go down in LA and said he was a fan; I can't stop learning Hendrix; he lays a great foundation for growing your own knowledge of connections on the fretboard
Tim you really are the man when it comes to showing how to play and specific song lessons I’ve always found the way you explain and show how a song is played so easy to get my head around.....thanks so much for sharing a song I loved as a teen in the seventies.
Wish you were my brother and we played in the same band Tim. You are a great teacher. We can all play something fast, but everything you play, you can play in any tempo. That makes you great teacher. You seem to love to show your talent and are very humble.
Tim, there are so many things that I love about your playing and lessons but I need to express how much I appreciate your honesty around cramping fingers (which I get a lot when trying new things repetitively) and flubbed notes (which I also do too much of), and the need to not do so. Your playing is so impeccable and clean and honest that it gives me chills, as well as the realization that I have a lot of work to do, while appreciating what a great artist is capable of. You make me want to play better, not just learn songs and licks. Great Thanks for all you do with your videos, as well as your contribution to so much music. Thanks.again. You Really Rock!
I really love the approach you take to sharing these great lessons. Just can't thank you enough for all you are doing for your craft. I've been playing for over 20 years now and I'm learning things I've never been shown before. You rock, Tim! BTW, now I want a Divided by 13 amp and a Tim Pierce OD pedal. Masterful, sir!
+Tim Pierce Guitar- What William said! I've been playing over 20 years, too - this song included. Your lesson straightened me out on more than a few things. Thank you!
Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to put up such a detailed (yet straight forward) lesson. Your teaching style is spot on...taking bite sized licks and "let me put that in context for you." Brilliant !! Thanks so much !!
Unreal. Really instructive! Except, Tim, can you double-check that the quick hammer-on over the barred D in the 7th position in the intro at about 0:09? It's just that I've always hammered on up to the A note on the 10th fret (2nd string; whereas you trill the G on the 8th fret), and having listened to the original, it still sounds to my ear as if the former is correct. However, it wouldn't have been in Jimi's technique to extend a pinky up to the 10th fret (though I suppose the sheer size of his hands would've allowed his ring finger to grab it). Still, I can't help but hear it in this way. Have a listen again to the record; keen to hear your thoughts...
That trill you explain at around 6:03 sounds very much like it should be hammering to the 10th fret, not the 8th? Could be my ear picking that out wrong though. Great tutorial!
yes thats right it is the 10th hammer and pull of on b string then g9 quickly marty even gets it wrong onyou tube, but never the less its correct other than the feel, yoy cant teach that, it best to learn the old fashion way and your ears will develop and you will be able to pick apart most any solos on guitar if you spend time and not "cheat"
Yep, can't believe Tim missed that! Stands out like a sore thumb when you've listened to (and played) this song as many times as I have. Tim's great though, I'll give him a pass ; )
Tim I just wanted to thank you again for lighting the fire under my ass to start playing again the past 2 years, because of my disability nd damn doctors all the time I've had to sell my Gibson sg, fender mex start and my Marshall dsl5c :( but I still have my squire strat ) no amp but at least I can still play everyday and from going from not remembering Hartley anything 2 years ago my playing has improved 20 fold thanks to you man, a loyal watcher of your TH-cam and video channels Jim.
thank you Tim!! thank you for making this so easily accessible! I don't always fully trust what I'm figuring out. But cheating with your breakdown, I could focus more on the rythm and feel, which becomes the bulk if the Hendrix sound. Thanks for the hands up on this one!
the first minute of this video was a joy to watch, Hendrix never gets old to listen too, whats funny is hendrix probably never played it that perfect except when he recorded it, and after that he would play similar to it, but Tim can play it over and over again the same way every time
+photographerjonathan Hendrix admitted to being, well not as great of a guitar player as everyone said. Yeah he was humble, but he also said he makes a lot of mistakes. Shame he will never know how much of an impact he has made and how inspirational(sometimes discouraging because of his unique abilities) he is to guitar players.
Tim, you son of a gun..isn't the internet a wonderful thing..always loved this number..the standard of JH was so far ahead of his contemporaries imo to the point that when trying to learn by ear..lifting the needle up and back repeatedly..I got so far then just gave up out of frustration for two reasons 1 for not picking it up and 2 for creating a see-through album almost..now after watching your demo I have it down (the intro that is) still working on the solo but I will get there all thanks to your tuition so I appreciate what your doing I just wish you were around when I was starting out..internet too.
yeah man, i agree with william below, the most difficult things i can now play (within reason) are down to you matey. find it alot easier learning from you than most
Hi Tim, Just wanted to take a moment to Thank You for all the Time you put into helping other Guitarist's develop their Skills and Knowledge Base. I really enjoy your teachings, you are very good at your method, and your a Great Guitar Player in your own right! Being nearly 60, it seems to be getting harder for me to remember things but with lots of practice/repetition (sometimes quite slowly!) I will make it thru to the other side :-))) Again, many Thanks! Doc "Onward Thru The Fog"
Okay, Tim, check it out. If we're going by the "AYE" version that we all grew up listening to, a couple of things: You're blowing past that A note (7th fret on D string) too fast, like it's a grace note. Give it a value to help establish the "D" chord, then slide up to the B . And don't make it a sus 4 off the B string with your index D triad barre. Discover your pinky and hammer that A on the B string (10th fret). It's easier, but it's also correct.
If this song was all Hendrix ever did, we'd still be talking about Hendrix.
Well said
Very insightful. It's universal poetry played on 🎸.
That's a fact.

Truth

dang, nice job!
How did you learn it? Slowing the vid down or tabs?
@@jleftjpl5511I learned it to and just slowed the video down, shit was brutal though highly don’t recommend
Tim, you're about the only guy I can think of that has the touch to be able to play Hendrix. Beautiful playing...cheers

It really is amazing how unique, creative and innovative Hendrix was. Sad he's gone.
Every time I watch one of Tim’s videos I simultaneously want to play guitar 12 hours a day for the rest of my life and never pick one up ever again.
Such a beautiful song, one of my favorites by Hendrix.

Man, when Tim breaks down like a single barre, you can just still hear how masterful he is on the guitar. Like he just touches the thing differently.
My Dad played this for me over 55 years ago - still brings tears to my eyes .

That was the closest I’ve ever heard
I’ve always loved that tune but never heard it played live .
Can’t imagine why
Well done
Man alive he's good.
Doesn’t the “trill” do a minor third instead of a half step?

Fantastic format on explaining the nuances of playing it.... Thank you Tim!!!
What a wonderful gift, you play so well.
