      @@markpeterson3220 Bach is amazing. I don’t think it’s fair to say that this is the “apex” of western music. Have you ever listened to a Mahler symphony, Beethoven symphonies, “La Mer” by Debussy , “Daphnis et chloe” by Ravel, Sibelius’ 7th symphony or “Finlandia”? My point is it’s useless to say that Bach is the “apex” of western music because there are so many more amazing and great pieces of music that has been written since Bach’s time. Saying that Bach was the “apex” is somewhat suggesting that music has gotten worse which I just think isn’t the case.

    Il y a déjà de si nombreuses années, je fis la connaissance de Irmgard, ma grande amie allemande. C 'est le ciel qui nous fit rencontrer, par delà nos conditions sociales et religieuses différentes . Mais le cœur réuni les êtres humains, par delà le temps, les générations, les milieux sociaux ou culturels. Elle me fit à l' époque cadeau d' un disque que son fils venait d' enregistrer, dans l' interprétation précise de ce motet si typique ! Aujourd' hui encore, je pense souvent à cette oeuvre, et lorsque je pense amitié sincère, je me la rappelle instantanément ! Quand Irmgard apparut dans ma vie, c' est comme si Jésus devenait mon ami: Car le seigneur n' a d' autres ambassadeurs que nous mêmes et notre prochain.

      Patrick Tobin eine echte harte Entscheidung Alter :D

    • @olaflieser3812
      @olaflieser3812 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Patrick Tobin Matter of fact - I know a few Americans who speak very, very clean, accent-free German (I'm a German native speaker). That seems to be doable for some. They speak just a little slower than Germans - but so very "pure" if you will. One can argue it does actually not matter whether you've got an accent anyway (I will always keep my German English accent for lack of talent to get rid of it).
      When you rehearse music pieces, you rehearse pronounciation as well, and so you'll be able to sing those very "purely" (for lack of a better word) as well. But most of all: Making this kind of music is so wonderful, it gets so deep and touches your soul.

    • @aliosch

    This video is so useful, especially for the phrasing of each part of this complex and beautiful work. This choir and director have resisted the tendency to push on the strong melody lines given to each part. They blend the melodies superbly. Well done. Bach never goes where you expect him to go. That's the measure of the man and the music.

    Having sung most of Bachs choral works, (and this most of all) its my personal opinion that this piece compresses all of the other works into one short conclusion, both in text and music. The true essece of Bach´s choral work. And here in an interpretation just in my taste; simple, clear and not overdone. I´m sure ML is smiling in heaven. My compliments and thanks for sharing!!

      Agreed! By the way, I kindly recommend the appreciation of the work of a living classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music: W. Ferdinand. I feel myself like a sort of non-official ambassador for his music - and, effectively, also one of his few supporters. He is very, very talented. You won't be disappointed. th-cam.com/users/WFerdinand

    Dr Criddle,
    This is absolutely beautiful. Their tone is absolutely angelic. The sound is connected, smooth but the diction is still crisp and clear. Their mouth/vowel shapes are the same which unifies the sound. This is a small ensemble but the fullness, roundness, and openness amplified their sound and enriched their tone. So lovely!!! -Jessica W.

    Ez a motetta tán a legközismertebb, s a legjobban kedvelt; nem véletlenül! Itthon is több, elismert zenei műhely tartja repertoárján. E videó is joggal növeli Bach, és a német motetta irodalom népszerűségét. Köszönet e szép élményért!

    absolutely stupendous. The precision in shaping words and musical lines is unlike anything i have heard.
    Also superb recording quality. How could they do this without mikes in front of every singer? It sounds more like a church than a concert hall.

    Jesu, meine Freude in English:
    1 Jesus, priceless treasure,
    source of purest pleasure,
    friend most sure and true:
    long my heart was burning,
    fainting much and yearning,
    thirsting, Lord, for you.
    Yours I am, O spotless Lamb,
    so will I let nothing hide you,
    seek no joy beside you!
    2 Let your arms enfold me:
    those who try to wound me
    cannot reach me here.
    Though the earth be shaking,
    every heart be quaking,
    Jesus calms my fear.
    Fires may flash and thunder crash;
    yea, though sin and hell assail me,
    Jesus will not fail me.
    3 Hence, all worldly treasure!
    Jesus is my pleasure,
    Jesus is my choice.
    Hence, all empty glory!
    What to me your story
    told with tempting voice?
    Pain or loss or shame or cross
    shall not from my Savior move me,
    since he chose to love me.
    4 Banish thoughts of sadness,
    for the Lord of gladness,
    Jesus, enters in;
    though the clouds may gather,
    those who love the Savior
    still have peace within.
    Though I bear much sorrow here,
    still in you lies purest pleasure,
    Jesus, priceless treasure!

      ashraqat mohamed I guess they translate 'meine Freude' as 'priceless treasure' so that it will fit the rhythm, and rhyme... it's hard to fit "my joy" into the four syllables of "meine Freude"...
