Great, informative bit this. Might've been boring but atleast it gave people useful insight into the way the motor trade works and to be on their guard for things like this and to ask questions when motor shopping. I know we have this all online today, but the difference is, ye have to go looking for all that stuff, it isn't in an easy to digest half hour segmant like this. Granted not everything is covered but it gets the basic points over.
@@oddities-whatnot aye, sounds about right bud Difference was though ye actually could talk to someone face to face & get yer message across clearer than an online thing But yer right it was less convenient
the AA auto inspection missed a wheelwell full of water on a 944 was looking to buy, they had to pay my repair bills, also missed badly corroded brake pipes
This was when top gear was top gear, not that shite that clarkson and his two mates, lets smash a classic or a decent half car up, and put some guest in car
I don't mind purchasing a vehicle that was once totaled but rebuilt to factory standards. It's lighter on the wallet and there's less competition for it in the form of other potential buyers.
Write offs can be good value if it's just bodywork, Grills, Bumpers, Lights etc. As long as the chassis and mechanics are not damaged they are ok. If you are good at car bodywork and paint etc then It makes a lot of sense to buy a car that is cosmetically damaged.
How times change then..! That's all car manufactures are making these day's are throw away car's..! You just have to lean against some of them and you'll dent them..!
@@oddities-whatnot The old cars were solid so in an accident the force of the impact would be channelled through you the driver and your passengers. The driver might receive fatal injuries but the car could probably still be repaired.
Last week I reveresed my car into my garden wall doing maybe 3/4 mph. Scuffed bumper and only realised later that one of the rear panels wa sitting proud by 3/4cm. Took it to a body builder who took one look before whacking it hard with the heel of his hand!
Cars these days last far longer than the ones from the time of the video. My late model Honda looks new after 200K miles. It has not needed any repairs. Unlike olde UK and US cars which need and needed constant repair and were built badly.
Poor Mike Eagle looks like hes going to get shot if he does not read the script !
who is he?
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
His boss is just off the camera with a 12 gauge whispering "go on fuck it up i dare ya"
I’m glad that Geoffrey found work after Rainbow.
Mike Eagle is reminiscent of a character from Brass Eye .
Craig Stratford he looks like a rabbit caught in headlights ! He looks petrified.
@@oddities-whatnot LOL Simon. thats exactly what i said out loud. scrolled down and saw your comment and felt vindicated. he looks petrified

Samthebam its like the old days when you wanted car insurance. Usually had to go into a broker to get it done. Right pain if you were working.

To anyone familiar with the write off scheme, this is a brilliant idea.
the AA auto inspection missed a wheelwell full of water on a 944 was looking to buy, they had to pay my repair bills, also missed badly corroded brake pipes
Neither of those faults are associated with previous accident damage, brake pipes in a condition of concern would flag up on the MOT.
Bring back old Top Gear!!!!!
Too right!! i loved their rally specials and stuff like this, the crap that clarkson etc chucked out was just daft.
top gear was to do with cars then Not the presenters or guests
Yes I know new top gear is about cars over £100000 not realistic at all and taking a half decent car and smashing it up
This was when top gear was top gear, not that shite that clarkson and his two mates, lets smash a classic or a decent half car up, and put some guest in car
Fun fact, Chris goff's son is the drummer in supergrass
he kinda looks like he is reading from a script and is being paid off

@Jonathan the people who are concerned with resale values aren't looking at rebuilt title cars.
William Woollard! Once did 'Tomorrow's World' before doing this. He's now 80.
Lamster66 i had to read the end again, thought you said sitting on his laptop !
I remember him. Great presenter.
So, H. P. Information went on to become the HPI Check we're familiar with today!
It's weird because if you buy one of those cars all you have to do is restore it, get the mot done and insure it again
Dat E21, sad it was most likely scrapped. RIP
It was hit by a Fiat. If you look closely the Fiat badge is still hanging on the bumper

Good system to be fair should have carried on with it, would have been less ringers and shit repaired cars on road today

It would be just another car program...
Gosh this was a drag to watch!
@djdavedoc no thats whats fith gears for
3:03.......that's MOST COMMON, Chris, NOT COMMONEST!!!!!!!
Commonest is absolutely an acceptable superlative of common. You are just taught a different lexicon.
