      Acid to water - good rule of thumb. After a decade I’ve learned which acids behave when you pour in water - hydrochloric, almost no reaction. Nitric, a little heat is generated. Sulfuric, is dangerous. I never pour towards myself unless I’m making a video. It’s for the viewing pleasure of you, the viewer.

    Thank you Mr treetops for all these in-depth detail videos you are putting together for us. Really appreciated indeed. My H2SO4 Ag experiment was a total failure. On any tentative I could precipitate Silver Sulfate, either using salt or HCL. Anyways, I had all this waste solution. In stock pot bucks with Cu coils. Did not need much to drop Silver. I had the waste from the other two parallel experiments where I was extracting Ag foils from a few pounds I have, one using only HCL, and the other HCL ÷ H2O2. At least from the silver plated I am r recovering about 90% of the foil (visual approximation).
    One funny bit to close: from the H2SO4, I got 3 pure Silver beads, under 1 mm each 😀

    Cody'sLab did a series about seven years about the reactions you get by adding acid to water VS water to acid. It seemed like the key to getting a reaction was super heating the acid over the boiling point of water. Water alone can't get above 100c so this limits the strength of the reaction (unless you are pouring in boiling acid). Like many an adage it seems like this leaves out the most important details! The important factor is the temperature of the liquids involved instead of the order of operations.

    Good choice to continue dissolving the last of the metal. I'm not convinced it's just left over silver shot. Seems to be very hard to dissolve in dilute hot nitric. My guess is that it's a silver alloy with some PGMs. And the black powder is likely some PGM oxides. You're going to run into some interesting chemistry trying to separate anything other than the Palladium.
    Speaking of which, how are you going to test the purity of the Palladium DMG? There's bound to be more than just Palladium in that precipitate.

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DMG will drop platinum. And gold as well as palladium.

  • @snoozin99
    @snoozin99 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah that's a boat load of silver and I'm excited to how much palladium and silver come out of these; it looks like a good amount for you! Christmas is coming early to sreetips :) I was wondering I remember seeing you say that you had to use a horrible upload rate on cable, do you guys have internet available to you that like your daughters that uploads in like 35 minutes? I was curious if it was a funds issue, I'm thinking me and a few others would try to help you out in the next couple weeks to get you the better cable if it's available to you. I know I'd like to help but needing to wait till my payday deposit comes in. Love you and your content I think its just fabulous stuff. Also Sreetips don't let anyone get on your nerves about how you do things; if you done everything perfect they would still complain about it. I've been watching your videos a very long time now and your channel is growing by leaps and bounds; you totally deserve it for the massive amount of work you do to produce them and also just the cost of the chemicals and glassware is astounding all by themselves. So keep your chin up and ignore the guys/gals that woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Like you said you're doing this as a hobby; not as a professional. GOD Bless you and your family!

    Sreetips... Immediately stop using iron to cement your copper from nitric salts and watch one of the newer videos from NurdRage. He shows how to reclaim the copper as pure metal, and the pure nitric that you started with. This uses sulfuric acid, which you can make from root killer, and you get pure sulfuric back in the end. This is an extremely efficient process loop, but you will need to get yourself a distillation kit, with a laboratory-type heat mantle, or built a Bunsen burner (you need to get sulfuric acid over 640F to distill it).

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Buck, I’m so far behind on refining the precious metals that I have. I simply don’t have the time to devote to copper reclaiming. I can buy clean copper easily. It’s readily available and cheap. I’ve got two cases, six bottles each, of nitric acid. That should last me over a year. I can’t keep up with the gold and silver that my wife finds!

      Buck, I’ve never done it, but you can make nitric with over-the-counter chemicals. Check out “Philip Bender” on TH-cam. He has the best video that I’ve seen on how to make nitric acid - but it don’t look easy.

      @@sreetips I'll check that out. Thanks for the [sree]tip! The chemical method I tried before didn't turn out well, and the "...out of thin air" method is slow. It's one of those things that you just kinda run all the time for a slow trickle of the stuff. It goes well with the sulfuric reclamation method I previously mentioned, since it's all pace-matched to the scale.

    • @jasong8377
      @jasong8377 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The silver he refines is from various sources that is mostly 92.5 sterling so that being said you never know what other types of metal were in that stuff from the start these metals always carry over in some form or another that is the point of the silver cell this video series is from many rounds of processing baskets filters this is why the yield is high
