Hello, I was interested in the way you protect the ends of the ladder to stop the digging into or scratching the house. I have always done that when I am painting the house,- it's just common sense?!. Also, I noticed a few people have commented on the fact that you should get what you Americans call a "critter cam". I assume they mean an outdoor, wireless camouflaged camera. I have just ordered one of those for my place here in a rural area of New South Wales (Australia). I will let you know how good/bad it is when it arrives. I do know that I am getting a lot of kangaroos passing through,- They leave "tell tales" behind!. They also damage fences,-particularly the younger ones that still cannot jump as high as the adults, so they try to go Through the fence, or Under it, which of course damages the fences. Something also stripped out my peach tree in the back yard, so I would like to know exactly what's passing through at night. I like the solar lights. I have used solar lights in the past and I have always been very happy with them.
I have motion lights every 20ft around the house and yard. I would have put them all around, but I don’t have enough money to have lights every 20ft around 170acres. Around all the buildings, farm areas eg. Animals, and plant beds and out buildings I have big fuck off halogen lights. Let me tell ya from personal experience, when I was hunting around some of my woodland i must have set one off I just about shit me self, let alone a predator or person who doesn’t know they are there
You might have raccoons, opossums, or foxes after your chickens. Check the trees near the house and see if there is a hollow tree around for them to stay in. Here is one thing I do to try to keep the diggers from digging into pens- go buy galvanized hardware cloth or fencing, 2 or 3 foot wide roll. Unroll it the length on the outside of the pen on each side and cut it to length, adding a bit to cover the corners. Then bend the cloth/fence up 6 -12 inches so it make a right angle and sits flat against your pen fence, zip or wire tie this to your pen walls. Use some landscape staples to hold the rest of the cloth/fence to the ground. Sometimes I bury it then plant grass on it, others I just let the grass grow up through it. Staple it well or the lawnmower may catch it. This will last about 5 years or so if it is buried. The overlap at the corners is to keep them from digging there and going under the rest of the fence.
My Dad had Macular Degeneration which is a nasty eye condition. Dr's told him it was caused from cleaning the chicken coop without decent ventilation. The high nitrogen of chicken poop was the key cause from what Dad told me. Maybe not a huge issue at our age and your setup but a dust mask or even a bandana when moving the poop wouldn't be a bad thing. I've been installing similar lights lately. I live in town so waiting for the looky lou's to complain they are visible at night suddenly.
If the City added a street light to the dark side of my corner lot it would never be dark! I have a big maple that defuses much of the street lights on my house. But with my deck I'm adding post top lights and smaller versions of your new lights in this video to the top of my windows. Cars driving by are turning those on.
Lot's of folks hate on the products I show....be kinda boring if I didn't do anything on the vlog other than walk around and show the goats pooping lol
I suspect your problem is dogs, coyotes or foxes . Weasels and such would have gone thru your 'security wire' long since ! Its spacing is too big ! OTOH, if you already have some lights installed, what makes you think more or brighter lights will deter your intruders. ? Predators have to associate the lights with pain or other serious unpleasantnesses in order to learn to stay away . Now if you rig the lights to initiate some M-80's you would be getting somewhere !
