In the late 80s, I worked in a mom and pop music store that sold Peavey gear. One afternoon a customer came in asking about his Peavey amp that sent back to Peavey for repair, and when it would be done. I told him Id try calling Peavey , but its closing time there, and I just get there recorded message. Well I called and someone picked up. I told them the issue. He went and looked up the invoice and said, sorry that took longer than expected, we changed the board to a up dated one and we had just finished the new ones. The amps done, it shipped today. I thanked him for picking up the phone after hours, I asked who he was , He said this Hartly Peavey, I was in the office when the phone rang, everyone had left, so I picked up,figured it must be important calling after hours. How many company ceo's would do that! Hartly Peavey is a down to earth person. That really cares about his customers, large or small.
Some of my most prized musical moments and memories were accomplished largely in part due to Mr. Hartley's passion for what he did over his career. The fact that it was at a very reasonable price makes it even more valuable. Thank you!
Mr Peavy is got to be the Most Underrated Instrument / Gear / PA makers ever. I've seen many Other Co. amps speakers PA's blow break on stages while NEVER Once Have I had ANY Peavy product go out, but speakers & that was my fault, but the Great thing is we carried extra Diaphragms for the Horns & Cones for the Baskets PV is The only Speaker Co. that I know of where you only replace cone/diaphragm not the whole speaker basket & magnet or the horn 10 min fix Easy & the show can go on.
I had the honor of meeting Hartley Peavey while I was a member of Young American Showcase in 1987! Peavey sponsored our company and our band called Free Fair and provided all the equipment we used on stage. We did hundreds of shows each year and the equipment stood the test of the road!
Great interview TK :-) Since I started playing guitar as a kid, I've ALWAYS owned a Peavey amp of one kind or another. Not to mention a couple of Peavey guitars, as well as the countless Peavey P.A.s I've played through. You will NOT find a better company that makes such rugged, quality equipment for the money. Truly the "working musician's" company!!
What a great interview!! My first amp experience was a peavey bandit, 85 model I believe, and have owned many since from classic 50 2x12 ( which I still own ) to xxl, great amp for a solid state, to 6505+... wish I still had it! But peavey has been in my musical foundation from day 1!! Thanks TTK!!
MR Peavey i wanna say thank you sir, Peavey was known for great bass amps and heads..i played peavey untill Hartke came out but sir we had a great ride in the 70-80's Thank you !!
I admit this is a great interview King. Its always a pleasure to see see a head of a big company talk about passion for the music etc...Mr Peavey is somehow a role model, which he kept his company in house and built on passion. Another company comes to mind which is similar and thats Carvin.
I have a early 1980's collectors custom built guitar that has it's own custom built case that still looks brand new. It plays awesome and is the most cherished guitar I have ever owned !
I was just recently given an 85-88 year model Dyna-Bass 4 string with Super Ferrite pickups and passive or active mode. Pearl White and gold trim. It is my first owned bass but I play bass with my band and it is the most gorgeous sounding instrument I have ever listened to much less play. I will be using it to record with also. My first Peavey but definitely not my last. I feel Peavey is now my first and main gear/instrument choice for any equipment from now on.
Great interview ttk! I've been a huge of fan of Peavey's amplification ever since i got into guitar gear. I love my Peavey Vypyr. One day i will own a 6505, I always wanted one of those!
Wow, this is an amazing interview. Peavey is a really big name to me. I've always loved all of their products. Everything he said is true and it stretches way beyond that. The legendary Mr. Peavey! :)
An excellent interview. I love love love Peavey products. Absolutely the best gear for the best price. Hartley Peavey is a legend and a personal hero of mine. I can't wait for the new Vypyr Pro to hit the stores!
I love the reliability, low cost, and effectiveness of all Peavey products from amps, to guitars, to pro sound equipment, I happen to have all three (Peavey Predator EXP Plus, Peavey Deuce VT (1979), Peavey Classic 4x12 Cab, Peavey XR600E Powered Mixer and 2 15" BW Speakers. Peavey has me for life.
i love hearing innovators like this man talking ,peavey are great i have a peavey usa amp, didn't cost me a fortune but its got great tone and just keeps kicking
I love you Peavey!! I have a Peavey VTM 60 Halfstack from brand new in 1987 still perfect. And today I just picked a Vypyr Head 120 watts tube head the gold and black one and a Sanpera pedal and man I am so blown away by it. ^Thank You and mean Thank You awesome product!!!! I will say Im a Peavey guy you guy s are my favorite!!! Rock On \m/
Oh yeah I forgot to say probably one of my best playing guitar is my Limited Edition Peavey Vandenberg which sounds and plays incredible brother. Thank You Hartley Peavey and Thank You Lou TheToneKing Rock On \m/.
I own all of the Peavey Marvel Collectors edition Pick sets, as well as a leather Peavey Captain America guitar strap. Watching this video makes me glad I support his company, and has me more interested continuing to buy Peavey products. Awesome video TK, thank you for sharing and having the passion that you do.
I love you and your products especially down south we support you. I started my early dj career with Peavy amps and product.Im a country boy too so we stick together and we make things happen.Much success to you and the Tone King I have much love as a big fan of your chanmel.Im the same way you gotta love what you do To be successful.Im so glad to tell everybody to keep buying American made products and buy Peavy products they make Ameriacan musical products great and you can afford them and they work great.peace
Those Cs400 and Cs800 amplifiers were the best you could drag them and beat them up and they worked when nothing else would come to life.just check them specks out everybody back then used them.i had over10 of them.also speakers black widows and mixers and things.thank you sir your my hero.prace
I know Hartley isn't keen on reissues but I wish they would make an exception and do a reissue of the 1982 T60 guitar, I would be down the music store to buy one so fast there would be a sonic boom in my wake!!
Thats a good man. I had a t-40 and a t-60 when they came out. My guitar teacher, an old jazz guy wanted to trade for the t-60 right out. I miss it but stayed with the bass for years and later in life went back to the guitar. Those peavy amps were everywhere, PAs, TKO's, power amps. When I opened for Roy Orbison the bassist was using Peavy TKO's in biamp mode. For the first set all I got was mud,the roadies never turned on the treble side of his rig. The lesson is Peavy makes dependable gear and never to use someone elses rig when you are unfamiliar with it. Duh
Spectacular interview! I'm a happy subscriber because while there is so much content available to watch, I just keep coming back. You and PixxyLixx are just like hanging with old friends. EVERY TIME. I have a 6505+(my only amp) and a '94 Predator USA (among others). Every time I patch them together they thank me for being the owner. I don't need Mr. Peavey to pay me for an endorsement, he's paid me better through his products than his cash ever could.
Awesome interview TTK! Mr. Peavey is one gentleman that I would love to have the opportunity to talk with. You struck gold with the knowledge mined from this interview!
colored knob Mace I miss all the time. modded . Crafted In USA Predator DX, dbl br SC, with a Turbo switch. Genius. Studio Pro 112, round cab model Vypyr 15 bought for $49 at GC. Wife threw a fit. After a move to an apartment, lost without it. Peavey Factory Deserted almost makes me shed a tear.
Such an awesome guy...Mr. Peavey too...lol. Peavey is doing it right. I have a few Peavey amps and a Peavey USA guitar in my collection. I enjoy playing them...always reliable. Great interview, TTK!!
I love my peavey all tube stack. I'll never sell it. Unique tone and exactly what I was looking for. So many tone shaping options on the head and the speakers sound great and never fart out.
i love peavys. theyre super super under rated. and people always only associate them with 5150s (and 6505) but most every peavy ive played were kick ass. currently im using a peavey class 50/50 power amp with an axe fx ultra and it kicks ass.
Hartley is THE master of spin. I recall once when Hartley laid off 600 workers (give or take some number) in order to save money as business was slow and he was offshoring more and more to China, and also to extract more effort from the remaining workforce. About 2 1/2 months later he had to hire 200 people because he had whacked too many in that particular layoff. He issued a press release saying that Peavey was growing and needed to hire employees to add to the workforce! It took months to hire new workers, because most everyone in the Meridian MS. area had worked for Peavey at one time or another and wanted nothing more to do with the company. I served two years myself......
+cabeachguy94037 oh boohoo, so the guy tried to save his company! big deal! its very hard with todays global compitition to run a corp this size. be happy he hires ANYBODY, many guitar manu's just ship in imports and don't even HAVE an actual US adress

Paid $110 for my late-90's Peavey Predator and it is still one of my favorite guitars. A few years ago, I repainted it and installed new electronics. This guitar is as nice as any USA Fender Strat IMHO. It just won't ever have the same resale value.
I love All my Peavey goods. Started in the 70's with a Pacer, my music room now has a wall of Peavey guitar amps and cabinets. Musician head, TNT bass amp. ...Hell I just bought two new Peavey floor monitors, 1000w max each!!
That's a Like Tone King!. Great stories and philosophy from Mr Peavey. Folks starting out should check out Peavey's backline catalog before buying a cheap Chinese, sweat shop made amp that might blow in 2 years. Good solid quality.

wise words. great interview
That's a Like Tone King!. Great stories and philosophy from Mr Peavey. Folks starting out should check out Peavey's backline catalog before buying a cheap Chinese, sweat shop made amp that might blow in 2 years. Good solid quality.
I've always admired the smaller feeling Peavey guitar necks!
Now those are some serious eyebrows!
thank you tone king...
thank you for thanking me :-)
Im purchasing a peavey classic 30 new instead of used because of this interview!
I think peavy will make a comeback.
you get really good sound recording this videos which mic are you using? how do you do it? Thanks for the help
Great guy!
I enjoyed this
Excellent interview, very interesting. I have an old T-60 guitar, and love to play it.
Hartley Peavy kept live music alive. A Mentor of mine told me once, "Son, there will be three things left after nuclear war: 1. The bugs 2. Keith Richards 3. Peavy amplifiers
He sounds like a pleasure to chat with... :)
God Guns and Guitar's! Gotta love Mr. Peavey! \m/
Excellent,, thanks..
You can't kill a Peavy amp!!
Those 1980s - 1990s amps are tanks!!
Hartley's eyebrows are those of a villain
Yea for Hartley!
Just wish they would make more of there basses available to us lefties.
Why doesn't Peavey make a Transtube Pedal? They could charge $300 for it.
The best stuff Peavey made was the EVH Wolfgang and the 5150 amps.
+DH-81 Cirrus and Millenuim basses too
Don't forget the Mace (Lynnyrd Skynnyrd) & the Classic (2x12 combo, comparable to a Fender Twin).
Made in America !
I purchased one of the first-batch VYPYR amps, and...."issues, issues, issues". Ugh.
My peavey T series gutiar is the best electric I have ever played.
9:45 *cough* ORANGE *cough*
Orange use Celestions.
They also use the orange voice of the world speakers in some of there cabs such as the jim root cab and there crush pro series :)
Bugera
just imagine how much hearing loss that man is responsible for.. holy smokes

Lol old man wearing dentures that dont fit slapping his mouth and love those eyebrows to. Glad i still have my peavey vandenburg 88 model.
Thank you but i dont buy amps made in China, or Vietnam.
I only buy amps made in the Free World.
Although i have no problem buying the older USA made Peavey amps
They just closed the last of their USA production
Yeah, sad ☹️,eh?
Wtf.. I wish he would have approached Trump to help stay in USA. Be willing to bet he would have incentivized staying.
But peavey won’t answer my calls my amplifier blew out they won’t even answer my emails or call now I have no amplifier
Mr. Peavey seems to be a good man! Peace, Flood!
GD
He makes me wanna go ahead and sell my stuff and switch to Peavy!?!?
Hahahahaha
Shi.- but i love my Seniorita Cabronita
Can't dump my lil mamacita;)
But i might get me a Peavy amp.?!
Sad that the brand today is being destroyed with crap from the far east. But that's how it goes. Built like a tank
never played anything peavey that was bad i think only yamaha are the only other company that consistent
I'll never buy Peavy again, after seeing that episode of undercover boss. they don't give a shit about there employes
Peavey made a great PA in the day ,,early amps great clean sound but the distortion on those early models uuuuuugggghhh!!!horrible now yes great but then,,mmm

I've always hated the peavey practice amp sound of the bandit and related amps. So nasal.
Not a fan.
peavey usa is dead.
