The bag of dog food to show real time cargo space with 3rd row engaged was genius. It resonated. Best on camera example to show relative size I’ve seen.
Such a sweet SUV, Mazda’s doing an awesome job improving vehicles each year and truly set themselves apart with their premium feel. The CX-9 is the best driving SUV in the class hands down. Now that the CX-5 gets the turbo and the 3rd row in the CX-9 is pretty small...I’d be all over that CX-5 instead. Regardless, awesome job showing this thing off 👍
Decent review, thanks! FYI - I've seen at least a couple other reviews with 6 foot tall adult males getting into the 3rd row seat. It's not only possible, it's not actually that bad. You *did* move the middle row seat out of the way incorrectly - the handle on the top corner of the seat leans the seat most of the way down and simultaneously lets it slide all the way forward making it much less of a chore to get into. I'm 6 feet tall and I've been in the 3rd row of an older CX-9 which is almost exactly the same design. Granted, I wouldn't want to ride back there if I didn't have to - but if it's between taking 2 cars somewhere or everyone going together, it's definitely doable.
Good review. It looks like the most bang for you buck would be the Mazda CX-9. The luxury feel probably is the icing on the cake! The engaging performance is probably the clincher!
Great review, you have certainly pushed me over with this review and I think I will be getting this car! Been procrastinating for a year and I am happy I did because the added 2019 features like folding mirrors and Apple and android play was worth it . but your review reminded me why I have been living and dreaming about this car for almost a year . Thanks !
Great review. I was still undecided on which suv to purchase but after seeing some reviews on here and test drives from other reviewers I am definitely made my mind up on making the Mazda CX-9 as my top suv to purchase for myself and my family. Thanks for this review.
I do like how Mazda is listening to customers. I have a 2016 6 series and my complaints are road noise and a weak engine, and guess what? They have addressed both issues in the past few years. Props to them for making great vehicles.
Answering to your question, between the cx9 the highlander and the Honda pilot i choose the CX9, its roomier than the highlander , although in that segment the Pilot is the champ but in all the other aspects the CX9 is in another league, to make it short, it puts a smile in my face every time i go with the kids on a trip, the dynamics are the strongest point on why i chose the Mazda. Regarding the tire slipping while accelerating from zero I have noticed it as well and was one of my fair questions on why the awd wasn't quick enough to engage , even more, i had some torque steer , something you shouldn't have at all on a awd car. Although when you press the sport button it dramatically reduces this issue . A fair point to this is that there is 321 pnds of torque at the wheels at 2000 rpm , something no other suv of the segment does so this is perhaps why you feel the slip, although awd kicks immediately and solves the problem.
Never saw any reviewer go this detail. Amazing work. I wish Mazda could try a more powerful engine in this beautiful chassis. I hate manufacturers using one power train in their entire lineup.
Gorgeous! My only request is that Mazda would entertain a more flattering rim design. Having these factory rims polished to give off a chrome like appearance would take this beautiful machine to the next level.
What a great review! I love that you take the time and speak clearly. Cant understand when others speed talk so fast through their videos like Redline reviews yikes . Subbed 👍🏻
Test drove this exact car yesterday, beautiful color the interior is too, when you get in and close the door it feels and sounds solid and does look luxurious. Didn't feel as big as it looks from the outside, I liked that for me, pulled out onto the freeway and hit the gas, had the turbo sound and acceleration was pretty amazing for an SUV, I have a v8 Hemi jeep that doest takes\ off this fast. I like luxury looks and feel and the Signature would be my choice. Surprised it didn't have remote start, and park assist, even cheaper models have those features.
In this class of vehicles, CX9. No question. Yes, I would miss out on some options, but there is something about this vehicle that, to me, makes it feel special, even compared to the new Santa Fe. The Ascent would not be a consideration, as, to me, it’s too much about function over form. The Pilot is not ugly, but it doesn’t appeal to me emotionally. The Sorento’s dashboard is outclassed here. The Highlander, as good as it is, is old, and its interior is a testament to that. So my second choice would be the Santa Fe.
Mazda recently has fallen into this niche where they are not quite a luxury brand but they seem to be a step above their competition. Both the new 2019 Mazda 6 and 2019 Mazda 3 for example look like they belong in a different class.
This nice is called premium vehicles, classified as not quite luxury/expensive enough to be considered luxury vehicles, but definitely distinguishable from non-luxury vehicles. Good example is Buick. Premium vehicles can compete with entry level luxury vehicles while costing less (vs Acura, Infinity)
Great detailed review. You did make one point towards the end about Mazda being a small company. They have close to 47,000 employees globally. They might not be a big deal in the States, but they are in Asia and also the APAC region.
I'm Australian why did I have to watch an American review of a car that I'd really like to purchase in order to get a great idea of what it's really capable of nice work sir
So I scrolled down a fair bit and didn't find anyone talking about this, so I will; not that it's very relevant, but whatever. The wood you mentioned coming from a Japanese guitar builder is most likely from the Fujigen factory, not Fuji ;) The Fujigen plant is, and has been for a long time, a builder of excellent high-quality guitars in the upper price ranges and rosewood has also been a very popular guitar wood, especially for so-called fingerboards, for a long time. Interestingly enough, rosewood has been restricted for the world market due to it being threatened by mostly furniture builders consuming large amounts of it. To use/export it now (especially export it to other world areas, like USA > EU) you need a permit that both costs money and a whole bunch of bureaucrat hassle. This should mean the car has to come with the CITES permit (CITES is what the protection stuff is called), and should theoretically also mean that if you happen to not be able to prove the production date, the product that contains the wood can be confiscated and destroyed. Of course, they can probably easily check to see the car's production date through a VIN number or something, one would hope...
Rented the 2019 CX-9 over the weekend driving maybe 300 miles total. I’m 6-2, plenty of headroom and legroom length-wise but it’s very narrow. My knees were pressed against the sides and actually got sore. Also, felt a bit claustrophobic overall and also sat very high, limited visibility. Great power and felt solid on road.
Look at this gas prices for 93 octane--$2.38. To think that we were bitching about gas prices then and here we are today paying on the low end $3.49 for 87 octane in the DMV area 😭
This is the SUV I would love to own and drive, it's really cool the design and paint color is just the thing I want specially if the wheels is in glossy black that would add the already a very beautiful car.💕 💕 🏎 🏎
Great car, but I will only list the negatives (very few) that are preventing the wife from choosing this SUV: - no remote start (it’s 2019, Mazda) - small center console - only slightly more cargo space than our Santa Fe Her favorite so far is the Honda Pilot.
Cx9 all day long. Although I’d like this car with a v6. Pilot has roominess but cx9 is better all around. Durability/reliability is overrated with Honda after having two. And the quality of Honda and the rest you listed isn’t even on the same level as Mazda.
great review. love that you covered the performance aspect so well. You didn't mention it, but I assume the steering wheel weight is nice and heavy. Would've liked for you to talk more about the 3rd row and actually get into the seats (stating how tall you are).. the 3rd row is really the ONLY reason I'm considering this vehicle over just keeping my 5 series.
Good video. The canera on your head is not good idea because too much movement and not really good view in front. All the information about this Mazda was really helpfull and well informed. Many thanks.
Now that you have driven the Mazda CX9 and the Kia Telluride, which one did you have the most fun driving? Ive owned Mazda's for 15 years. Loyal to the brand as you can get. First owned a Mazda3, now a Mazda6 and now ready for an SUV. The joy of driving a Mazda is something that lacks for me driving other brands. However, the Telluride has caught my attention. I'm 6 months out from getting out and test driving these vehicles for myself, but since you had, I was curious to know your opinion.
Looks very elegant. Personally, I think it looks better than the VW Atlas and to an extent, Subaru's new Ascent. Power specs are still the same. Mazda should have increased power/torque ratings unless the owner of this crossover uses premium gasoline which increases power up to 250HP. This segment continues to become more competitive. Now in 2019 Hyundai's new Palisades arrives with nearly 300 HP. Phew!
My questions for you is in the 3rd row seat how is the ac . Does it reach back there? Is there vents for the 3rd row? I live in the southern California desert. It hits 115 to 120 degrees i wanna make sure my passengers feel the air.
Awesome review. What is the recommended gas to use in the cx9. I saw the you use 93 (premium). But I also heard that 87 can be use as well what you recommend??
Panoramic roofs are heavy making the vehicle unbalance feels like a truck and less agile which mazda is 100% against. Dont expect it to be a feature anytime soon
I'm looking at the pilot, Highlander and cx-9 right now to buy. All have some issues I'm having a hard time getting over. Toyota still doesn't have Android auto. The pilot looks like a mini van. The touch screen on the cx-9 and v4 engine are deal breakers for me. I wish Honda would go back to the boxy style on the pilot.
I love all Mazda suv but the more I see the more I like to go with Cx5 because it has everything I need unlike cx9 and cx3 they are too small with very big bug$
Durbar Biswas rear Sears fold from a lever and when items are pushed in they go down the rest of the way. 2 air vents for the back that go to your body and face, steering wheel is easy to change, horse power.... 250
Not sure why on your list of comparison you did not include the subaru ascent ... You have reviewed the ascent before and am curious to know what you think is the best vehicle between the mazda cx-9 and subaru ascent, and why
Great review bruh. If you love your dog, research Purina dog food. Both of my Goldens died from the same cancer and that brand is all I fed them. Back to the vehicle... we most def need a 6 cyl in South central TX hwy mergers.
Nate W you don’t have to worry about power with the power to weight on the Cx9.. it’s a beast! I work for Mazda and also sell Acura and the MDX is kinda heavy for the price difference.
I went to dealership for a test drive and straight when I stepped in, I noticed the central column oversized...I mean, it's nice but I feel very tight driver leg space compare how big is the Cx9.... disappointed, u-turn :(
I think the main reason on why the central console is so big its because mazda ussually tries to satisfy drivers, in this case to have the gear change shifter as close as posible to the steering wheel so you can do quick gear changes and get back your hand quickly to the steering .
Nice review - very thorough on design and features. I would have liked to have seen more on the safety/navigation features. (how effective (annoying?) is the lane departure, the 360 camera view, thoughts on their integration with Apple CarPlay, etc.)
@@forrestsautoreviewsofficial that's very true although if done right I think a good LED turn signal is a little more visible to other drivers (brighter). It's mainly aesthetic. I think if a car goes 90% LED it should just go all in for a consistent, modern aesthetic.
What’s wrong with car reviewers 🤔 they want a sporty performance with a family car. If you want sport performance get an F Car. I was hoping to hear much about the suspension which is more important to me and a lot of people
At this point , almost all SUVs makers have made brilliant Family cars, its the ones that give an added value the ones that are succeeding like the CX9 which gives you impressive driving dynamics on a SUV. SUVs where always dull and boring to drive , now it is not. and yes the suspension is great on this car.
Other than driving dynamics the new KIA TELLURIDE kills this thing in every way especially NEW TECH and it’s better looking and roomier inside ...every fault you mentioned on this Mazda is not an issue in the Kia starting with the fake front air inlets The KIA has a handsome boxy shape and super distinctive look and they are top 5 in reliability My top of the line SX AWD in DARK MOSS with the 20 inch black wheels is even better looking than this gray mobile which just blends into all the others and the Kia gets better mileage with the V6 ... The Kia will be in huge demand on the used market in a few years but I’m gonna be smiling around in it for the next 15 years instead of a minivan
@@marcoruiz881 You mean 310 pounds of torque, subaru has faster 0-60 times than the mazda cx9, so i don't think so. Also subaru ascent just has better cargo room and room in general.
@@zigzag00 yes i meant 310 pounds of torque, i have not driven the subaru yet but have seen some reviews , 0 60 times its 0.1 sec difference, but handling is totally differen story, plus the subaru has a cvt ( boring and dull) As i have said before , all of these 7 seaters are huge and in this case the added value will make the difference , in thes case the added value is fun tu drive and dynamics. car and driver comparison here: hmg-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/files/2018-chevrolet-traverse-rs-2018-mazda-cx-9-awd-2019-subaru-ascent-touring-finalscoring-performancedata-completespecs-1535487927.pdf

the exhaust tips should've been bigger makes it look tinny
Those gas prices though! If only he knew…#2022
Almost all Subaru's sold in the US are made here... Great video though!
@@forrestsautoreviewsofficial all good, I really like your videos man. Keep it up!
I would take it over a Lexus
Those swirls tho lol
Other than driving dynamics the new KIA TELLURIDE kills this thing in every way especially NEW TECH and it’s better looking and roomier inside ...every fault you mentioned on this Mazda is not an issue in the Kia starting with the fake front air inlets
The KIA has a handsome boxy shape and super distinctive look and they are top 5 in reliability
My top of the line SX AWD in DARK MOSS with the 20 inch black wheels is even better looking than this gray mobile which just blends into all the others and the Kia gets better mileage with the V6 ...
The Kia will be in huge demand on the used market in a few years but I’m gonna be smiling around in it for the next 15 years instead of a minivan
The kia is nice but in a few years you will be able to get one for 15k lol
Honda Pilot but for $50k I love my MDX Hybrid.
You said this is a flagship., i think a flagship deserve 6 cylinders., not 4 cylinders..
Even MB gle comes with 4 banger turbo
$2.40 for gas!? Its still $3.20 in washington!
Eastern Washington it's $2.83 - Tri-Cities.
$1.78 in south Texas!
Classy Zoom Zoom
227 Horsepower? Wow, Subaru Ascent Makes 260 Horsepower with a TURBO and it doesn't require 93 octane to get more hp! Wow.
321 pounds of torque at 2000 rpm makes it up . believe me it reaches 135mph effortless.
@@marcoruiz881 this is a family suv, driving dynamics dont really matter but yes it is good, and u are qrong in so many levels! Subaru has the worlds best awd system, search up best awd brands, or go on youtube write subaru pulling trucks out of snow, and youll literally see a subaru forester pull out a public bus. Subaru is known for its awd, mazda is okay, because in the diagonal test for 2017 mazda cx9 it failed, so mazda still needs to improve a lot.
ARandom_User true on subarus best awd system, they are like audi having a lot odmf experience in the matter. Suv segmentation has enlarged having options for everyones taste and needs , in my case ; i travel a lot in high altitude mountain roads where you need really good in road dynamics , also go to the beach side and some of road where mazdas wad system works well. Seems you hace other needs on urs. Thats the magic of this , now we have an option for everyone
Mazda CX-9
Beautiful SUV. Need 21" rims to fill out the wheel well.
The vehicle looks amazing but if I was to zonk one thing it would be that display I hate how it feels like an after thought plz car manufacturers quit taking the easy way out
More cars are going for that display, probably cheaper, don't like the look either, should be integrated into the dash has a lot more class!
