Paul Keating goes on an ‘abusive rant’ about Opposition’s nuclear energy plans

  • Sky News host Chris Kenny says former prime minister Paul Keating reverted to his other well-known characteristic, which is “sharp personal abuse” when discussing the nuclear energy debate.
Mr Keating has issued an explosive response to the Opposition’s nuclear energy plans, claiming it was driven by “manic denialism” of climate change.
“Keating’s statement about nuclear even had an abusive heading, labelling Peter Dutton a climate denialist and peddler of danger, making him sound like a pantomime villain,” Mr Kenny said.
“Really, Dutton is the first political leader, Liberal, National, Labor or Greens, to provide a plan to get to net zero that is actually plausible under proven technology, and Keating says that’s denialism?
“And the abusive rant continued ... this typical Keating invective just doesn’t make sense.”

Correct. The carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels are actually beneficial. Benefits include greening of the planet with increased agricultural yields (main effect) reduced winter heating costs, fewer deaths from hypothermia and postponement of the next glacial maximum.
The current mean annual surface temperature of Earth and the current atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration are suboptimal. Deaths from hypothermia greatly exceed those from heat stroke.

When we are talking about the number and size of these renewable facilities that is a very significant amount of production. Their life cycle moreover is about a third of a nuclear power plant and so the production life cycle must be undertaken multiple times in the life of a nuclear plant. If Bob was alive and young today, and entering politics, he would be joining the Libs or Nats, or an independent. The fact is that all leftist roads lead to communism. It'd be good if he could provide costings for it though wouldn't it? CSIRO reckons it'll cost 600 billion. When Labor legislated their renewables plan it lays out the cost; 122 billion. CSIRO also says that the seven nuclear reactors that have been proposed by Dutton would only amount to 4.8% of the total energy needed in Australia, and they won't be up and running until 2037 at the earliest. Tbh I agree with the spirit of what Keating was saying; the reason Dutton has decided to run this up the flag pole right now is to keep postponing the net-zero targets.

Oh what fun, the 'three stooges, Albo Bowen and Kean!

Keating said something else about Dutton a few years ago and god I always loved Dutton's response, 'Paul Keating inspired me to join the Liberal Party'. Just, perfect....
It's almost as if everyone forgets just how bad Keating was. I don't, and neither does my husband who ran a business at around the time interest rates were 18% during the 'recession we had to have'.
Even Hawke, for all you could say about him, was actually intelligent and had at least some common decency. He also could relate to the average Australian. Keating had none of that.
