For Jews, the Sabbath is the last day of the week, the day on which God "rested" after creation. This means that Sunday was the first day of creation, the first day of the week. Jesus, of course, was resurrected the day following the Sabbath, so on a Sunday, the First Day of a New Creation. --> In Europe, calendars have Monday as the first day of the week, as it starts the Work week. With Monday as the first day, that means Saturday and Sunday finish the week, making them the weekEND.
