  • Today we're taking a look at some of the prep work I did to a used 2.7T block, which will be my candidate for our 2.7T Build Off Challenge. I look at cleaning and painting the block, installing a new rear main seal, and repairing some damage on the piston tops from a timing belt failure.

I'm curious to know what everyone thinks about running those damaged pistons on K04s? Would you want to swap pistons? Would you be worried about the rods? Would you just send it?

only way to properly send it is to ring it out to 8500rpm!

I’m still reeling at the cleanliness of those pistons. As soon as I can find a source for diesel I’m cleaning some stuff!

Only way to develop it is by learning and then applying that knowledge!

I did this..but used grey silicone... is that gasket necessary??? when I removed my rear main cover I didn't see a gasket..

I’m not sure how necessary but the kit I got had the gasket in it. It seems like a pretty elaborate gasket because it’s got what seems like flow controlling holes in the one part of it.

can this be done with the upper pan on? I'm replacing my clutch and have read this should be done aswell.

What did the 2.8 heads come off of?

    • @PBGarage

      They’re off a 2.8 Passat. I think any of the 30V V6s heads work, so like 2.8 B5 A4s, 2.8 Passats, 2.8 C5 A6s. There’s probably more too.
