Regardless of the wisdom of nuclear submarine deal undertaken by the present Government, when it comes to being “the worst deal in history” Paul Keating needs to look no further that his own incompetence when he was in office.
The ‘failed rock band manager’, seeking to call himself “The world’s greatest treasurer” needed to balance the budget. He did this by selling off the Commonwealth Bank, which robbed future governments of any control over interest rates, and thereby inflation. Initiating the boom-bust that we are enjoying today?
He then went on in 1985, to being instrumental in the ‘Negative Gearing’ legislation, with the naive belief that it would make more housing available, and boost the economy? In fact, by the figures of later reports, it had the very opposite effect, not only did it encourage states to end involvement in social housing, but 90 percent of the speculation investment went into established homes, and not new constructions.
The result was what we have today, with an estimated 150 thousand homeless, and soon to be rising as more homes are foreclosed on, and people are forced onto the streets?
When Paul Keating, now advisor to the CPC, China, talks about the “worst deal in history” he should consider the thousands of families and children his incompetence forced into poverty and ruined lives.? And the stresses that broke so many families apart.
Perhaps he should have an Oscar for the biggest failure in history?

@X Crockery The way you cling to the belief that China intends to attack one of its most important trading partners for no reason, resulting in no actual gains but huge losses for all parties involved demonstrates an absolute lack of understanding about Chinese history and philosophy.
The fundamental flaw behind the thinking of all China hawks is the same: they unconsciously superimpose Western imperialist history onto modern-day China.
This basic misunderstanding is a result of fear and paranoia, as well as an arrogant and stubborn refusal to actually engage with our Chinese neighbours in good faith.
Rather than acknowledge China's incredible progress, the hawks immediately think in terms of conquest and war. They betray their own desire to subjugate others, especially those of non-Anglo ethnicity. Basic psychology of projection.

Gosh, the questions that those journalists asked show either they have been so brainwashed by Murdoch's media or they have really convinced themselves of the oft repeated lies. Keating is indeed a true Australian and only think of what is best for Australia and not being a pawn of US or UK like what EU is.

@@artnull13 he puts Australia interests above USA, it's Australia First policy, if US navy wants to threaten China in Chinese coastal line the go ahead, Keating would applaud but only defend Australia coastal line, so you want to follow USA lead to contain China? @@lvjinbin28 no he doesn’t. *Keating put’s his own interest and CCP China’s above Australia* in his China first policy - that much is clear. That’s why he wants Australia to have a weak defence and security policy. Tell me why is China so scared of Australia having nuclear powered subs when they China already has them?
There’s also nothing in this agreement that says Australia has to follow the USA
You’ve already admitted that CCP China has been the aggressor in Korea and Vietnam - so thank you.
