    Between Risens and Hazards Sunbreak really has set the bar that I hope future games can reach when it comes to having harder versions of monsters. Sunbreak's been doing super good with this stuff.

      Yeah adding difficulty by making move sets more complex and not just buffing monster HP and damage is great. And as demonstrated by Hazards, you don't even need to give them new moves, just give them more varied combo routes with the moves they already have.

    Hazard quests are amazing, they are just so fun and equally difficult and feel so rewarding once completed

      Mh is not all about making builds sometimes it's about the experience not the reward

      @@jrpgnation6375 you forget that MH is mostly an action game series, fighting EX monsters are the pinnacle of your skill from the moment you started fighting them in low rank all the way to G/Master rank and it’s the best way to see if you’re still on your toes. Imo it’s the perfect way to end off a grind In an MH game, this is why I love Deviants so much in GU…

      ​​@@RXH14 except EX deviants give rewards, being a new pigment and the ability to transmog their armor. hazards award quite literally nothing outside of "yes, i beat this thing". not to say hazards are bad, as i like them, but they could at least have a reward. it's similar to apex monsters in base rise as in they're fun to fight but there is next to no reason to do so

    I think that scorned magnamalo HAS TO get a hazard. His fight is already amazing but a harder version would be perfection.

    I think this is more of a concept that major Capcom games follow, higher difficulties to them doesn't just mean inflated numbers, they sometimes alter the level design such as with Resident Evil or with Devil May Cry all enemy encounters are remixed, it's a brilliant thing that shows they respect the players investment into their games & gives them the full potential of their games, higher difficulties aren't an afterthought like with many other games & that's part of why I love Capcom games so much.

    As an old school Tigrex fan, it would be nice if they gave him back his aggro and full power roar, Rise iteration of tigy is like a kitten compared to his 3DS versions. Maybe even give him Grimclaws ground pound where it creates a massive explosion as his super move.

      Honest to god they need to let us augment that armour. I understood that at the time of TU1 it would have been a bit too strong but now the armour is basically USELESS!

    I need to see a Hazard quest for Garangolm and Goss Harag. It's probably not gonna happen, but I really wanna see these monsters balanced around endgame gear

    Honestly, I think the metal Rath's can be fantastic Hazard difficulty candidates. Silver Rathalos in particular is already an incredible fight imo, so to see it juiced up even further would be great

      That's not how flagship works. A flagship has to be a new monster introduced in a new game. So for example if MH 6 brings back underwater combat most likely the flagship of that game would be a new water Monster. (Likely a Leviathan or Piscine wyvern)

    That sound really cool tbh. It is too little too late for me and I haven't even tried Amatsu yet. At least this system gives me confidence for MH6.

    The moveset changes are the key, stat increases alone suck as a difficulty increase. Also, idk if they do or not, but there should be some unique reward like a layered armour for these tougher quests. It just makes it feel more complete when there is a reward at the end

    This is a really good, well crafted, and thorough video that explains your points really well, and you're talking about an aspect of Sunbreak that has gone very underappreciated and underdiscussed. I think the comparison to the HC monsters is pretty accurate. I think more than anything I'd want to see a hazard gaismagorm. I think it's a bit odd that he hasn't had an event quest and I really wish he was more difficult, but I'll take anything, the Hazard monsters are very good

      @@Amatsu_storm_approach what is this in reference to??? sure, Hazard quests won’t completely overhaul a monster, but altering AI in a way that changes entire combos, speeds and slows down telegraphs and attack animations, and especially giving monsters shit like Risen Shagaru’s fake-out double wingarm slam… Hazards do make a difference, it’s just that Hazard Rajang is barley any different, and Rise Rajang is doo doo trash

    Praying we get Hazard Flaming Espinas soon, The espinas' are some of my favorite fights in Sunbreak and I was incredibly disappointed by the hazard Rajang having the most minimal of changes and I feel they need to redeem themselves for that.

    I have a pretty similar feeling with those as the more simple hazard quests like flamespinas and rajang.

    Bombs iver gogmazios has him start in phase 2, so when he starts flying you might not have gotten enough binders to stop him from wrecking shop at that point

    Personally i think that outside of rajang, every hazard monster so far should've been how they were from the start, especially violet since he spends less time being way too far away from your hunter.
    Maybe they could've given flaming espinas a smoother transition to his charge though

    I totally agree that Hazards should’ve been the default difficulty, part of what makes fights fun is how tough it is.
    Rise had the potential to be the most batshit insane game in terms of difficulty in my opinion, and it would’ve been interesting if we had seen that. Really they should’ve just fix the tracking problem it had at launch or actually make the monsters faster. In a game where combos flow into each other much faster and rolling is faster, the monsters haven’t really been sped up by that much in my opinion.

    frontier actually had two more special harder quests on top of hardcore. there were zenith monsters, which have certain body parts bigger and have new moves, and there are peerless monsters, which kill you 5 seconds into the fight.

    It could be a Malzeno variant for the new monster. It's chest bears the same resemblance as Malzeno's. Same with it's claw, just without the extra fluff that's there. The wings are also the same, but without the normal tearing that Malzeno has

    I know its kind of demanding and maybe a little redundant, but I'd love hazard versions of Allmother, Ibushi, and Gaismagorm. I don't really care about difficulty, I just like seeing monsters get moveset changes and alterations. I love watching animations. 👁👁

    Hazard Monsters are one of two things:
    Significant reworks to moves and chains (Violet, Lucent)
    Or removing limiters and buffing moves to make them NIGHTMARISH (Flaming Espinas)
    What a fucking brilliant choice across the board.

    There's two Hazard Quests that Sunbreak lacked - a Hazard Amatsu that was apparently cut at the last minute (it's apparently hiding in the game's data), and a Hazard Gaismagorm - the one we have just can't handle Anomaly 241+ endgame sets well. All of the other Hazards were good, or even great. The changes to many of them were more subtle, I think.
    But I really enjoyed the Risens a lot more. In 4U, Elders never really got upgraded other than the odd "Super" event quest versions that just had more health and did more damage, as they did in GenU - even while other monsters got Frenzied/Apex and Hyper versions. I never played Worldborne, so I can't say anything about the Tempered and Arch-Tempered Elders. The Risens, on the other hand, were a real step up.
    I loved how they all seemed like truly diabolical versions of their base selves. Risen Chameleos seemed to revel in spread its poison; Risen Teostra was a mad tyrant that incinerated all with its fire as it abused both its blast and fire abilities; Risen Kushala was a raging storm that even poison couldn't truly slow down; Risen Valstrax was driven so insane by the combined pain of his damaged Dragon sac and the Qurio that he would burn down the world with its Dragon element; and Risen Shagaru was the truest form of a fallen angel, even more than Gaismagorm itself.

    Hazard Espinas was released two weeks ago? I thought the quest was released yesterday (Wednesday May 24th). Maybe the people that run the Monster Hunter Twitter forgot to advertise it before yesterday? The developer run is supposed to be released soon too. 🤔

    Wait are Apex Diablos, Mizu, and Zinogre in the anomaly pool? I know that Arzuros, Rathian, and Rathalos show up. But I've never seen those three.

      For every other platform I think it's only Arzuros and Rathian right now.

      Yeah hacks. It was added in TU4 but the event hasn't officially released yet.

    Hence the Reason I'm highly disappointed with Special Investigations.... Rather than being creative and upping the danger-factor of the hunt Capcom relied on raw HP and damagr buff to induce more challenge which imho is the laziest way to do it...
    Here are some ideas and easy way to make Special Investigations interesting:
    1. Monsters will never leave Delirious mode.. You can topple them yes but they will return as soon as they stand back up.. -Doesn't require any insane balancing...
    2. Removing spiribirds in the map ala "Gathering of the Qurio Quest".. 150 HP on lvl300 monsters can be quite scary at times and can indeed punish you if you're not careful...
    3. Monsters are almost immune to trap / flash bomb to avoid cheesing.... Seriously Non-Elder dragons are a joke when you Spam Traps on them..
    4. They gain a new mode where for a brief moment their Attack Animation will be even Faster... Now this will require a bit more resource from capcom since they need to balance stuff but it will be a nice addition and investment imho..
    #1-3 doesn't require any new assets or heavy work-load for Capcom to implement... To balance things out as well the HP scaling and Damage can be slightly reduced compared to the current Special Investigations...

    I love the hazards, but they may be even easier to make than you say because the hazards could have been created during regular development but when tested they were found to be harder than expected so they were saved for later. The normal version we play could have been the tuned down version that would later become the hazard version. Of course this is all theory but it’s possible!!
    “But sir this lucent is too difficult!” “ ahh ok, we can leave that for the hazard quests!”

      I made this really sick mixed set some time ago using Risen Chameleos and Gold Rathian pieces that let's me buff up whenever I evade. I get status trigger, adrenaline rush and bladescale hone, and combine that with evasion+5, Buildup boost, Foray and more I'm effectively just dodging through everything and never sharpening.
      TU5's new additions means the set can be optimised even further, but I haven't done much anomaly grinding to do so just yet. Generally I don't use mixed sets unless I see a really cool opportunity like this one.

    Aren't special investigations similar to hazard quest too? I'm surprised you didn't mention them in this video.

      I haven't unlocked any of them because I haven't had the chance to do much anomaly grinding lmao.
      Real talk though; they increase the size of explosions and projectiles but otherwise aren't so different. Hazards are much more substantial. But perhaps it would have been better to mention them. Oh well.

      @@HeavyWings I haven't done them yet either but they definitely have different combos I remember that special investigation risen crimson glow after its bigspin attack instead of doing 1 super trust does 2 it also seems like they move faster and have different combo routes I haven't fought one yet but I have seen a few speed runners fight them so that's how I know this.

      Special Investigations have all the changes from before, now having all the bigger AOE and projectiles.
      So technically they have all the same changes as everyother Special Investigation.

      Hazard Quests are a Title Update 4 addition for Sunbreak, so they're gonna be added to Playstation and Xbox sometime in the summer I think.

    before i watch this video i want to say this
    yes hazard quest are much more fun and satisfying than normal hunts but imo they should have been the normal hunt
    they are not that much harder in terms of moves they just have cooler combos that should have been there from the start imo
    and a hazard quest should be the AT level hard to satisfy the people who want super hard quests
    they will have a lot of HP, damage, speed but they will also have 2/3 new moves
    1 new super nova
    and 1/2 normal
    maybe u have the same idea maybe not
    but imo base rise and base sunbreak(not counting TU) were too easy its almost a spam your attacks on the target to kill them
    title updates felt like how it feels to fight tigrex and narga from world a challenge spike that is satisfying but that difficulty should have been there for most monsters with MR 4 stars and a above
    and the title updates should be for hard quests
    yeah sure rajang in world had a little too big of a difficulty spike for the first TU but man it felt SO satisfying finally beating it and i never felt that with rise which makes me sad because that is my fav part of MH 2nd to the ecology and sadly rise wasnt as good as the older titles in both of them but focused on the hunters moves which felt less satisfying for me but most people love that which i totally understand
    to summarize what im trying to say:
    im a bit sad rise simply focused on the hunters moves while skipping the ecolgy/details and making the quest easier for the sake of accessibility and while hazard quests fix that i would MUCH rather if the difficulty was like world/borne BUT hunters that are not too good can utilize the environment to make the hunt easier (but it will take longer luring the monsters to traps/ a area that they are not effective at like velk in a hot area should be weaker than in a cold area
    you satisfy the difficulty goblins and you satisfy the casual hunters and im a mix of both i love using the environment and i love hard quests

    My honest opinion is that advanced quests should be what hazard quests are. The name advanced implies you need experience with the monster beforehand if you want to stand a chance at beating it. Therefore, you can do that by changing the movesets just like hazard quests do.

    About flaming Espinas. You forgot or don't know this but after he nuke you. He can stay in the air and fire gigantic ball of dead explosion. So assuming you dodged it first charge up nuke. There second one coming your way to finish the job.

    I really like the hazards because of the difficulty. Despite rise being my first mh ive found both base game and sunbreak incredibly easy (maybe im carried by 700 hunts in lance). But with all the new harder stuff like the risen shagaru and valstrax and the hazards (to a certain extent) I feel like Im in genuine threat of triple carting, making the game a lot more fun. Just wish they would stop putting content on rise already lol, got world recently and after rise finishes gonna hop onto that and start lancing there XD

      Well, Lance is fairly easy to master. There will always be a difference between a good Lancer and a Speedrunner Lancer, of course, but it's incredibly easy to stay alive and deal damage thanks to the amazing defensive potential of Guard Dash (or Guard Dash + generic Counter in World). Even mastering Instablock takes no effort because it's so easy to perform in Sunbreak.
      Not saying that being a Lance main invalidates your success or somesuch, don't get me wrong. I am just answering your question and, yes, as a Lance main, you rarely die if you know how to play the weapon at least somewhat well, which is not hard to do at all.

      A few event hazards give you guaranteed crowns and maybe some melding materials (like the garangolm one), but otherwise hazards are mostly just there to give a unique challenge to the people who want one.

    i think iceborne needed a little tweaking
    sunbreak should have not made it so u need MR 100+ to fight risens 100 is enough any more than that is simply annoying
    iceborne should have not made fatalis MR 24 but it should have been MR 50 and you needed to get 1 of ur guiding lands areas to level 7 first
    alatreon you would need to get it to level 5 and MR 50
    raging brach you would need 2 level 3 and MR 30
    the rest are ok as they are

    werent instant charges one of the biggest complaints about older mh games? why is hazard flaming espinas being praised for bringing this back
    edit: i found hazard rajang to be extremely disappointing as it seemed no different from normal rajang in any way and didn't provide any difficulty. hazard monsters are fun but hazard rajang just felt like a normal rajang

      Thats because now its used in patterns still, (hazard flaming), back then, it was straight up trash, like Yian Garuga doing an instant charge at anytime it was capable of, AND it was frame 1 AND cancelable by the monster, so if it hit you, Yian doesn't keep charging, oh no, he just straight up gets to animation cancel his charge into literally anything else, sometimes even doing 3 insta charges back to back through animation cancels if your very close to him. It looked like stutter stepping with a character by very quickly changing the direction of the analog stick to change directions.

    Yeah…I don’t find hazard quests to be fun due to the damage and health buff it just makes the fight feel bloated and extends the fight making certain annoying aspects about the monster more prominent. I’ve beaten but it’s not something I’m gonna be returning to when even 1000+ defense armor is nothing more than cardboard. I know I’m probably alone on this though.

    Sunbreak (the expansion) was mostly awful overall both conceptually and in execution IMO, but I'm entirely happy woth how they handled hazard monsters and I hope they continue to do things like this in future games, hopefully for as many monsters as possible.

    Hazard quests are just the usual lazy tactics by Capcom, trimmed down the intended difficulty to a vanilla one as the normal quests then call it a stronger version. Remember when the ver 1.0 rise had a hr lock at hr7 and not giving you the four elder dragons?

      You literally just contradicted yourself.... How are you gonna call them "lazy" when they went the extra mile to actually differ the monster's movesets? Do you think they had these on ice and intended to release them as the base monster but they then decided to take these moves away and repackage the original versions of the monsters as "hazards" because that still sounds like way more work and is also an argument appealing to ignorance here, again you contradicted yourself, made a ridiculous assertion etc, need I tell you that the hazard versions of these hazard monsters weren't in the game's data until the update before the releases of these quests? aka we didn't have hazard violet Mizu's data in the game until Tu4 released...

      I agree. I would rather have the difficulty of the monsters ramped up from the start. The extra space could've been used to add more monsters. The roster of monsters in sunbreak is pretty boring.
