    Maybe I'm missing something but it looks like there is only one way to put that flex plate on with that guide pin at the 11 o'clock position

      yes, holes also are not evenly spaced, so there is only one way they are all lined up.

    Never lubricate the seal thats not how yiu fit them, they hane a coating on them , just clean the mating surfaces and once its 100% dry and clean you fit the seal.

      My seal will not fit over the crank with out a little bit of oil it seems, the inner rubber lip that holds the metal spring won’t pass over the crank.

    Hey! 👋🏼 I did what you did with the old seal..cosidering it was a perfect fit on the new seal to guide it in evenly. From my before picture, which i took as a reference, i saw that my rear main seal use to be flush with the cover. After i use my old seal on top the new one it got pushed past the lip/cover and is not as flush with the cover. What are the drawback of going in deeper than 'flush'? Thanks

      Thanks for the tips! If it goes too far in it can interfere with the crank etc.

    Sweet! I just got one of those seal removal tools free and now I know how to use it.

    It looks like in the video you inserted the tool between the seal and the crank. Are you not afraid if damaging the crank? Can you insert the tool in the center of the seal?

    Thanks man! I watched at least 20 videos and struggled for a couple of hours. Even with this tool. Your video gave me the technique to get it done. Rock on!

    hi. does the engine oil need to be drained

    Probably the safest way to remove an old seal as opposed to using a screwdriver to pry it out or driving in a screw then prying on that. Question: You thoroughly degreased the surfaces then reapplied some motor oil to the inside *and* outside before installing the new seal - why? Some say to fit the outside dry to prevent leaks with only a bit of grease on the inside. Thanks.

      I find that the seals surfaces inside and outside can be damaged if pressed in dry.

      @@killawattgarage I dunno what kind of seal you were installing, but PTFE seals should always be installed dry.

    If the seal is a housing + seal with an installation cup, should i grease the crankshaft ? Ty

      Good habit to ensure it is put back on the crankshaft in the same spot.

    I have a leak between gearbox and engine. How can I tell if its main seal leaking or transmission oil. Also would my car be hard to get into gear if the seal is leaking oil onto the flywheel.

    • @polypoly7966
      @polypoly7966 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manual transmission would have gear oil that smells different? Auto trans oil is red unless really dirty. Might help but not 100% reliable.

    If doing this with engine still in car, do you have to drain the engine oil first, or does all the oil sit lower than the bottom of the seal? Thx
