      @@msbernse the pH probe will still work, but will shorten its life. There's a finite life in all pH probes due to how they work/discharge. The kcl solution is a potassium chloride solution that minimizes the discharging/working of the probe. It is worth the purchase.

    So.. don’t store the ph probe in r/o water .
    But you can stick it to the side of a res?

    • @growell
      @growell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The KCL solution the probe is stored in is what allows the probe to take readings. If the probe dries out it won't be able to take accurate readings anymore, which is why they recommend storing it with it's cap on. Just put a small amount of KCL solution in the cap and the probe will be fine. If you want to leave the probe in your tank taking a constant reading we recommend regularly calibrating the meter and soaking the probe in KCL.

      If you have pure r/o water in your tank you should obviously not use the ph meter in it. edit: At least not for more than a couple minutes.

      It doesn't. You can get pH Up & pH down here: www.growell.co.uk/nutrients-boosters/nutrient-ph-management/hydroponic-ph-up-down.html

    Can the ph probe assembly be completely submerged?

    • @growell
      @growell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you should be able to leave the probe in the tank, just make sure at least once a month you take it out and let it soak in KCL solution over night.

    • @growell

      This can be used to measure the pH and EC of any solution, but unfortunately it doesn't measure temperature. For more specific info check here: www.growell.co.uk/grow-room-tools/measuring-tools/bluelab-handheld-ph-cf-combo-meter-5898.html

      It sounds like your EC Probe needs to be cleaned. This video should have the information you need: th-cam.com/video/4jsRB7kt2Bc/w-d-xo.html

      @@growell I've had it for a year and i clean it after every use, cant see anything in the instructions on how to do it.
      I have the 2.77 ecc fluid, just seems strange that you can buy calibration fluid for it but no way of actually calibrating it, with it being out of sync does that mean my ph reading are wrong also, thanks for the reply

    • @growell
      @growell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This doesn't mean your pH readings are wrong necessarily.
      If the EC probe is clean and still not reading in the 2.77 EC range, it could be a fault with the unit. As your meter is only a year old it should still be in warranty. We'd recommend taking it back to the shop you bought it at they might be able to help, if it is broken under warranty you'll get a replacement unit.

      @growell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out this video directly from Bluelab for calibrating the EC probe: th-cam.com/video/2b0S_Q9rUZw/w-d-xo.html
      It covers how to calibrate to the correct value of EC, 500PPM and 700PPM.

  • @johnadams3800
    @johnadams3800 หลายเดือนก่อน

    These things suck. 2 of them, and less than a year, both are acting erratically, won't register ph... one just keeps giving me the "UR" message, and one of the EC meters spits out random values very rapidly. I've replaced the probe to rule that out, and nothing changes. Replaced batteries, cleaned the connections, and still nothing. And funny enough... even when they did work, i would get 2 different ph values fun the same probe, swapped and recalibrated between them. These units are far too expensive for what they are. And now, after 3 years, my guardian no longer works at all. Never again will i shell out the money for bluelab gear.... they just aren't what they used to be. I'll go with cheap Chinese stuff and just toss and replace every 6 months.

  • @kevinkeelan354
    @kevinkeelan354 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Storage solution, calibration solution and cleaning solution. All ridiculously over priced. Other ph meters are fine with salt water in the cap. I call bullshit on the storage and cleaning solutions.

    • @johnadams3800

      You goddamn right on that man. Bluelab are overrated, ill designed disposable garbage. I should know, I've probably sunk close to $2k onto their crap over the last 9 years... and now I've got 2 combo units that are less than a year old, and both are very erratic, if i can get them to work at all. Bluelab will never get anther dime from me. And all these companies wonder why everyone is switching to cheap Chinese shit... way cheaper. If I'm thing to be replacing a meter every 5 to 6 months, why spend 300 when i can spend 20? Hell with bluelab.
