This is so great. A Swahili speaking (sort of) white guy takes a bus ride into a town in Tanzania searching for banana drink. He tries learning some phrases in Chagga. A local woman invites him to her restaurant where he has pork and fries and is set up with two of the restaurant's owners lovely daughters who have a few children. A local dentists advises him the banana beer isn't great in this town so the two lovely women and the white guy set off to find some in another town. I really enjoyed this!

How do you make alcohol drink from bananas. Here in south Europe we make strong alcohol drink from fruit plums or pears with process of destilation. Its probably the same thing. You collect fruit in containers and wait for two to three weeks for fermentation process to be over. After that you cook or boil the stuff in closed stove which is made just for destillation. First few decilitres you must throw because it contain poison methanol which evaporate first. Then come good ethanol. We usually get around 12-13 litres of 40% alc drink for 100 litres of fermented material from fruit. It is tradition here but this hobby is dying because state regulations and laws. Personaly i did not make rakija just have been brewing home made beer. But it is time consuming and you must have regulated temperatures of fermentation and be very clean enviroment for beerbrewing.

On a one night layover in Los Angeles from Hawaii to my Midwestern, home state, I met a . beautiful girl, with a beautiful name, from Moshi, Tanzania, who was residing in Santa Monica while attending college in the area.. We talked, laughed and shared our innermost feelings all night long. By the early morning time of my scheduled departure, i had fallen deeply in love with her. Although the ensuing long distance romance eventually took it's painful toll, I never stopped loving her. We remained friends and stayed in touch and we were even able to visit one another a few wonderful times.
Then, there came a day when communication and replies from her ceased completely. Without knowing anyone to contact, and because once she had conveyed thoughts of returning to her hometown of Moshi to live, I can only speculate that she may have done so. I think about her all the time. That beautiful little African girl that stole my heart and soul 40+ years ago and my greatest wish is to know that she, Apasaa Swai, is alive, happy and doing well.

If someone invites him in, he will follow just for a little. Great attituded on that. If I would have been him, the minute the lady said "you marry my daughters" I would have walked out of that place. This shows you it takes a special person this type of job. Great job !!
