Even if they had managed to get away with all the murders, once the everyday reality of living with a loser like Chad [who had sponged on his first wife] became her new normal she would have been shocked to realise that she would have to become the breadwinner. I found Chapter 3 of "James and Alena" !!
It's a bit short, but here it is:
    James began to awaken.
With his eyes still closed, his first thought was of his goddess Alena, whom he would soon take into his arms.
He was looking forward to her soft lips pressing against his and the things that would follow from that.
James rolled over in bed and opened his eyes.
He was greeted by the toothless, stubbly-bearded smile of his cellmate Chucky, who sent him a friendly “What’s up, bro?”.
    James closed his eyes again.

I thought this as well. Alex was NOT a meticulous and orderly person in the least. This was also on Chads property where he was planning on living-I don’t think he would have tolerated a messy “pet” cemetery. If he was trying to put a manufactured home on that part of the land, JJs burial site would have been disturbed and potentially exposed if things were not orderly on the surface. I think even covered with a slab, he would be bothered by the disorderly area.
I’m not officially OCD diagnosed, and we’re trying to filter things through the lens of autism (received this year at 39), but I do fit the profile including intrusive. It would bug ME if the area under the slab was disordered chaos-not that I would ever have a body there knowingly.

There’s something that resonates, Chads sweeping desire/lust for “Elena.” Why call her “Elena?” It really dehumanizes her and gives himself permission to unleash himself on her in his mind. It’s uncomfortable to say, but it reminds me of what Hannibal Lecter said to Clarese… “We begin by coveting what we see every day. Don't you feel eyes moving over your body, Clarice? And don't your eyes seek out the things you want?” I think Chad was suuuuper jealous AND envious of his brother Matt, he couldn’t help but want to one-up his brother in every way. Heather, I’m absolutely certain, was prime on Chad and Lori’s hit list. I’m glad the rampage stopped when it did. I pray that the community that allowed this demagoguery to occur LEARNS something!!! Dissenting voices are essential in healthy societies. We can all learn to be more brave and adhere to truth telling and hold integrity dear. I love pot-stirrers like Kay and Heather. You bet Chad feels like he’s been knocked 360 degrees with a frypan when they appear in his thoughts in his jail cell. I think Chad's jealousy of his brothers' success was a big part of why he shot himself in the foot by showing off his new bride so soon after Tammy's passing. It sickened his friends and neighbors, but it was an absolute need he had to say "See? See what I can get?" as soon as possible. He wanted his brothers and his community to see what a devastatingly virile man he must be to get a woman like that. He thought he had arrived.

That CD brings up his sibling’s advanced degrees, and in such a way that he sounds jealous of them and their success. Heather is a physically beautiful woman, she and her husband are successful and have that stunning home and property. Then Heather had a much higher calling in the church than CD ever had, to my understanding. Chad was probably attracted to Heather and hated her all the same time. I think that along with Melanie B. YES to Loin Fire being a middle school story. You unlocked memory of the time I wrote a preteen smut novel about 2 of my 8th grade classmates. My mom found it and her and my dad read it and laughed so hard. They actually kept it with some of my other "creative" literature pieces🤓. I had to hunt that back up and destroy it before my mom read it to my Aunts or something

We are focusing on Chad because he authored this mess but when you put the two stories together it’s pretty clear they both need the constant validation and both need to be as important as God himself. Lori had multiple marriages with normal men who expected her to behave like a normal wife and mother, with Chad she was an Exalted Goddess. And Chad used these ridiculous lines on many women and was just waiting for one to bite down on that hook. They are a prefect storm, without them joining together these tragedies would not have happened. IMO they are equally influencing each other and their followers and all are to blame equally. As Larry says, “Who sits and prays for Charles Tylee JJ and Tammy to die and NOBODY stands up and says THIS IS WRONG” Chad and Lori’s delusions were the core of it but there was an inner circle that is also culpable.

I know this was tough for Dr. John to revisit, but I have never listened to this before and want to present the opinion that it is actually important to recognize the absurdity. If more people were exposed to this fantastical love-bombing, and more importantly see the absurdity of it pointed out, perhaps more people would question love-bombing if it occurs early in a relationship and realize it is not coming from a healthy mindset and may even be coming from a manipulative and/or conniving one. So, thank you for reliving this.

Lauren- re: your cough. If it’s a mostly dry cough that’s hanging on and on after a cold/ respiratory illness, you may benefit from from talking to your doctor about getting an inhaler (like for asthma). Sometimes the illness causes the cough, the cough causes irritation/ inflammation in the airways, which causes more coughing which causes more inflammation- and it becomes self-perpetuating until you use something to calm the inflammation. Worth seeing your primary care doctor about.

I agree with Dr. John. I, too, feel some empathy for Zulema. To be sexually abused from age 7 from a father figure and to grow up in such a toxic abusive environment as she did left her vulnerable, broken, and alone. She was desperate for love, connection, family, and a place she felt secure. She tried to find those things in marriage but after 6 failed attempts she was still searching. People like Chad and Lori look for types like Zulema to recruit as damaged, lost, lonely, misplaced people in society are the easiest to groom and perfect to manipulate. People like Zulema never stand a chance once they're sucked into a cult like environment. This in no way excuses the fact that, like others involved, who knew what was going on, she should have spoken up. She clearly knows more than she's let on, and the defence is going to hit her hard as a result of that. It will be interesting to see whether Prior is able to extract more of the truth from her when she next faces him.

Narcissists emotional maturity is stunted at the age of 6/7 years. They are also terribly insecure and spend much of their energy developing a persona that others admire. This admiration is required because they are deeply insecure. How do I know? I was married to one and once I no longer loved and admired him because of his infidelity he turned into an ugly person who threatened my life. Never underestimate a narcissist!

What a lot of people don’t realize is that for a narcissist, this love-bombing behaviour actually comes from their intense feelings, and they don’t even know that’s what they are doing. They genuinely think they have found their soulmate. Then when things get “boring”, or they lose interest because they aren’t capable of true intimacy, they’ll start to find problems with the person they idealized in the first place, and then repeat that same cycle with someone else, discarding the first partner without any real feelings toward them any longer. Love bombing isn’t intentionally malicious in the beginning, narcissists really do idealize the person and believe in their own bullshit.

Something worth considering is the impact their religion had on their behaviors. Chad writes about limiting their sexual activities by keeping clothing on and then he gives it a religious tone by giving her a spiritual blessing during a sexual encounter. Yet where was the religion when it came to taking the lives of their family members whose main crime was being an inconvenience to their ability to have time alone? I also think Chad's description that Lori's love made him mad and crazy is accurate.

It's not religion and it's not religions fault. It's the way they decided to perceive it and in this case it's the way they decided to take something and use it to manipulate each other and others. It's individuals making horrible choices and using whatever they can in their lives and use it to do their own evil purposes. And that can be any thing somebody has in their life and no blame goes to something completely and utterly outside of these human beings and their actions just because they decide to use it in their evil evil plans

And anybody who blames religion is doing exactly what these people want. Anybody who blames religion is taking the responsibility at least in part from the shoulders of those who are doing things they absolutely know are wrong

Laughing at the writing is okay and makes the whole thing so extraordinary. I am so happy that Tammy’s friends got to let us know more about her. Do you think that Kay would ever be able to tell us a bit more about Charles as I feel he is an unsung hero. I completely understand if she doesn’t want to. Love you both. Am getting the article recommended.

Chad has never read a romance novel, his loin fire (my spellcheck wanted to change the word to bonfire!) is so beyond his imagination he resorts to Scientific Phenomena!!!
