Thanks SuperDell, I know that this is a old video but so is my Shield. I added a 1TB external HD years ago and suddenly was getting a low memory message. Watching your video showed me how to format and send files to the external hard drive now I'm back in business.

What do you suggest as a compatible usb hub to use for the older Nvidia Shield pro? As man usb ports as can do so later can add keyboard etc. My goal is to add a couple 1T external hard drives that I already own to stream movies locally, along w/adding a usb stick, keyboard etc Possibly set up to run plex off the external connected hard drives if possible. My pc unit fried so trying to get around it using external drives that were previously connected to pc somehow.

Superdell- Thx for this, I am a new Shield Pro owner and was doing the USB stick wrong. I didnt choose the mirgate NOW, I kept clicking later and adding all the apps manually, I guess I wasnt making it internal. Still a huge learning curve with this Shield but a real thrill.

I expanded my internal storage to a seagate 1 Terabyte and it worked for about two weeks and it is not working any more. Under storage and reset it just reads "Seagate USB Not Connected". Now nothing is recognized in EX file explore or Plex. All TH-cam apps also do not open. The hard drive light is still on and it is spinning, could it be broken?
Hey, Dell! Love your channel! I have a question for you: are there any barriers to using USB hubs on an nVidia Shield? For instance, could I plug a mouse, a keyboard and the Shield's game controller into one hub, plug three USB sticks into a second hub, and have everything working properly at the same time?
Hi David, Yes, you can add hubs to the shield. I use one now to add the keyboard and mouse to it. The shield is a beast

What if i want to migrate the data on the 32gb external memory back to the internal drive os memory and want to increase from 32 to 128 Gb of external storage how can you do that so you dont lose any data that was on the internal memory, do i have to migrate back the data to the inernal memory?? Dell i purchased a BIGGER HARD DRIVE FOR THE SHIELD BUT ALREADY had a smaller 1 hooked up i want to send everything to the new 1 without erasing anything i was gonna send it back to the shield but i cant as i have to much on it

Hi, I added the WD My passport 1gig portable drive to the shield to use as internal storage and some people are saying that for external drive like that it's not good to be on all the time and that I would be better off using it as external storage, and to add ssd drive to be used as internal adapted storage. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you

P.s noticed you formatting but what if the stuff on the drive is the stuff you want to watch on the nvidia sheild? I already have my drive with the stuff on it.

Question: I was watching someone else's tutorial on this, and I believe instead of having them separate, the Internal and External Storage, he had it put them together.....please advise, what are ur thoughts on that? Also, the way you installed yours as pure Storage, how do you use it, I mean, I guess the Shield must give you an option of where u want to put something, right? OR can you just use what it comes with and when space runs out it will auto store everything on the external???

I have a 128 sd card in my nvidia shield (Fill) I want switch it out for a 1Tb. how do I transfer everything on my sd to the new one.
Why do I continue to get shield storage spaces too low messages across my screen although I've added a 2 TB SSD? The system should be recognized in the SSD and utilizing that space correct? Please help
The issue I have is when I add external HDD and mount it. Still every time I install a new App from Playstore it only gives the option to install it to the internal. And then its full fill up too fast. The extrenal HDD when mounted at least lets me save vids and roms to it just not apps.
Question, I have a usb 3.1 flash drive with 512GB that does 200mb/sec but it is taking so long to move the data from the internal storage. What am I doing wrong?

Does anyone know if I can have both an extended internal storage and extended external storage hooked up at the same time?
I tried using a couple of different USB flash drives and tried formatting them on my pc to both ntfs and exfat but so far haven't had much luck with integrating it into the nvidia storage because erase and format doesn't come up. Am I doing something wrong or is the nvidia just not allowing me to do it with this drive. I ordered a sata to usb 3.0 cable that I will try to use with my old laptop ssd and see if that works.
Does it matter what brand of storage drive use for storage.
Please help i connected 8tb of external hd in shield pro but it shows 80gb so i thought its limit is 5tb which i have previously connected and is working great but now my 8tb is locked at 80gb when connecting to Pc even after formating..😢

How do I set up storage so that once it’s recognized and I have media on it, I can send the files to my server from my shield storage I added earlier
Hello SuperDell when I try to open Kodi I'm getting a waiting for external storage. When I setup my Shield a few years ago I set it up using a sandisk usb 3.0 128 GB. It's very warm to the touch so I'm assuming it needs to be replaced so I have a WD Elements portable storage 500gb. Do I have to reset the shield back to factory setting and start all over? Thanks
I want to have separate the external and internal showing not combine the internal and external drive into one drive. How do I fix this.

Hello. I plugged in a 128 gig Samsung drive and when I go to storage and reset and click the usb under removable storage. It does not give me the option to format it. Only give me Option to eject. What shud I do??

So when your shield freezes due to buffering on a movie sometimes it happens when its scrapings the sources is it safe to unplug with the extra storage device connected or how should you go about it so nothing happens to the storage device?... thanks
Hi Donald, buffering has nothing to do with your external hard drive. You might want to check your internet, Are you on WiFi, What's your internet speed, do you have your own cable modem or router? These are some of the issues that may cause buffering

Arvind, there is no app installer on the shield. If you want to clear the cache, go to settings, apps, and click on whatever app you want to clear cache and click clear cache. Finally, in this video, I showed you how to check your storage. Please watch this short video and you'll see the demonstration.

if you have an Android TV box you can definitely do it on an Android TV box if it supports it I have an Android TV box in mind supports it I have a USB thumb drive that is a 128 and that's what I plugged into my TV box and I have all of my data going straight to the thumb drive and I have extra space on my TV box so I don't have to worry about running out of space

I keep getting messages about the shield storage even though I've successfully completed your process. It shows that the WD SSD is installed and being used . Is there a way to disable these notices?
Now will it download to reg storage or will it download to usb or sd card
Just a quick point,if you just plug in your storage device it will not show up on your device and you will not see to format it like in superdells video.It would have been helpful to say straight of (1) plug in your new drive (2) then go to settings and go to restart (3) On starting it will then recognise the drive and you will be able to complete the formatting and storage.

I forgot to say I'm getting a message Sandisk USB has safely ejected.
My nvidia shield is not connecting to my internet. Any idea why this. My laptop is working just fine.

Adding and installing apks and applications to the external drive will they run as fast as the Nvidia Shield internal drive.
Hi Orbit, they run fast enough. I never time the apps from the internal or external but it's fast enough though.
Hi again... MyShield has now got the wd external drive listed ...it detected it I got notification ...now when I followed your video it said my drive was slow to use the Nivida drive.... My wd external ha been wiped clean

I didn't have any trouble until the upgrade to 7.1 ...I have read comments that others are having problems...

Yes, once installed and connected, it will use the expanded storage as internal storage. Almost every app you install will go to the usb drive
