It is amazing to me how you can be in church all of your life and never heard any of the knowledge that I am learning from these instructors and Pastor Wesley
The Word is nourishing to my spirit and sobering to my soul. And is constantly changing me to turn from my old way. And I do repent and lean not on my ways but on the Father's Way . The eguppy Love, while.
This series is so good and necessary. It makes me realize that all the questions I have are not for naught. We need to really think and research and open our minds. Thank you ASBC!
Dr. Smith is the smartest Bible scholar I’ve ever heard!! A scholar that intelligent could have been president of MIT. Thankfully he is God’s scholar in NT
I love the fact that GOD is Sovereign, and knew what writings “He” desired to comprise what we now know as The Bible. On January 19, 2013, as I read Isaiah 1:31 in the KJV, I sought clarification in the Life Application Bible. I ended up reading the introduction, which stated that the book of Isaiah is broken into 2 parts, with the 1st 39 chapters speaking of Gods judgement, and the last 27 being about Gods mercy, comfort , forgiveness and the prophesied coming of The Messiah!!! It wasn’t until I saw the 39/27 referencing Isaiah, that I realized that the total was 66, the same number of books in the Bible. Not only that, but the 1st 39 books of the Hebrew Scriptures deal with God revealing Himself in different ways to the children of Israel, through the writings of the Torah, Prophets, and books of poetry, while the last 27 books of our Bible showing God, “choosing” to Reveal Himself to All Humanity,(Jews and Gentiles), via His Only Begotten Son, JESUS. Coincidence? I know not!!! I am not a scholar, theologian, or a college graduate, but Holy Spirit chose to reveal to me in that time of study, that…….The books that are in our Bible……..ARE THE BOOKS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THERE. Hallelujah Jesus! Thanks Pastor Wesley and Ministerial staff of Alfred Street, for helping us to expand our thinking, by NOT forcing us to think what you think, but pushing us to think.
After listening to this teaching…I observed the lack of using or affirming “Jesus” as God. Yes “God” was mentioned as the one to focus on and believe in, but the Bible where Jesus states…John 14:6 - I am the truth, the way, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me“. When the brother stood up about what to call Him…the answer was not definitive. And why did he “Smith” say that he tries not to use the word “Lord”…hummm. I was taught and believe that the Bible, through a historical account, leads us from Genesis - Revelation based on the belief that it all lead up to JESUS. Is this what “Smith” is calling the “thing” we idolize? I know there is “power” in the name of “Jesus” because I have experienced the VICTORY through many trials, tribulations, challenges, offenses, etc. Let me offer more John 3:16, John 17:3, Romans 6:23, John 3:18…and more. This is the “foundation” of our Faith and Belief. I believe here, just like the “learned” men back in the day of Jesus, man’s “self-ideology”, hubris, and self-elevation through “learned” or “educated” precepts leave a sense of duplicity, in the “body of Christ” in what the Bible, the Word of the Living God, intended for His People Called by His Name. I encourage my Brothers and Sisters to remember the words of 1 Timothy 4: 1 about “false teachers”. “One point of “carnal direction”…really. Educated “words” will NOT cause me to doubt my faith or the Word of God, the Bible. Without the recollections and accounts of those people of that time, the witnesses of Jesus and the historical accounts of Moses, Abraham, David, Jacob…etc., how would we know? Finally, Deuteronomy 4:2 and Revelation 22:18-19…basically beware to those who add or take away from the Biblical accounts.
I love the Baptist Church teaching, it's always refreshing.

He likes to refrain from using “Lord” colloquially, as in: “Lord Jesus, you scared the living daylights out of me”!!
There is power in the name of Jesus!
