Yeah bro.. never do what other people want or should tell you to do. Do what makes you happy and comfortable. In the end, it’s all about your decisions. BRZ will rise again.
It’s not that the motors can’t handle that powers. The blocks can hold 500hp easy it’s the pistons and internals that are the weak point on them. The best thing I can recommend is getting another stock block but with forged internals. That’s probably the cheapest yet affordable solution you could have. If you plan on using the turbo parts send them to get inspected and deep cleaned because if your oil pan looks like that there’s a 100% guarantee that stuff made it to your turbo oil lines and possibly your pvc lines.
This is sound advice, I agree, the affordable yet reliable option is stock block built internals. But I like the idea of having a built block, leaves room for future power gains reliably.
@estebanalicea3591 oh without a doubt man. I have a built ej257 block rated for 700hp from outfront. I’m making about 500hp on e85 with my set up if Chris can afford that which I’m sure he can id definitely recommend it just so he has the peace of mind knowing the motor will handle the power.
That part about you not doing what others are doing and documenting the bullshit that happens because of it is huge. That's what 99% of modern car TH-camrs lack nowadays, the willingness to push the limit so we find out what that limit is, no matter the outcome. Good shit man.

The FA 20 was known for dropping rocker arms when over revving as the camshaft and spring tension is the only thing holding them in. Happened to me, potential cause perhaps? I see the same design used in that part of this engine.

It's great what you've accomplished with the 2nd gen platform and sharing it with us on your channel. I'll be getting a GR86 soon myself. Thank you. I do have a question though. I've always thought a rev limiter is just that. Slipping clutch or not, once the RPM reaches the limiter, that's as high as it will go. The only way an engine can exceed an RPM limit is by a mechanical means of forcing it to do so, such as accidentally shifting into a lower gear that exceeds the engines mechanical limits (e.g. money shift). I've only owned and driven manual cars, pickups, and SUVs for roughly 25 years now, so I have a bit of experience.
Idk man ik Austin’s works great but like you said you’re the only 2. If you’re going through ALL this effort build at least the pistons. They’re not too expensive and for the sake of the next owners longevity it’s worth it.

Blowing the engine is just a sign you outgrew the stock engine internals. Time to beef it up to handle that turbo. Get an ACT clutch. Come back stronger and never give in. Haters gonna hate. Let them. Keep it going. Grow from this. 👍👍

That clutch looks suspiciously alright. Are you sure the clutch was 100% slipping? The only reason I ask is because I also have a turbo 23 brz on ecutek tune and I was running into an issue recently where I also thought my clutch was slipping. I would punch it in 3rd or 4th and the revs would suddenly climb and then settle which immediately made me think my clutch was slipping. Someone pointed out the traction control plays funny with the ecutek tune when you are in normal mode (not track mode). When I switched to track mode it runs like normal. Just food for thought. I still think your car over boosted like crazy but it may have been the tune and not a slipping clutch.

Man i don’t think people are talking shit bro. Unfortunately man we all kind of expected this. The thing is all the TH-camrs kind of have the same method of modifying a car. Full bolt on but hardly ever take the engine to a machine shop. I been working on my cars and sometimes it takes years to get them where they are. But you guys full bolt on after a few months or year and almost everytime you guys blow the engine because the engine has to go to a machine shop. Plus everything else like clutch and all that has to be made for the power. It’s a reason Tj Hunt, and Dustin have gone into Motorsport programs because they have blown enough engines to understand that it’s a lot more to this. If i were you before buying another subi engine, look into a LS platform. You get the same power without any issues. But again i love your content and do what makes you happy bro.
