Now we know that the real reason Hallownest collapsed was because the Pale King embezzled all their tax money on giant vertical mazes filled with buzzsaws and spikes.

Late to the party (by a good bit), but it actually happens the same way in the second part of the Hollow Knight fight, the more you damage him, the more instruments join in (it's the same music)
@@OrionoftheStar Yeah, just trap it inside an actual corpse like the White Knight forever. However, that would leave Pale King homeless so that would not be very good

So happy that I just completed this a few minutes ago. Only took me about 3 and half hours to complete(I took a few breaks in between sections.) But, I'm glad I never have to do this again. This was probably the most difficult challenge I have ever done in any videogame, I've played. My God!!!!
I find it so unbearably tragic that the only mistake the Hollow Knight made was letting himself a brief moment of happiness and love for his father, and that such a tiny thing that had been denied to him all his existence was the root of his failure as a vessel. Alexa play despacito
Actually, i think it was the moment the Knight reaches that platform in the Abyss and the Hollow Knight actually looks back at him before walking away and the Knight falls
@@Xgendude14 It could be a spark for emotion. But the real secret is the end of Path of Pain, only by the fact that its a SECRET and SEALED, so that moment of happiness really was the vessel's doom.
Fabulous Pyro Also in the Godmaster DLC, the Pure Vessel has uncut Dream Nail dialogue. In that dialogue, he’s reciting to himself what the Pale King says during the Abyss memory. He’s trying to believe that despite the flaw he has, he can succeed in stopping Hallownest’s plague. He wants to meet his father’s expectations and be the kingdom’s savior. He even managed to keep the Radiance at bay for a time before the seal started to falter.
I interpreted it more as a pure vessel being impossible, as Hollow Knight had a moment of sympathy before he even left the Abyss. That's why the best endings aren't containing the Radiance but killing it.
@@jproductions1739 i would hardly call being taken over by an void entity as the best ending if. we don't give godseeker the delicate flower to stop it from going into the real world

It's crazy how the best kept secret in this game, guarded by this nearly unpassable gauntlet, and probably the sole Cause of the events of the game is "A Father loved his child, and his child loved him"
It's so good. A three second cutscene without words, and yet with context it shifts the perspective on the king and the knight and just explains so much.
I was always scared of the fight at the end but when I learnt that the desolate dive(I forgot what the upgraded version is called) had invincibility....

Meh, I think I'll get my ass wrecked by Nightmare King instead. Moving through all-spiky corridor (while avoiding all the saws) just using downslashes? Ultimate no-go for me. Big bow to those who can.
StormT G When I bought the game I didnt expect platforming in that magnitude at some point. Its actually a pretty interesting cutscene at the end and Im salty that only people, who are good at platforming get to see it, in a game that never put its main emphasis on platforming (until someone had the idea of the white palace). Im not a platformer. I tried anyway. I managed to get to the gate, that you can open, but after that I was just too tired to get any further. I would have to invest way too much time and patience to ever get to the end and that means I never would have gotten that cutscene without youtube. (Before someone asks: Yes lore in games like this one is just that important for me) *Sigh* Well I guess it wouldnt hurt to try another time later maybe. I mean I atleast could skip the middle part. Now I kinda want to finish what I started.
The Pale King obviously cared about the Hollow Knight. He has multiple statues of them in the Castle. And installed one in the City Fountain too! No one knows about the Hollow Knight, he could've just built only the Dreamers' statues, but he made HK the main focus on the fountain.
Well yea The pop cutscene proves it He had to watch the others die, no wonder he ended up feeling affection for it since hk was the only child i could have kept
Fun fact:- if you dream nail dung defender he says "so there were others..." meaning dung defender knew about hollow knight but didn't knew there were more
"Welcome to the Salty Spitoon, how tough are ya?" "How tough am I?" "I beat the Path of Pain..." "Yeah so?" "Without taking any damage!" "Oh, uhh... Right this way GOD"
"Difficult" doesn't even begin to describe the level of fuckery you gotta master to get though this nonsense. Jumping off moving bladesaws, every ledge or wall off screen, and mini bosses at the end of it all. At least the other part of the White Palace was just jumping and dashing...
The fact that Path of Pain has half of the Sealed Vessel’s soundtrack shows how much the “To be a vessel one must endure all kinds of hardships” means. If the way to last half of Kingsoul is hard because of Pale’s king own paranoid, imagine what pain must Sealed Vessel had to endure
Me, before watching this video: "I think I'll try the Path of Pain. Let me watch this video to get a feel for what it will be like." Me, after watching this video: "... No. I don't think I will."
My EXACT sentiment. Took me 2 hours to finish the white palace, with rage breaks in between. Figured I'd watch the video for path of pain first. That's a hard no.
I made it about half way (to about 1:49) and I thought I was getting the hang of it. But that second part is just unbearable. The "checkpoints" (basically any time the knight touches solid ground) are non-existent. So you are just juggling in between saws and thorns and have zero room for error while also need to maintain speed before the saws catch up to you. I gave it a fair shot but I think its fair to say this aint it for me. I did PoH, but this..... this broke me.
I started playing a week ago and just finished the white palace, i already knew about path of pain but came here to check how the whole thing is and after seeing that section at 3:00 i just said nope lol, i know i could probably do it after trying it for a few hours but there's no benefit or a real reward so what's the point of going through so much pain haha.

This... this is insane. I've never seen this kind of skill. Makes your (very offensive) hitless Nightmare King Grimm look like a small accomplisment. Congratulations!
Count Artorias you must have had his attacks down pat man lol, I almost beat him hitless after a bunch of tries lol. It's weird that the one attack you got hit by is his easiest one to dodge. I agree that this is by far the hardest thing in the game though, i don't have the patience for this shit.
Yeah you're right, Dark Souls has made me develop patience for boss fights; not gonna lie, the grimm fight looked impossible at the beginning, but with repeated deaths and figuring out the best ways to consistently dodge each ability while also landing a hit, I was able to beat him (God the fight in which I beat him was super intense) That being said, I do NOT have patience for platforming like this, the fight they throw at you in the end is just stabbing you in the heart.
Count Artorias me too, I think anyone who has beat Nightmare King Grimm has either played Dark Souls or should play it immediately. My brother watched me play it and was like "I just woulda gave up" and i said "Dark Souls has taught me one rule... everything dies" lol. Yah I was blown away by how insanely hard it was, no other boss gave me any trouble except for him, difficulty went from a 3 to an 11 when I got to him lol. I agree as well that the amount of patience it would take to do this trial is beyond me, especially cuz i had already seen that you get jack shit. I'm playing through dark souls 1 right now, its the only souls game i hadn't played cuz i was waiting for the remaster, i started with bloodborne and went backwards lol, bloodborne made me fall in love with the series. The remaster is trash but i don't care cuz i have been waiting for to long to play it lol. I just fought ornstein and smough last night, I was apprehensive but I stomped them first try, it was fortunate I played bloodborne first cuz it has the hardest bosses in the series for sure so every other game has been pretty easy compared to that lol. Plus it taught me HOW to play a souls game, which is very helpful, dark souls definitely is about patience.
my mom walked in while i was watching this and she just said with this utter amazement in her voice "jesus that's so fast is that sped up??? you don't play it that fast" and i was like no mom that's like the hardest level in the entire game i don't even want to enter it

It's funny because that 5 second scene at the end of the path of pain confirms part of the lore in the game that was previously unconfirmed and just theorized.
SuperShyerGuy Alright here we go for a lengthy explanation. SPOILERS AHEAD: The part that was previously unconfirmed but theorized was the reason that the first hollow knight failed to fully contain the radiance (infection). The Vessels were supposed to have no personality or feelings that the radiance could possibly take over, therefore making them the perfect containment unit for it. However this scene at the end of the path of pain shows that there might have been some sort of father-son relationship between the original hollow knight and the pale king. With these feelings implemented, the radiance could take hold of the feelings of the original hollow knight and escape from its confines.
I just died at the last fight because I wasn't prepared at all and now I have to do this ALL OVER AGAIN. Hell no... I want to die. PS: I finally did it. I couldn't feel happier.

The first time I found the path of pain I attempted it for at least four hours nonstop before giving up entirely. Came to this video about a year ago and realized I was so close. Still haven't touched it though I'm not reliving the trauma
@rafa, because God, capital g, is the Creator of all, and nothing and no one compares to him. He is unique and stands alone in power, morality, holiness, invincible, eternal, almighty, perfection, etc. A god, or gods, lower case g, are also angels. These are creations from God. Hence, why God is known as the God of gods, the Lord of lords, the King of kings, the Host of hosts, etc. The gods can also refer to the kids of the gods, or the bad gods, fallen angels, etc. Those kids are referred to as nephilim, titans, monsters, giants, etc. A god can also be misconstrued as mighty warriors or beings who are strong or very strong, or people who do amazing things, just like the game Hollow Knight does or the gamers who play them. But as you can see, those bugs and people are still mortal, not invincible, bleeds, and can be killed. So much for them being "gods" lol.
For several days now I have been trying to go through the last stage of the path of pain. The whole problem is that the last saw goes out of sync. All other stages are completed in 6 minutes, but not the pre-final. During this time, I seemed to have lost parts of myself for the sake of completing the path. Perhaps this is so difficult for me, because I have never played platformers or games that require extreme reaction. It will be over tomorrow _No mind to think_ _No will to break_ _No voice to cry suffering_ _No cost too great_
It's great that the OP pogos on the last ground saw just once, I had to do two hits to get enough to the thorns to get the under-over jump right. OTOH for the very last jump I didn't need to hit the lower of the two saws to squeeze through so that was a blessing.
The music and everything is simply beautiful. Had to read the comments to pick up on that it was just to get a bit of bonus story which made it even better. I feel like more games need some kind of super challenging thing like this that only the more dedicated players will do just to unlock some subtle bits of story like this part here.
*First thoughts* I was expecting some big reveal of the biggest secret in hollow knight after all these pain and suffering, instead I see the king and the knight enjoying the freaking scenery and looking at each other for a split second as if someone farted. *Second thoughts* Okay... in all honesty I'm actually mildly interested in what was happening here. The way the two looked at each other, I'm getting a bunch of father and son vibes or something. Is the King and the Knight bonding here? Is the Hollow Knight really not that hollow after all? Was the King showing him how to be a ruler? That's all I'm getting at here so far.
I think the entire POP was a test created to prove that the vessel is the rightful being to seal the radiance away, and this shows that your vessel is just as good as the actual hollow knight. My only questions now are the relationship with the dreamers, as well as the fight to seal away the radiance.
I think its meant to imply why the Hollow knight vessel failed to contain the radiance. The hollow knight was supposed to be entirely hollow and devoid of any personality or emotion so he couldn't be infected. The father/son vibes you got are exactly what it means. The king probably felt attached to his creation and started to feel for it, eventually making the Hollow knight start having feelings as well. Because of this, it probably failed to contain the radiance and the events of the game take place. Considering how much of an asshole he was, the king probably ran after realizing the fuckup he just did and ashamed of himself, hid the memory of his acts as far as he could, which is probably why the path of pain is fucking impossible for anyone who isn't good at platformers.
nate wardle Clearly, the White Palace is just full of memories, that was just a memory of the king, not actually him. This new area proves that the king is still alive somewhere in the world.
Well you are a speedruner. . . all right. Impressive. I sat like 2 hours on the last room and couldnt do it. I´ll be getting some sleep and try again tomorrow. Good to know that this really is the last room. Thank you for the encouragement.
Hiveblood helps immensely for those of us who aren't platforming gods like OP. Infinite tries instead of needing to start from the beginning if you die. That plus grubsong, then fill the rest of the slots with stuff to help you fight the two knights at the end... I almost died to those assholes, wasn't ready at all XD
I beat all of super meat boy dark world and did all of kaizo after a long while as well as beat celeste, n++, stealth inc., and have an unhealthy amount of time on geometry dash and I still suck at platformers
@@bender5860 ask me if your searching for a noob in platformer. Hollow Knight was my first one and my god did I sufferd at that bullshit in grennpath. If I ever get to this my live will just end.
Maybe the Hollow Knight that we fight wasn`t actually "hollow" because the king developed a fatherly attachment to the chosen vessel and vice versa. They way they looked at each-other was kind of suspicious.
I believe the King tested the vessels by injecting them with his soul. I don't think emotions have anything to do with this, but I still need to finish this to see the text in the Hunter's Journal. :)
If you really want an honest answer not joke here it come. This scene reveal yet another secret of Hollow Knight. The king is not a heartless monster after all and the vessels despite being designed to be hollow, they're still a living being and thus something inside them still exist no matter how hollow they are. This explain that deep down the king cares about the vessels and acknowledge them as somebody not just tools. Sadly there is no other way to save his kingdom at that time and he need to make hard choice. The image of chosen vessel that would eventually become the boss "Sealed Vassel" and the king sharing a glimpse of warmness toward each other explain it all. It's a bond similar to father/son which is acceptable consider that part of the king himself created these vessels thus making him their spiritual father. That's how tragic it is, a father forced to endlessly experiment and discard countless of his own sons/daughters to save his kingdom that eventually failed anyway.

When I bought the game I didnt expect platforming in that magnitude at some point.

J. Mário Oliveira offensive is putting it nicely, Grimm made me want to break everything in my house lol.
Beating Grimm is indeed much much easier than this shit, I almost beat him hitless; the only time he hit me was during his puff bullet hell attack
Count Artorias you must have had his attacks down pat man lol, I almost beat him hitless after a bunch of tries lol. It's weird that the one attack you got hit by is his easiest one to dodge. I agree that this is by far the hardest thing in the game though, i don't have the patience for this shit.
Yeah you're right, Dark Souls has made me develop patience for boss fights; not gonna lie, the grimm fight looked impossible at the beginning, but with repeated deaths and figuring out the best ways to consistently dodge each ability while also landing a hit, I was able to beat him (God the fight in which I beat him was super intense)
That being said, I do NOT have patience for platforming like this, the fight they throw at you in the end is just stabbing you in the heart.
It's funny because that 5 second scene at the end of the path of pain confirms part of the lore in the game that was previously unconfirmed and just theorized.
Which part?
SuperShyerGuy Alright here we go for a lengthy explanation.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
The part that was previously unconfirmed but theorized was the reason that the first hollow knight failed to fully contain the radiance (infection).

You mean a god*' ... little "g".

Same for me, that last floor saw is a PITA, got under twice and happily pogging on the wall saw, but mistimed final jump and pogo both times :(
That last room took all the enjoyment out of my run
Looking back I can't believe I actually completed this. And I can't believe even more that there is no Steam achievement for this.
Can't wait for silksong to give us the "Avenue of Agony"
Corridors of Chaos
Street of Suffering
The music and everything is simply beautiful. Had to read the comments to pick up on that it was just to get a bit of bonus story which made it even better. I feel like more games need some kind of super challenging thing like this that only the more dedicated players will do just to unlock some subtle bits of story like this part here.
*First thoughts*
I was expecting some big reveal of the biggest secret in hollow knight after all these pain and suffering, instead I see the king and the knight enjoying the freaking scenery and looking at each other for a split second as if someone farted.
*Second thoughts*
Okay... in all honesty I'm actually mildly interested in what was happening here. The way the two looked at each other, I'm getting a bunch of father and son vibes or something. Is the King and the Knight bonding here? Is the Hollow Knight really not that hollow after all? Was the King showing him how to be a ruler? That's all I'm getting at here so far.
Perhaps we'll learn more when we play as Hornet in 2018
I think the entire POP was a test created to prove that the vessel is the rightful being to seal the radiance away, and this shows that your vessel is just as good as the actual hollow knight.
He couldn't have run, he's dead on the throne.

Clearly, the White Palace is just full of memories, that was just a memory of the king, not actually him. This new area proves that the king is still alive somewhere in the world.
Well you are a speedruner. . . all right. Impressive.
I sat like 2 hours on the last room and couldnt do it. I´ll be getting some sleep and try again tomorrow. Good to know that this really is the last room. Thank you for the encouragement.
good luck!
Tenck
The game gives you infinite soul with the new statues, if you still need hiveblood then honestly I dont know what to say
Huh. I just figured they would have limits like every other statue, came prepared with Hiveblood, and so never found out. Ah well, nothing lost.
same lol
The music for this game is just beautiful, I love just sitting in certain areas and listening to the ambiance.
Me in the city of tears
It's in a dream world, all these spikes and buzzsaws are metaphors for the desperation to keep secrets of the palace hidden, made real.
Well, now I see how low my platformer skill is
I beat all of super meat boy dark world and did all of kaizo after a long while as well as beat celeste, n++, stealth inc., and have an unhealthy amount of time on geometry dash and I still suck at platformers

Mr Beast: "If you touch the ground, I'll give you $10,000"
Chandler:
Maybe the Hollow Knight that we fight wasn`t actually "hollow" because the king developed a fatherly attachment to the chosen vessel and vice versa. They way they looked at each-other was kind of suspicious.
Peter Alex The plague leaking is pretty solid evidence that happened
"No mind to think, no will to break"
I believe the King tested the vessels by injecting them with his soul.
I don't think emotions have anything to do with this, but I still need to finish this to see the text in the Hunter's Journal. :)
Nah bruh, they just gay.

The path of pain
The path of feels
The path of "haha nope fuck that I ain't doing that shit no thank YOUUUUU"
That’s last stretch before the Kingsmolds always gets me, more so than the rest of the path
Just watched this to check how far I am in finishing Path of Pain and I just knew I was close to the end. I have literally reached the last sequence.

I died at the kkingsmoulds
EDIT: I actually managed to beat it after 5 pain staking attempts, my advice is take a break whenever you're frustrated, and take the kingsmoulds slow. Another thing is, once you've beaten the part where you press the lever, you don't have to do it again. Good luck to anyone attempting this! Pantheon of Hallownest, you're next!
So.... How is the pantheon?
