    Bwaga Moyo:- "The Place you Leave Your Heart" is what it implies. It was given that name since it was the final location where African slaves were freed from their homes. They had the impression that they were leaving their hearts there since it seemed like the "Point of No Return."

      Yes, that was the meaning I was given when staying there in 1980 because slaves were transported from there.
      In 1980 it seemed much smaller than here.. I stayed in a small hut on the beach and walked up a sandy track to the edge of a street which led to an open square that seemed to be where people hung about and I had delicious breakfast every day of eggs in a little cafe on the corner and back for the meal served later in the day in the same place
      It was a beautiful peaceful place. I loved it and the people were very friendly.
      But it also felt of the sadness and horror of it's slave trade history with the remains of colonial buildings.. walking the beach I could not imagine how those people suffered.. the weight of it hung in the air almost.. it was hard to shake off.. like being in a sacred place of their memory. And I never forgot the place because of that.
