    Great comparison. For your use, a lot offroad or demanding gravel roads, the 21/18 inch fron/rear wheel, ground clearance and suspension travel is clearly an advantage of the Tenere. And its of course always nice to have a little bit more power. I think you are very fair to the CB500X with Rally Raid kit. I have Rally Raided mine. I got a new CB500X 2019 and did a full level 2 RR-upgrade included the spoked wheels. The price was less then a new Tenere and I now also has the OEM rims. In less than an hour I may now switch between pure street configuration and offroad/gravel. As I also do a lot asphalt thats an advantage for me. I did test ride a Tenere and I like the engine and I like the suspension and it is great to ride while standing. If you count in your Rotopax the weight difference of the Tenere vs the CB500X is starting to gap a lot in favour the CB500X. Wish you a lot of nice rides on your Tenere. Its a great bike, no doubt.

    • @FARANDFURTHER

      Hi Sven, the CB500X is so versatile bike and especially if you kept the OEM wheels! That way you have great tourer and great offroader!
      As you mention, it is nice to have a bit more power but it was the off-road for me because I grew to like it and ride harder terrain and faster. For example here in Morocco (I'm stuck in lockdown) all the sand in sahara was much easier on T7.
      It really boils down what one wants to ride. I 100% think CB500X is RTW bike.
      Good point with Rotopax, but I had it on my CB all the time as well, similar rack configuration.
      Thanks a lot for great comment, appreciated.

      @@FARANDFURTHER Loved the video.. I'm curious about the 6 speed in the Honda verses the 5 in the Tenere. Were you shifting more often in the Honda because the gears were closer together?? Also which one revs less with lower Rpms on the highway at the same speed?? 👍

    Great video. I've been waiting to see your comparison. My CB500X RRL2 has been good enough for me, but I understand your concerns about the power and better wheels/suspension/ground clearance of the T700.

      Hey Greg! I still love the CB500X even in the last interview with the Wheels of Morocco I mentioned CB500X is still my favorite bike, T7 will have to earn that title! ;) CB500X goes long way. Without having all that experience on it I would know it's limits and knowing those is really helpful when thinking about new bike.

    I just confirmed my order for the Tenere 700 , got the black one but didn't want either of the accessory packages they offered . Only wanted a couple things that were in each package so I will have to see what the parts department can order for me . I do want the center stand but I will have to watch your video on the trail stand . Meanwhile there's 45 more days for me to lose 15 pounds and gain back a little muscle .
    Great video as always looking forward to the next one .

      I bought just the bike as well as I had good experience with aftermarket accessories and really wanted to have those on the bike. I ended up with Yamaha bashplate and I'm happy with it to be honest but that's probably all which was of interest for it. Yes you can spend money on indicators etc... but that's just cosmetics and I'll break things a lot...

    Thank you for making this video! I currently have a 2017 CB500X and I have been eyeing up the Tenere but unsure if I should just do the rally raid kit instead. This answered literally all of my questions. I'll be saving my money and doing the Tenere. Im 185cm tall and really for me it has been a desire to have more leg room in addition to a bit more power. It seems the Tenere would be the smarter investment long term. Maybe I'll wait to nab one used

      Hi Pat, your height will make T7 riding really easy. I think the approach to get some more miles on CB500X and next year or so switch to T7 is good plan, people and Yamaha will sortout all the initial pains and flaws. Can't say how you ride but for sure in long term T7 has more space for rider growth.

    I changed the standard 15 for a 17 teeth sprocket on my 2020 Yamaha Tenere! best modification ever ... I can still ride almost everything in 3rd gear offroad and onroad! 1st and 2nd are only for uphill starts / uphill offroad and very slow riding onroad. The big benefit is the reduced RPM in 5th on B-roads and in 6th gear on the motorway. The engine has so much low and mid range power (aka "torque") the 15-sprocket just doesnt make sense to me.

    Watched all your Tenere videos. Very informative, thank you.
    Suspension seems to be too soft and wobbly. Especially apparent during that rocky descent, it seems to be bottoming out quite easy. If you change the suspension with RR's extreme version and add some other much needed farkles, the price of the T7 comes to the price of a KTM 790 Adventure R... OTOH, the KTM already has amazing suspension and a low sprung weight with the help of that low hanging fuel tank... I own an r1200gs lc and have been contemplating about replacing it with a bike that I could do more offroad (less weight) with and not be scared to trash around due to repair costs. T7 seems nice but not enough highway power and requires suspension upgrade (with my heavier weight, more so). KTM has power and suspension but can't say that I'd be relaxed taking it off road as it'd have costly repairs. Tough life! :)

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Haluk,
      yes especially for heavier loads the T7 suspension is limited. I'm 72kg and I've changed the rear spring from 70Nm stock to 80Nm uprated linear spring and it's better.
      RallyRaid extreme suspension would of course be amazing but I can't justify that price tag as I'm mostly overlanding (which is not hard enduro) and now I'm taking T7 for the 1st rally - so we will see how stock suspension will cope.
      I've done some mods (see last video) to minimise damage as I'm dropping the bike a lot and I'm curious how it will survive the rally.
      I don't really have highway power issues but I can understand that coming from GS1200 is downgrade... I upgraded from Honda CB500X ;) so T7 is like a rocket for me.

    can you review this bike as a smaller rider. i'm the same height as you but i have no adv bike experience. i've only had experience sport bikes for two years. my dream is to travel north and south america on the tenere 700. is this a good adv bike for a beginner adv short rider?

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello, this is tough question. First of all you can get lowering kit for T7 or lower seat. However I'd suggest maybe to get some ADV experience first on any bike (does not really matter) so that you get an idea what you want from the bike and what feels comfortable. T7 is a bike meant for certain purpose (a lot focus on off-road) you may find that the amount of off-road you want to do is not that much and other bike would be more suitable. Don't forget that most of ADV riding is anyway about max 60/40 where 40 is off-road. And even that off-road is not super hard, I've done my whole ADV life on Honda CB500X!
      You don't need T7 or KTM690 or BMW to have adventure, you need to find what adventure you want to do and then the bike which will do most of it. No bike will be perfect anyway so it will be compromise.
      T7 is tall bike, get some experience on it or similar, it may be intimidating at first.
      Just my 2 cents.

    Get rid of the MM BC 35 bags. 20 lbs empty. Doesn't your rear end feel like an anchor? I sold mine and went with Enduristan...immediate improvement with handling and balance. Lots of choices that are cheaper, lighter and 100% waterproof without a liner. Try using your BC35's in a 2 hr rainstorm and weigh the bags again. The material soaks up water and weighs even more. Great video.

      @FARANDFURTHER  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I bought the Mosko moto panniers 2nd hand from other traveler to try them out. I do like most of the features but the weight is the biggest downside. I used Wolfman bags before on CB500X and they were working well and were much lighter. I was really thinking about trying some rackles system to save some weight. Good point about rain, I think the material of Moskos would soak up water indeed.

      @yellowsheeps 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FARANDFURTHER I bought the BC35's without holding product. Had I known, I would not have purchased. Lost money re-selling. Rackless fits the T7 well; horseshoes or standard design. There is a cheap horseshoe style bag from Poland called 21 Brothers. I prefer 2 bags on the side with a duffle on top. Enduristan Blizzard XL (34L total) fits very well. Add a 30L duffle and you've got enough room for most trips. Enjoy the T7...much more capable than the Honda.

      @tolga1cool 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FARANDFURTHER No I have not tried it yet. But I am definitely planning on taking a test ride when I finde the time. The 990 is absolutely brilliant but it's starting to show it's age. It's a powerfull loud and fun beast, but I'm about as tall as you and apart from doing wheelies the 25 less horsepower won't hurt me (I think) - so 20-30kg less weight and the economical and reliable engine sound very appealing to be honest

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is very very reasonable, what you say. I think that there is loads of power for wheelies (I lack the technique, it's not the bike) and also the fact is, yes there is less horses but also less kg, which means the power/weight ratio may not be that bad. So far the engine is fine. I had to adjust valve clerances on Honda CB500X at 100 000km, lets see how Yamaha will do ;)

I'm not afraid to scratch the bike so if I feel it will fall I just let it go and let it fall instead of trying to safe the bike. This way I keep myself safe(er) an just pickup the bike later.

      Hi, I'm 168cm tall and my inseam is about 70cm. The bike is tall, I can reach ground only with my tip toes and if I want flat foot I need to shift to one of the but cheeks. It's fine, but it needs practice.

      FAR&FURTHER one last question, have you lowered your bike? Or it's standard setting

      I'm on standard setting and standard seat. No worries, I like people asking questions.

    I wish the tenere had better range but everything else is great. Looking for a little more offroad capability than the stock cb500x so the yamaha tenere 700 looks ideal.

      Yea, T7 is great upgrade. The only thing is the height which may be limiting for some riders. It’s also more top heavy than CB500X due to the height.
      But so far nothing I could not live with.

      Ok. i found out in the next videos. Can't stop watching them, i found them interesting and i like that you don't try to be interesting just say your authentic experience. Most bike related videos try to grab your attention the wrong way and they are not authentic.

      I am 170 'high' , more often 170 'long' and didnt get the feet that far down when I tried...the height alone is not the point, its the inseam! I may be 1cm taller than youl, but your legs are longer....on the otherhand I am also a few kilos heavier than you.... my point is - dont get discouraged by your height, it can be overcome by technique. Your ridingskills you have developed, prove that!......didnt know that you could be so analytical. 😁😎 - great video!

      I should have put the height and inseam into the video... One big mistake.

      Yea, better economy as well. CB500X is wonderful bike for travel.

    you are small, when I stand next to a T7 then it looks like a bike. the cb500 is just a pocket bike like many others. i will be the first motorcycle designer that will make frames in 3 sizes.

      😂😂😂😂 Yes, I’m short! I have a friend and when he sits on the T7 it looks like he sits in the Honda Grom 😂

    How did you feel going from electronics to none? The lack of traction control and abs I've never experienced but the bike literally does everything I want for the budget otherwise.

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never owned motorcycle with much of electronics. ABS is what my bikes had nothing else. So for me it was really not issue. In terms of traction control I think about Honda CB500X engine and even T7 engine as traction control, it does not have too much power as KTMs/BMWs so it makes things easier. But for sure, clutch control is a key here.
      I'm sure if one gets used to traction control it would be quite a step back... maybe?
