Romania - Village Life in Maramures and the narrow gauge steam train, the Mocanita

- A lovely little 2019 documentary of life in rural Maramures, a district in northern Romania, where life is un-hurried, pastoral and green. Everyone was making hay, beautiful, herb and flower-filled, heaven-scented hay. Some was piled onto wooden racks to dry, some piled onto small haystacks ready for the winter.
Horse drawn vehicles are a common sight, loaded with logs, hay and people. Sheep and cattle wear tinkling bells and every small farm has a pig or two.
A trip up the Vaser valley on the Mocanita steam train, the last working timber railway in Europe, was very special and not without excitement in the form of a derailment!
We pedalled around on bicycles, at a gentle pace, soaking up the gorgeous scenery, wonderful country smells and happy smiles.
All filming was with my much-travelled, hand-held Panasonic HC X920.

Because people tend to prefer to live in their own bubble. Many call it the "Comfort zone." Rather than go out their ways to find out how it feels to truly live, A simple yet meaningful life.

@@jaidevphadke9293 When I was very young, we lived in the city. My Dad ( blessed his soul), was a Banker and was moving from Bank Branch to the other. However, my grandparents were staying in the village and we visited them almost on monthly basis. I know and participated in everything the village offers, we spent longer time during Xmas holidays.
Then, l went to College, that gave me opportunity to travel by myself. So, l spent all my school breaks with my grandparents both maternal and paternal.
My father retired from work and went home to the village. So, visiting the village was awesome. My parents went into farming, each time we visited, we will help with farming, the little we can do.
I finished College and moved to Lagos, from Lagos, l relocated to the USA.
However, my brother is still living in our village, though, both of my parents are gone to be with the Lord. We still maintain the links. My Dad had a big house and we still maintain it, my brother still farm the lands and I have also built my own personal house in my village.

Dann wäre der Speck weniger fett und die Menschen dort würden auch nicht das Schweinefett am eigenen Leib herum tragen müssen. Ruin der eigenen Gesundheit! Unsere Dirndl gefallen mir besser. Die Tracht dort hat mir schon nicht gefallen, als ich sie als kleines Mäderl in einem Buch mit Trachten der Welt gesehen habe.
Der Film ist eine 99ige Kopie meiner Kindheit in Seeshaupt. Wunderschön!

Part of my family migrated from Romania to Turkey in 1930s, while the other part migrated from Bulgaria. I am Turkish and I still live in Turkey, however, i could never see my hometown. I never get a chance to taste village life. Thank you for showing that. So appreciate the video!!

These villages looks modern , beautiful and traditionally rich with a cultural background. I personally love these people of Romania and I wished these people the best by the grace of God. These are hard working people as they practice the subsistence agriculture. They all looked healthy.

I had the opportunity too visit Constanta just after the revolution in 1989.I met some wonderful people that i'll never forget.I remember a draft beer was 7 cts and a glass of wine was 10cts.👍⛪

This is the life I saw around me in France in the 1950s. It seems so far away! Every new technological progress has removed this life from us step by step. The TV, the supermarkets, the cars, the highways. I feel very nostalgic after seeing this. I miss the wildflowers most of all.
Khamomil - there are still lots of Wildflowers and local Butterflies/Moths in these areas of Romania, so we must ensure they stay there....

After the wall-falling, i traveled often to Eastgermane, i was reminded to my childhood, and finally : i`m living here, 16 years growing biologically food. Now i`m missing the diversity! On market i`ve heard often "too expansive" from people carrying golden watches and now i`m working 3 Schicht in plasticindustrie to pay may depth.

Es sind somit die Sünden unserer direkten Vorfahren, dass wir heutzutage völlig vom Geldsystem abhängig sind, und nur einige Wohlhabende noch fähig sind, sich selbst zu versorgen und in einer intakten Umwelt zu leben. Früher galt dies allerdings selbst für arme Menschen. Die unwissenden Menschen begreifen nicht, dass die Abhängigkeit (nur eine intakte Natur kann einem natürlich versorgen) politisch herbeigeführt wurde, denn hilflose, unwissende (wer kennt heute noch das alte Handwerk? etc.) und isolierte Menschen (die Auflösung der Familienbande, keine sichere Geborgenheit mehr in der vergewaltigten Natur) sind leichter zu beherrschen.

One of the beautiful part of the country,that it’s not enough advertised ,not well known with gorgeous places,nature …can’t say enough,healthy environment and organic food . Bread,meat and veggies test heavenly there,can’t buy those tests in the stores. The hospitality of those simple people it’s hard to compare. All Transylvania and Maramures (centre and north )as well it’s beautiful. The music,folk dance and folk clothes are beautifully from centre to north of the country.

@@JennyParsons Indeed. But we can't really complain - we were in our 70s when we went and drove all over the place in a car hired in Bucharest - where they tried to cheat us when we returned it. But that's another story ...!
