Methanol or race gas? Man hell of a job on the mount and setup of that pump. Love it

Thank you! I run 112 race gas.

@@rjpolitowski6057 What are the pros and cons? I don't know much about Methanol. Does it handle more compression?

@@SchoberMotorsports sorry for the long text in advance. As far as compression and handling more, I don’t think to my knowledge there’s a limit on how much compression it can handle. I know my engine is 14.5:1 and I’d have no issue running it if I switched to methanol.
The biggest pro in my opinion is that it runs a lot cooler than gas. So guys who double enter a lot love it because they find themselves putting heat in their engines even later in the rounds. Guys who run it swear it’s more consistent. To me that’s debatable because I know a good bit of people who run on 112 that are very deadly. Our track champ last year won both Modified and Top class running race gas. He double entered every points race, one entry in each class, and won both.
I know in theory methanol should be more consistent because it’s less susceptible to weather changes due to it being water based. But again I think it’s debatable.
      As far as cons,
      1. It’s much more corrosive than race gas.
      2. You need to use A LOT MORE methanol than race gas (mainly because it takes so long to warm up) If you go to a weekend event and plan to double, you’ll need a 55 gallon drum of it. Compared to bringing 20 gallons of race gas.
      3. A lot more maintenance. More oil changes cause the oil gets diluted from the mixture with the methanol. Floats get heavy over time and need replaced. Needle and seats stick and need replaced. Among other things. I know without a doubt that nice new fuel pump you put on will need rebuilt in a few years.
A vacuum pump really seems to help some of the maintenance from what my builder/good friend has taught me.
I know on engine tear downs when we tear down an engine that ran on methanol, you can see the stains on the cylinder walls from the alcohol and even on some crankshaft journals. Does it hurt anything? I don’t know, because they all run well and consistent, I just know it’s there. He’s hell bent against me running it even though I’ve considered it in the past.
Basically what it comes down to for me, I don’t want to carry a 55 gallon drum around with me to events, I don’t want the extra maintenance, and I don’t want to buy a new $1500 carb. My car runs cool enough and I have no issue getting it cool enough to hot lap or double enter.
However in this day and age with bracket racing being so tough, most popular way to race is using methanol with a glide, which you’re halfway there with the glide. I’ve considered both, on many occasions, but I worked hard to get my car to work the way it does and I’m not interested in starting over, or spending the money to switch.

@@rjpolitowski6057 Sounds good, thank you for all the info! I really appreciate it. Biggest "con" for me is how corrosive that fuel is. I've never had cooling issues with this car, I'd rather not mess with the "exotic" fuels and gain the reliability of normal race fuel... I'm with you though, bringing a 55 gal drum to races is kinda extreme. I usually carry 20 gals on board and it lasts me quite a few races before I need to top them all off again.

Nice job,how long did it take you to finish the job from start to finish? I also run the blue pump and I'm looking at running the same pump.Just trying to figure out how much time I need to prepare for.

Thank you! This took me about 3 days to do, including taking all the old stuff off. Thanks for watching! Let me know if I can answer any other questions

Did you have to set the bypass at the pump? Does that ever come in to play with the fuel pressure regulator set around 7?
Haven’t been able to find much on that in my digging, just curious

I did not need to mess with the bypass at all. I installed all the lines and then set fuel pressure via regulator and that was it.

Are these pumps just always loud ? Bought a car with a magna 500 and it's as loud as the exhaust almost lol

In my experience, every aftermarket pump that I've used has always been really loud, but I've only used this pump and the Holley Blue pump.
