I have my original machine shop project from 8th grade, a machinists hammer almost identical to yours. It served me well over the years, massaging parts to fit, and they are very useful.
Nice to see some vintage screwdrivers with plastic handles without the usual paint marks on them. Thanks for suggesting picking up one of those small ball peen (machinist) hammers. Terrific job on the restoration of the Williams, water pump pliers and thanks for sharing!

The pliers are beautiful, you probably made them nicer then when they were new. Williams wrenches are my favorite. Just a great tool. The blue handles are very pretty, I guess that may not be masculine. I had a Cornell that took the the bits. It was a great tool until I twisted it. Blue and green handles, it’s hard to decide. Pre-WWII. Before all the good steel went to the war effort. I wasn’t sold on the Plast-X at first but I’ve since come around. It’s pretty good stuff. 👍🏼😃
I was amazed at the sound of the steel! I have a machinist hammer exactly like the one you have. I used to play with it when I went to my Grandmothers house when I was a kid. God only knows how old it is. I'm 50 now. I have used that hammer for so many things and abused it when I was a kid. That cobalt blue screwdriver handle is amazing. I would grab that up in a second if I saw it.

I too have gotten Into wire wheeling old tools and then buffing them out. It's oddly satisfying renewing a simple tool. I noticed I tend to use them more around the shop once I've cleaned them up. Is it the shineiness, or the fact you saved an old tool? Maybe just the feel of it in your hand. Keep up the good work Scout crafter
I found a pair of the later Williams pliers in the pawn shop junk bin. I piled up all the good US made old crusty dirty tools. Guy said $3. I almost broke my wrist getting to the wallet quick enough.
When the Steel sounds like those Williams the Pitting is usually minimal......Hard to beat a Blue Handled Driver, I like it better than the Green ones.
Those pliers came out so well. They are beautiful. To think they could have gone to the dump by someone else makes me relieved you got them. I like your attitude: Go down to the shop, decide what tools you want to restore, and have fun doing it. Sounds like freedom to me.
Hi John, I use the screw holding driver for just one job-installing ceiling fan screws. I am up a ladder, holding the part with one hand and can start the screw with my other with one of those. I have dropped and lost so many screws that way that they are worth buying just for that application.
The thin pliers, though that one has a huge range of sizes, are good for inside case work, such as electrical boxes. I used a bent nose one for micrometer repair/recertification as a Gage Officer in a production facility.
Bucket O' Tools!! ya know that went right over the heads of 99.99% of the Boys eh!! I turn my hunk of RR Track upside down in the vise when I need something really flat to beat on for bigger pieces!!☻
How right you are, Scout. The thinner, the better quality. I got some German wrenches which don't look like much until you use them. I just cleaned up a pair of German pump pliers ( like those Williams ) that I was ready to toss and then I needed them. They aren't any toys regardless of how skimpy they look!

That cobalt blue Phillips screwdriver 🪛 cleaned up beautifully, it Looks awesome! That PlastX is some great stuff! Wow! You made that Williams 1520 pliers look like N.O.S., fantastic job!👍 Williams still makes the 1520 plier ,but looks more like a Channellock plier and is thicker also. It was great to see the Dake in action . That bolt was no match for the Dake 😆. Those thin pliers are nice to get in tight ,close quarter areas and the teeth, even though they were thin looked pretty beefy to grip on to a fastener.👍What a great tool to put back into service. Well again great video and can’t wait to see what you do on Friday. 😃👍👍

Beautiful pliers with a quality hard to match today and only ones made around the same time could maybe equal them. The quick-wedge screw holding drivers seem to be ever present at flea markets and such, though I do not recall seeing them at hardware stores or industrial supply jobbers from years past. Obviously though someone was using them, and now I am. Thanks again!

If you know anything about harmonics you can get all sorts of things to ring. I've even gotten a 2x4 to ring holding it 1/3 the way down on the narrow sides between my fingers and striking the lower portion. Keep on ringin'!
I prefer Williams tools to all other brands of tools EXCEPT for Snap-on hard handle screwdrivers. In fact I'm slowly building a complete collection of Williams for my day to day use.
The interesting grip on the Williams would be interesting to see dipped in plasti-dip. I bet he heavy structure of the grip will show thru the plasti-dip pretty well. 🤔🤔🤔
Nice restoration on those Williams. The one detail that was not mentioned was the teeth sharpness. Curious how sharp the factory had them when new and if there were obvious signs of wear that could have been improved with a triangle file.

Question... You corrected one misstatement, but routinely interchanged nut for screw, slip joint for groove joint, and wrench for pliers and visa versa. Is this a colloquialism of your region? I was a technical writer as a side gig, this required fastidious word accuracy. I am also married to a wordsmith. These dynamics cause me to cringe when folk make this type of error. You didn't dwell long enough on the screw starting screw drivers. I have used this style for 30 years and think that they are the best design ever put on the market. I own at least 3 brands, but I am certain that they were all made by the same manufacturer. I have 8 or 10 sizes and lengths and about 20 individual tools. They are almost an obsolete tool since slotted screws are almost obsolete. I keep mine for the occasional requirement and added more to the inventory since they are now very inexpensive on the used market. I am old enough to recognize their value, but my son's are uninterested. Slotted hardware is probably ancient technology to them.
It’s strange, when working on videos , thinking about shot composition, focus, talking into a screen, volume… It really messes with your vocabulary. I don’t make these mistakes in person. (Not as many). 😂👍

I've found, that an easy way to remove the nut from pliers, is to mount the nut in my vise, and then turn the whole pliers.
