Just a thought....I've always added a short length of paracord to my tree strap (or your Whoopie sling) using a Prusik knot, before the carabiner. This acts as a "drip line"- never had water travel across the biner and down my hammock strap. I also add them to my ridgeline to prevent water from travelling down onto my tarp. My 2 cents from Canada. Cheers.
You are my inspiration for hammock camping. Bought DD travel hammock, DD 3x3 camo tarp. I use all your videos as guidance and this year successfully wild camped in the Cairngorm's, February past during beast from east... Thank you
Hi Shane, Another great, well explained tutorial. I would highly recommend anyone new to hammock camping and bushcraft to check out your channel first before setting out. Thanks for your time in sharing your knowledge this with us all on YT. Take care mate. Steve.
Great tutorial Shane, I have taken some tips from it to use on my next one, having hammock camped overnight 3 times now I still need pointers. Thanks for sharing. Lee
What a great and informative video. I have the dd frontline and woke up totally wet one morning. I made my adjustments to the hammock, for me this is the the best way to go camping. No back problems for me no more. Just back from two nights in the Dutch dunes. Maybe you can do a video about insulation and staying warm. When I setup my tarp i go around the tree and back under the tarp with my cord to make a utility line. For me that works wel. Great work and keep posting those videos! Greetings Steven
Thank you Jeff. Hammocking certainly seems to be gaining in popularity.appreciate your Comms as always jeff, have you been to trickle creek recently at all.
Thank you for the video Shane :) Great tutorial. I'm in the market for a new hammock and was looking at some of the DD hammocks at the show, so this was good to watch. Great tip about the crab and water tracking down it. I've had more than my fare share of damp nights. Thanks again Shane, all the best, Mark. :)
Thanks Shane. I learned about the trolley trick and will use that in the future. Now teach this old Texas boy what the heck a stone is in weight. My friends just tell me I have rocks in my head.
Thanks Robert, a stone is 14 pounds, or 6.35 kg in Weight. So I weigh 168 pounds or 76.2 KG. I liked your comment very funny. All the best to you over in Texas. Thanks Robert
I removed the webbing straps they had from The Originals over to a whoopie sling same exact effects that you just showed here good thinking for all the people who can't afford a whoopie sling excellent work
Yes the hammock I have is the DD Frontline XL and the tarp that I have for that is the 5 x 5 very large I found out and both hammock and tarp are in sleeves the tarp is in two sleeves technically
A very thorough tutorial Shane. There were some great points to note all the way through. Many thanks for the sharing of experience. I'm out soon with Paul Outdoors Hammocking in a brilliant permission of his. I shall apply some of the techniques from this and other videos. All the best. Mark
Hi just watching yr tutorial on hammock hanging the one you thread the webbing through, do you thread thread the same webbing through twice or both once , I know you said leave about 3 4 ft off webbing , great videos, many thanks Andy
@@IsleofWightBushcraft sorry, but do you put the webbing through twice as I cant see how you get 2 loops or am I being thick ,as in yr video you only put through once but end up with 2 loops , sorry to ask again but I dont want to muck it up
Thread webbing through twice, use a thin stick or something to help thread it through. Then tie your knot, then pull webbing round to feed and conceal knot in hammock sleeping. Ok Andy.
This video gives a full explanation including the
Marlin spike and hitch method. th-cam.com/video/sog_L6vnOzg/w-d-xo.html

Nicely explained mate. Personally i prefer using daisy chains for the tree straps but that's a personal thing.
Me too jim, they’re great, used these to show as a lightweight starter strap. But yes, I use those too.
