- ( www.TFLcar.com ) The new 2013 VW Beetle TDI should be a fast car from 0-60 at a mile above sea level. Not only does the new Volkswagen Beetle have ton of torque but it also has a turbo to help make up for thinner air at higher altitude. In another fun and informative TFLcar video we take the newest Diesel Beetle to our test road to see just how fast it sprints to 50 MPH. However this video has a surprise twist that might not expect. Roman and Nathan let another TFLcar teammate do all of the heavy lifting to show you just how easy or hard it is to get the best performance from a new car.
I don't speak Russian but I speak Czech and I can sort of figure out what Andre is saying. Both are slavic languages and they have words that sound somewhat alike....somewhat.
The "Russian mechanic" was great, but even better was the two farm boys could understand Russian language lol
Andre is a great addition to the family! Keep up the great routine, guys!
Can you guys do a 0-60 in a turbo charged vehicle and actually let the turbo spool up a little? Thanks!
well, diesels are capble of getting 40-50 mpg easily, even in a light truck, so it's not as difficult to live with as a prius, where you need to drive efficiently to get 40 mpg or whatever, with a diesel you save money without being late to work
It's strange from a british perspective to see you guys talk positively about diesels, over here they are seen as the budget model. Guess forbidden fruits are always the sweetest.
i speak russian, it makes Tfl car just that much more awesome
Those Beetles are fast, our lift kit and some 29-inch off road tires would add some cajones to that sleeper. Great video.
That color is actually cool against that snowy backdrop -- but if I remember correctly, that color was a stock color on the original Beetles.
Yes, HP matters for high rev accelerations. But at lower revs, going uphill, with 4 people and some cargo - torque is what you need.
this is what I don't quite understand about Torque and Hp... I saw other reviews for the 2013 beetle tdi and the 2012 2.0l turbo... the tdi is rated 140hp/236lbft and the gasoline one is 200hp/207lbft, weight is around 300lb heavier for the TDI and both are DSG, so 0-60 come in 9.4 and 6.8 sec for the gasoline one... I guess HPs still matter for acceleration then ?
The color is cool, man.
Love this video,Nice touch adding Andre
The altitude is specially tough on a Diesel engine.
I like Andre's take since it makes me engage my head on a different level. What I would love to see is Andre review a Skoda, Lada, or if you guys could somehow source a Yugo? Man I remember how the seats folded away on that car, plus it would fit a milking goat in the back near perfectly. If you could somehow milk Nathan…I'd pay big money to see that, too.
i like having andre around but could you give some subtitles when he speaks? thanks.
More Andre. I can understand him too :)
My mom has that car and she was told by the dealership, that she should be careful and open the door slowly, cause the window sort of locks itself under the ridge of the door frame. Everytime you open the door, you should wait before pulling on the handle. I wonder how that works in winter, when, in my skoda fabia, i cant possibly open the window, cuz its frozen and practically stuck closed.
If a theoretical engine produces the same torque at both 1,000 and at 2,000 RPMs, the power output of that engine would be double at 2,000 RPMs compared to 1,000 RPMs. Engine power = RPMs x torque. Additional complexity is introduced because the torque produced by an engine is not constant, and varies according to engine RPM. Diesel engines generally provide less torque outside of their "peak torque" RPM range than gasoline engines. Based on peak torque alone it's impossible to know acceleration
Cože? Ty umíš česky? Mám radost. Koukám na vaše videa a mám vás chlapi fakt rád. Jste takoví poctiví a přestože asi máte malej budget, dáváte do toho všechno! Držim palce!!
hello flc, TDI engine on vw are nice - a hired driver showed it and an electric power diesel hooded to stick shift without the third pedal. the brake shift gas pedals has been gone. elle for green light
Always keeping us entertained, guys. Thanks!!
3:46 the window went up itself :D
People don't understand the affect atmospheric pressure has on the car's performance! (the @X above sea level part of the 0-62mph test)
In the description, you put 50 mph, just letting you guys know.
diesels are more popular in the uk because of the mileage per liter. uk sells fuel per liter while in the us is per gallon. that is why gas is so cheap here compared to there. us price for 1 gallon is about the same price for 1 liter there. 1 liter on diesel will probably get like 10+ miles, while 1 liter on petrol will get like 5+ miles. also, diesels are heavier engines even though they are smaller because they are mostly made from cast iron than aluminum.
i wud appreciate a real world testing in sea level as well coz, the difference is very much apparent, saw the escape ecoboost doin 0-60 in around 8.5 s as well as in 7.8 s, the new fusion u tested had a time of 8.28 and in some other websites it was around 7.6s at sea level and 7.6s in not fast when compared with accord v6 s 6.9s but fusion was around 200 pounds heavier so, much appreciate the sea level testing as well, anyway nice humor with andre the mechanic, keep the great funny work up!
This is the 150HP verison?
Does this 2013 Turbo diesel have a block heater?
Andre gets to drive. Yes.
Americans also drive much larger and heavier vehicles than most Brits and other Europeans do. That's where diesel engines are perfect.
Also, Andre rules!
Can you guys do a review on spetsnaz spec ops vehicle maneuvering training featuring andre? also any call of duty tips would help
Torque == "rotational force" and Force == ma. The more force you have, the more acceleration. Basic physics
.
If diesel engines had 6000rpm redline like gasoline engines, they would be outputting 300 horsepower. Unfortunately diesels "run out of steam" at 4000
.
Yh, its the economical option. The reason fuel is so expensive here is because they tax it so much, at the moment a litre of diesel is £1.45, about half of which is tax.
I don't believe it! I don't believe that after all this time the non-subtitled Russian bits are still entertaining.
BTW, aren't you supposed to short-shift a diesel at like 4000RPM to get faster runs?
hello flc, the diesel est mort sel was only for them there east of the atlantic. it is not a winning moment when it was for trucks most days. tears for clouds blue skies and space. elle for 3 2 1
I dont know about Europe. Luckily we have the english channel. With a few exceptions from budget carmakers, diesels are cheaper. It's usually because they're smaller engines. Take almost any mercedes, bmw, land rover, jeep, audi, jaguar etc. The diesels are usually the lowest spec for that particular model. The only reason they're popular here is the high cost of fuel (Almost £6pounds per US gallon) other than people who have to put durability over refinement.
I've driven a VW DSG when I test drove a Jetta GLI. I think dual-clutch transmissions tend to be an acquired taste. At city driving and low speeds, I thought it was herky-jerky. Does it tend to be that way?
Andre needs subtitles. Ha ha ha.
What are you talking about? Diesels are always more expensive than petrol in Europe. Even though not as much more as in the US.
Поздрави от България! :)
Roman were are your from originally?
Man it sounds really strange what you are telling me. So I checked bmw and mercedes uk sites and as expected you are wrong. Are you sure you're from the uk?
Andre. You should have a bottle of vodka in the cup holder!
Isn't 5000 rpm redline abit high for a diesel?
See if you could get the ... 2014 Volkswagen Touareg TDI R-Line
and i speak Polish, so i got most of what Andre was saying too :P Roman was being redundant today. Roman, take the day off :)
Andrew speaking with noticeable accent,he is not russian or living in US for to long?
Roman do you actually speak russian?
Very true!! I think British people would drive bigger cars if fuel wasnt so expensive, v8s are seen as a luxury here. Enjoy it while it lasts!
Torque is not an accurate indicator of acceleration in fixed ratio transmission cars.
Well, we still have the option to drive them. It's not the most economical obvious choice. If we could only get a diesel hybrid, then we'd be set. Although, I'm loving Tesla.
Андрей давно не бывал на родине - акцент очень сильный :))
Но все равно молоток! )) Больше Андрея!
More Andre!
Pozdrowienia z Polski :)
Zastanawiałem się z jakiego kraju pochodzisz ;)
dont worry, it's the same here. The only difference is because of gas price, that's why we are so attracted to diesel
New mustang does it as well. They lock ghosts into the car to control that.
Roman you soeakrussian?
There's nothing wrong or unmanly of that denim blue color
236lbft? My car only has 140lbft and it gets to 60 in 7 seconds..... the beetle doesn't have enough torque to compensate for being a big heavy boat. DSG is precise, good luck shifting better than it lol
I have my own idea’s If I ever own the 2015 VW Beetle TDI;
#Bank’s power-pack & computer-chip upgrade.
#Garret HP turbo. (90 psi, not the 💔30psi)
#Fuel-injection performance kit
K&N force-feeder air-intake kit.
A new exhaust kit & engine rebuild that strokes-it, shaves & port’s the cylinder head- all that muscle car s#!+😈
Dig the TDI, ditch the color
1:55 does it have the letters dsg on it? Andre: Uh, Duh!
yes he does
Does Andre speak English?
No. He only speaks Russian.
I love the TFL videos Roman, but the "Russian speaking mechanic" shtick is getting a little old in tooth. Can we see Andre speaking English on the videos at some point? I'd like to hear (and understand) his take on the vehicles as well.
Андрюха будет новым ведущим?
Andre is the same guy from NCIX Tech tips? (Camera man)
Cool video :)
Diesels are not fast, they rev too low and horsepower is for acceleration, torque is for overtaking.
Побольше Андрея!!!!
any chance you could just get andre to speak english we all know he dose because the hole russian thing is so old now
He likes that German engineering
Me neither...
LOL Turn on CC it's great.
Subtitles !!
Hahaha nice :) Andrei the mechanic. Should be a weekly feature.
as a Russian i understand everything but people who do not much be like listening to people speak Spanish. Russian of course does not sound nearly as funny as Spanish. anyhow not much fun when you dont understand a word.
I guess the altitude adds stupid to the video as well. What a waste of time.
Those Russians are used to diesels I trust him getting fastest time.
This is the most cyka blyat car review ever!
If this guy was Russian he wouldn't be saying "no no no"
He'd be saying "niet niet niet"
25k for this car? Meh .
Diesels suck; noisy and those damn DP filters yikes!
Like the car though but only a petrol one.
Manuel better
This is really funny
Удивили)
I love how butt hurt you guys get about not shifting right.
You put too much shoulder i to shifting, i bet you shift better when youre not thibking about it.
I thought he was Mexican
РУССКИЙ МЕХАНИК УЛЫБНУЛ....
Наконец-то на русском!)
Два еврея....прикольно.....
Speak Russian ***
Первый!=)
Hhhhhhhhhha
