    My music store back in the 70's was a Peavey dealer. We sold a lot of their gear. When I sold the store and hit the road most of the bands PA gear for mixers and power amps and some speakers were all Peavey. CS series power amps, 24 channel mixing board, SP1 cabs with black widow 15's, Peavey horn drivers, Peavey monitors, Peavey rack mount EQ's. My bass rig was a Peavey rack mount preamp, peavey rack mount EQ. Peavey CS 800 power. None of that gear ever broke down period. From temps of -56 degrees in Alberta, Canada to 115 degrees in Arizona. It never failed to deliver. Great tough gear. Hartley deserves a place in musical history.

    Hartley Peavey is a living legend up there with Leo Fender or better. I would like to shake his hand and thank him for his great products and philosophy. I am certain Peavey will go back to the old glory days in the near future.

      I sure hope so, I’m thinking they are still moving in the right direction, since your comment 2 years ago, I have seen big steps in the right direction, and the new versions of the Vandenberg just announced look incredible, they didn’t copy the old technology in the Vandenberg, the new one is an updated version. I can’t wait to get one, I still have my ‘88 Rock it Pink, and it is the best playing guitar I have, and I have Charvels, EVH Wolfgang’s, ESP Explorer, Gibson Les Paul Custom, USA 1984 Kramer Pacer, 1985 USA Kramer Baretta, Custom Shop GMW guitar. My 1988 Vandenberg is better playing than them all. PV was so far ahead of the game, their 1988 Vandy’s are still better than the competition. PV Cult baby! Also their 6505MH is the best 20watt head for home and stereo use I have ever played, better than my Marshall 20watt Silver Jubilee.

    Legendary figure to me. He put many a wonderful product within reach of me...the young musician at the time. My first amp was a Rage 158. Which I still use for practicing. And when I play live now I rely on my Peavey Invective 120. I see Peavey stalling in the current business climate and I really hope someone takes that same spirit of innovation Hartley Peavey built and carries it forward from here.

      My hometown. That factory gave a lot of my friends and family jobs over the years. It's very sad to see the current state. Most of their buildings around town have been gutted and even the HQ barely has over 20 vehicles parked outside on a typical day. I will always love their amps but it makes me sad to see how they've exported all production.

But.....I must be stupid because two years ago I picked up a 40 year old T-60 and it is one of the best guitars I ever held in my hands.....and I think Hartley would consider me even more stupid if I told him that I really think that there might be a little "magic" involved....

    I have a lot of respect for Hartley Peavey after watching this. I never really gave much thought to the peavey products during my career in pro audio and now after going to back to another trade and having an opportunity to possibly buy some peavey speakers at a steal of a deal now I really want them knowing more about the creator... it's nice to know Peavey is still Peavey unlike a lot of the brands I've gravitate led to over the years the have been bought and sold and are a fraction of what they used to be in the beginning.

    Great interview with a guy with everything to lose. You wouldn't release a shoddy product with your name on it, would you? I've had amps from all major manufacturers and price points. The only brand I haven't had to repair, even after 30 years of ownership is Peavey. That is, the solid state amps... I've had to repair an original 1st gen 5150 212 combo (6505 today) but I bought it, non-working, for $120 about 15 years back with the intention of fixing it. Repaired it for $300 last year. My favorites? Teal stripe: Classic Chorus 212, Stereo Chorus 212, Revolution Stack which is basically a stereo chorus in head form. Red Stripe: Studio Pro 112, Revolution 112. Vypyr Series: Vypyr 30 Head, Vypyr Pro 100. Vypyr Pro flew under my radar until last year. Of all modelling amps, this one is still the greatest I've heard. A stereo version of the Pro in head form would replace everything I have from all brands, without a second thought.

    Still there's little point in bad mouthing other classic instruments. It works similar to say a Steinway or Stradivarius.. a person uses an old Fender or whatever because they love that sound and that's what they want. There's no building a better one of those setups... so there's arguments either way. That said, the Peavey stuff I've owned has always been solid, well made, and for the most part, sounding great.

    I would say that was a great interview... if it was one. Hartley gives speeches not interviews. The whole time I never heard him mention artist feedback. Leo thrived from artist feedback. I'm not saying he isn't a great man but other than Van Halen, where are the great artists? I can see he speaks but does he listen?

    • @teerexness
      @teerexness 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Peavey has always been about building equipment primarily for "everyman" everywhere. Not about collecting artist deals. And their "bang for the buck" factor combined with wide availability from New York City to Creston Iowa should make them justifiably proud, in my opinion. Given Hartley Peavey's success and experience, I think it's best that we just let him talk while we all listen.

    • @poopypanysou812
      @poopypanysou812 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      teerexness True. I think I said it wrong. I was trying to explain that items sold by Fender were tried by many players before their release to the public. I'm not talking about artist deals but more specifically a product that is improved by local players' feedback. I'm not saying Hartley isn't legendary or making a bad product, I'm saying that products that have been put in players hands seem to last in the market a lot longer. Like Tele's and Strats and Fender amps etc. They are timeless. I would expect listening to your customers may be an important quality some of the time.

    • @teerexness
      @teerexness 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Danny Bates There are still a whole lot of Peavey T-60 guitars and T-40 basses floating around out there in the sticks. And they stopped making those many, many years ago. When I was growing up, pretty much any music store renting school band equipment sold Peavey gear also. It was a much longer drive to find a Fender or a Gibson. Or a Marshall or Vox. Or a JBL or Crown. Ah, the good old days!

    • @JoseMTamez
      @JoseMTamez 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Are you serious? Most all the southern rock bands back in the day would swear by Peavey. They used Peavey Mace guitar amplifiers. Those amplifiers were the holy grail of guitar amplifiers for southern rock guitarists. Some referred to those amps as the "Mississippi Marshall" referring to Peavey being based out of Meridian, Mississippi. The Peavey Mace amplifiers were used by Moly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special and many other rock star guitarist. You've just failed in the creditability department, miserably I might add. If you've been passionate about doing something for the last 50 years you might act and feel the same way.

    decades ago, Peavey products were not available in big box stores nor through mail order - only sold in mom n pop music stores. their stuff was also made in the USA. such a shame that those are both gone now. Peavey made their best stuff in the 1980s and had their technological zenith in the 1990s. unfortunately, all good things come to an end.

    I love Peavey's philosophy when it comes to amplification. Great. However, I have to question his complaints about government regulations. What does he mean? His company can't pollute the environment as much as he would like? He has to make sure his shop conforms to safety standards that protect his employees? Sorry, but he's the one that brought it up. And quite frankly, it put me off.

    • @Lloyd33

      I assumed he was talking more of trade regulations, such importing certain individual electronic components or even speaker cone material, etc. that they need to build their products. And also the issues with exporting to other countries. The USA flat out bans shipping of goods to certain countries, which is just stupid. I doubt he meant that he wants to pollute the environment or put his employees in danger. That's not really good for business.

    Unfortunately Peavey 'ain't what she used to be'. In 2015, shortly after this interview, Peavey closed down their main Mississippi manufacturing facility in favor of farming a lot of stuff out to China. Since then, the quality of their product has really gone down the tubes (no pun intended), and unless they bring their manufacturing to the U.S.A. pretty quickly, and get better QC, they'll end up tanking like so many other legacy musical equipment companies. It should be a lot easier for them to do this since the President relaxed a lot of the restrictions for smaller companies here in the U.S. to promote bringing their business back home. I have a Peavey Bandit 65 guitar amp that was built in the mid-1980's and still works fine to this day. Never had an issue with it in 36 years!😉

Great value, yes.. but it's outdated imho. There are many other new and exciting things out there. Competition is tight and mean.
