    Looks great! I was obsessed with coding platformers in the early 90's. Wrote my own set of map editors, animation editors, and a nifty sprite compiler. I remember how tricky it was to get the jump feeling *just* right. Looks like you've got it settled. Great video ... subscribed ... best of luck on your game!

    • @LostRelicGames
      @LostRelicGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey John! It sounds like you have quite the repository of knowledge on my fondest genre. It would make for some great tavern talk over many rounds of ale! The jump is most certainly the make or break for any game focusing on precision platforming, I feel much more at peace knowing the current state of it. The retro era is a real treasure trove for this stuff. Glad you enjoyed the video mate, wishing you the best~!

    • @johnnagle7542
      @johnnagle7542 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lost Relic Games yeah, absolutely, let me know if you make it to Austin TX anytime soon! I went to work as a junior programmer at Iguana Entertainment in 1996, then Inevitable Entertainment, and eventually my own VR startup Phaser Lock Interactive. Parted ways with Phaser Lock in 2016, started Thrust Vector to do some more VR, and now doing military/space-related stuff. Still do games in my free time between 2a-5a :-)

    How do you balance making videos and working on your own games? I use instagram to post training/workout stuff, but find it quite time consuming at times to make the right video, take the right angles, have the right lighting etc, it starts to eat away from my rest time and elongates my sessions.

    • @LostRelicGames
      @LostRelicGames  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a good question. These type of dev logs certainly eat into dev time. The editing is always brutal. I bounce back and forth between the two depending on my current appetite. In the future I'll probably make simpler dev logs, as tying in a narrative adds a significant overhead. (And does not guarantee more views)

    this is great BUT with your model, that is more detailed than the mario's one, there's a bit of problem with the start of the jump. We see the weight in the landing, but not in the start of the jump...like, the animation lacks a bit of force and speed in the beginning. That, at least, is my opinion.
