    Thank you! I’ve had my sdQ (not the H version) for 3 years now, and this is the first truly useful SPP video I’ve seen in that time. I’m going to revisit some of the images I’ve taken with this remarkable camera with the benefit of your experience. I love your description of the camera as a ‘digital roll of film’. Every time I take it out, I’m not quite sure what I’m going to come home with :)

    I can also recommend the alternative workflow with the Open Source command line tool Kalpanika/x3f_extract that can convert X3F files into14bit DNG files (that are clearly superior to the camera's own optional 12bit DNGs). These DNGs can be processed straight in Lightroom. Comparing X3Fs in Sigma Photo Pro and Kalpanika-generated DNGs in Lightroom right next to each other, I couldn't spot any differences in image/rendering quality.

    Thanks so much for doing this. I have an SDQH coming from eBay in a couple of days along with an adapter so I can put my pile of Mamiya 645 lenses on the front (only getting the 35mm 1.4 native lens). This is going to be so handy to get a process going with SPP and lightroom, and I was happy to find your lightroom profile link still worked! :)

    Finally!! It is good to see the Sigma SD Quattro H finally getting some (long overdue) attention. I have two Sigma SD Quattro H. One for fun and the other still brand new in box - for backup. The image quality out of the Sigma SD Quattro H is just.....speechless, like emotionally speechless 😂😂. I am a very very very very proud owner. The trick with the blue channel doesn't work for the quattro cameras. What it does with the Merrill is to only use the top layer of the sensor, so you don't get all the noise of the lower layers. Merrill also have quite aggressive micro contrast (mistaken for details) which can work well in B&W

    I like PhotoPro. I do find it weird that you can't crop your image in PhotoPro - which forces you to move the image into another software. I usually use 'neutral' or 'teal and orange -3'. I do use the lens correction in PhotoPro - assuming Sigma knows more about their lenses than anyone else. I also keep my SD Quattro at ISO 100 always. The Sigma fp is just the opposite - great results shooting indoors at high ISO such that I keep it on ISO AUTO all the time, unless I'm trying to replicate SFD mode with the fp, using the sub-IS0 100 settings Idown to IS0 6). I'm really enjoying your videos - thank you!

    Hi again: have you had any problems with using LR in post? I have noted a recent problem with my Sigma H X3 F-PS files when removing halos via the Clone Stamp in the darken blend mode as used by many in PS. The new changes in PS may be an issue ? How do you open your X3F files in LR...i''m not an LR user. LR is a parametric editor..it uses a copy of the file to edit PS is a pixel based editor operating directly on image pixels. Thanks in advanced for any help

    Hey, Alexis, I was the one commenting on your post-processing skills and asked you to make a video. I can't believe you actually did! Thank you! You diminish yourself in saying you're not doing anything special. It takes a trained eye and experience to make these decisions. Even subtle changes sometimes make a difference. That said, I'm quite surprised by the default output of SDQH and the AWB is surprisingly good! DP2 Merril is horrible in comparison. I believe highlights recovery is also better than Merrill's, but a direct comparison is needed. By the way, are you interested in making one?)

    How would you compare the SD Quattro to the Merrill cameras from an image quality or film-like perspective? I own the DP Merrills and used to own a SD Quattro APS-C with the 50-100 f/1.8, which I truly loved using, but the weight prevented me from being a "natural" photographer. I felt that I had to struggle to hold the gear long enough to compose the shot I was aiming for.

  • @innstikk
    @innstikk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice video. My experience is that I set it to smooth and bump up sharpness, rather than setting it towards crisp and drop sharpness. This is because the smooth - crisp can be very aggressive and you get black contrast lines where there should not be any. Sharpness doesn't do this. I don't like Portrait either as it smoothens the image.

      @@OneMonthTwoCameras BTW I really appreciate your videos on the Foveon cameras. The imported x3f is the same 16 bitt TIFF that you export from SPP and according to Sigma HQ literally 45 minutes from my home here in Japan, they claim that it is a RAW file however my close friends who are Sigma pro users do not agree. For skin tones, the Foveon in the SD Q line up and Quattro are not the same as the DP and Merrill cameras. The SD Q are three layers but have a dominant one unlike the equally divided ones found in the DP and Merrill. I've spoken with Sigma here about this and they are developing a new equally divided Foveon like the SD 1 which still resolves like no other. This is one reason why skin tones can be challenging with the x3, in fact I cringe when I have dark skinned clients but I found some LR skin tone presets that fix this quickly. One thing and I am not sure you mentioned it, you can remove the IR filter, turning the camera into an instant infrared camera and when you put the Kolari IR Chrome filter on it you have some truly unique imagery.
