- Sky News host Paul Murray breaks down the Pharmacy Guild’s backlash to the Albanese government’s vape ban.
“What an insight into the potential future of this country,” Mr Murray said.
“The place that you will get your vapes is the chemist.
“And then in places with much more liberal drug laws, what other things will your chemist eventually end up stocking?”
It's about tax.
💯 % spot on
tax the entire illegal drug trade of the trillion plus illegal drug trade and age restrict tax drugs for sale to adults
Yea why ban when there is an opportunity for some tax revenue.
My wife and I quit smoking in 2019 and 2017 respectively, moving to vaping. At the price of smokes in 2019, we saved on average about 10k a year EACH. Both our health got way better, less problems with breathing related illness. We don't smell, still get our habit serviced, obey all the rules of politeness etc etc etc.
It's all about tax. It's never been about health, it's just about tax.
billions a year they make off smokes in tax its a good business for them
This is so corrupt.
And taxing by the mass and bans its corrupt too,
Yeah they keep all the shit that’s killing people (tobacco, alcohol, vapes) legal and yet recreational cannabis growing and use is illegal. What a joke. 😂

100% agree. I felt better and didn't vape as much as I smoked. Plus I didn't smell of cigarettes and saved heaps.
Exactly, I started vaping 5 years ago after quitting smoking never went back or had the need to smoke
I feel so much better and it's better not smelling like a chimney 24/7
I have noticed when around people who are smoking it disgusts me the smell it's horrible...I keep thinking to myself that's how I used to smell
And I stopped driving with a Tesla 😂

This country is a prison.
I once served it.
Never again.
I’m not going to lie I vape, I used to smoke like a chimney but am using vaping as a way of gradually weaning myself off nicotine all together. This government is being big brother trying to turn people like myself into criminals, if I want to vape I should be able to. If I want to smoke I was allowed to. They are trying to micromanage my life as a consenting adult. I don’t think any sane adult wanted kids to have access to vapes, but guess what the black market is going to do it anyway like it does with any thing that is addictive. So many better ways this could have been handled yet that drongo Albo picks the hardest most ridiculous way ever and not only that he killed many businesses and forced copious amount of people back to cigarettes.

It doesnt make any sense, it's already illegal for the under age to drink and smoke. So why ban vaping for everyone?. Why not make it illegal for the under age to vape because that's the gist of issue?.
It already is, at least, it was. It used to be that you could buy vape products from vape shops as long as you were 18+. They couldn't sell nicotine, but nicotine was available to all adults via import from NZ, China, or the UK. I used to purchase raw nicotine from NZ, store it securely in my freezer, and add nicotine to nicotine-free juice that I'd buy from a legal vape shop. It was a loophole, but it allowed adults to access vaping nicotine, while keeping it out of the hands of kids. Kids still probably vaped, but they also smoked before vaping, at least there were barriers in the way that they'd have to try and get around, we didn't have disposables so they'd have to go to a vape shop and buy a device, a vape shop would ID them and refuse sale if they were underage because they were actually subject to regulation. They made the import of nicotine illegal and began siezing imports. This meant people who wanted nicotine had to turn to the black market, the black market has no regulation and no ID checks. Disposables also weren't popular prior to the ban, but they happen to be a convenient package to sell on the black market. Before, the problem the government had was "we don't like adults vaping because it's bad for them", so the government banned vaping. Now the government is asking "why are kids vaping so much and why are disposable vapes littering the streets and waterways???". They created the problem. Should have just kept it the way it was, or even better, bought in the system NZ had.
most road accidents and acts of violence are caused by vapes. Wait, no that's alcohol
So do you want alcohol banned?
@@MattSmith8591 His point is, they never will ban alcohol OR smoking cigs no matter the risks associated with it because its far too profitable.. Its not about anything other than money.. Taxing something they already collect tax on, paid for by money you paid tax on earning..

Dear Mark Butler,
I hope this message reaches you despite the challenging circumstances.
I am deeply disappointed by the recent decision to proceed with the vaping ban in Australia,
especially in light of the significant concerns raised by experts and health professionals, including myself.
As of July 1st, all vape shops across the country have been forced to close, leaving thousands of people without jobs.
This outcome was avoidable had there been a willingness to listen to evidence and consider harm reduction strategies rather than an outright prohibition.
It's disheartening to see that the ban was only passed with the support of the Green Party, whose influence led to a watered-down version of the legislation.
While I understand the political dynamics at play, it is clear that this compromise does little to address the fundamental flaws in the ban itself.
The reasoning behind the ban, purportedly to protect children, rings hollow when weighed against the economic devastation and loss of harm reduction options for adults.
It is evident to many that this decision was driven more by emotional appeals than by a rational assessment of the evidence and potential consequences.
Australia now faces a situation where a thriving industry has been dismantled overnight, with no clear benefit to public health.
The opposition has already pledged to reverse this decision upon taking office, underscoring the lack of consensus and foresight in your government's approach.
As someone who has benefited from vaping as a tobacco alternative for the past 15 years, I am personally affected by this shortsighted policy.
There were viable alternatives, such as regulation and taxation, that could have both supported the industry and contributed positively to public health outcomes.
I urge you and your colleagues to reconsider this decision before irreparable damage is done.
It is not too late to acknowledge the unintended consequences and seek a more balanced approach that respects the rights of adults,
to choose harm reduction strategies while protecting youth through effective regulation.
Please reflect on the broader implications of this ban and consider the opportunity to rectify this decision in the interests of public health,
economic stability, and personal freedom.
Sincerely,
____________

It would be the nicotine that is under script, nothing else in the vaping liquids in a controlled substance, therefore no legal requirements.
This idea has been tossed around for some time now, nothing new.
@@fredflintstone6729 I think they're wanting to sell actual juice that they'll limit on nic content and flavour selection, not raw nicotine. It shouldn't be behind a script anyway, I like nicotine, I'm an adult, I can choose to drink, smoke, I can buy caffeine from a servo, why can't I decide I just want to be able to use nicotine and make my own choices how I consume it? The same goes for smokeless tobacco products too, I used to like snus when I lived overseas, can't get that here though. They just say it's all as bad as smoking and therefore cigs are the only option you should have, it makes no sense to me. I wouldn't argue any method of consuming nicotine is healthy, but the government seems to want to insinuate that they're all every bit as bad as smoking, which is a lie. We can evaluate risk on a scale, it doesn't need to just be a 1 or a 0, either it's 100% safe or it's guaranteed instant cancer. I don't understand this attitude our gov seems to have.
I wish they'd just left it the way it was, where we could freely import nicotine products from new zealand without a script, it seemed to keep a lid on the black market too, because as soon as that ban happened the under the counter service station disposables seemed to explode in popularity.

I was making my vape juice for 2.5 cents/mL, now THEY want to restrict my choices to now have to buy it for 50 cents/mL - that's 20x more expensive than it needs to be - 20x more expensive than it should be made available to us for... and that's what it's all about.
It's not about health or the environment... hell, the majority of products they're attempting to restrict us to are disposable units, it's about bleeding money out of us.
Since quitting cigarettes and now vaping instead, I got my health back... To achieve that, it cost me 70 cents/day, now it could potentially cost me $15/day... if I buy their putrid shit, $30/day if I purchase their not-as-putrid shit... it's now cheaper to smoke ciggies!!! They're making vaping more expensive than cigarettes!!! And at least when I make it myself, I know what's in it, the shit you get from the chemists, you can taste the toxicity in 'em... no thank you...
What a fucking joke.
I’m an adult I don’t need the government making decisions for me now what do I do
Kids always got their disposable vapes from the Black Market. That won't change. This accomplishes nothing.
On behalf of myself and my Hells Angel associates I sincerely say thank you to the Australian Labor government for placing Australian tobacco policie in our capable hands.
Well you’ll be getting my money for vaping products from now on my friend 👍🏻
There are laws that exist regarding the sale of vapes to under 18 yr olds. Instead of enforcing existing laws, they create new authoritarian laws. Great stuff. Maybe they can start selling cigs and alcohol in pharmacies too.
It's basically water vapor.
I'm surprised they just didn't tax it more!
if its not goverments peddling it/cashing in on it,, !!!BAN IT!!!
that's what this is about, they need to gain control of the market in order to tax the hell out of it!
actually iso-propyl glycerol vapour is the carrier molecule and its dodgy ho w bad this stuff is to breathe all the time
@@peterolsen9131 look at people in the smoke machine industry hows their health?
@@peterolsen9131 70% vegetable glycerine, 30% alcohol. A mL a day.
Where are the illnesses, where are the deaths? It's been 20+ years now.
Meanwhile _over 400,000 deaths from tobacco,_ and far more cases of serious illness costing taxpayers and the health care system billions.
Now do your research on who actually makes the vapes you get from the chemist
Liquid nicotine has to come from somewhere
@@VapeAucan be synthesised from things other than tobacco genius
@@Mike_Oxlong07 Australia did that because it wasn't tobacco but it's worse, vape shops use to have no-nic
@@VapeAu I know, I'm Australian. You can get zero tobacco nicotine liquid though. It's synthesised from plants that also contain trace elements of nicotine. Iirc you had to get it from NZ though
I think you found the real reason
Can't cut into cigarette taxes
Over $8 Billion per year.
I vape, so does my wife and my kids.
A family that vape together, stay together. It's crazy
