It’s pretty sad that people are drawing a conclusion without reading the description of the video. “New Zealand’s parliament was disrupted by a haka on November 14, during the reading of a controversial bill that proposes to alter the way the country’s treaty between the indigenous Maori and the British Crown is interpreted. A vote on the bill was suspended when opposition parties and people in the public gallery joined in the haka, led by Patri Maori MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, who also ripped up a copy of the bill. The bill has been criticized for challenging principles outlined in New Zealand’s founding document, the Treaty of Waitangi - signed in 1840 between the British Crown and more than 500 Maori chiefs. The bill later passed its first reading and Maipi-Clarke was suspended, the NZ Herald reported. Thousands of people have been on a nine-day march towards Wellington in opposition to the bill”.

@@deadlyoneablethe current treaty (even though it is not fully honoured) is interpreted as a co-governance between the Maori people and non-maori people. The reinterpretation of the treaty would mean that the government would have full power of governance. So the basic rundown of the bill and how it differs from Te tiriti is this: 1. "The New Zealand Government has the right to govern all New Zealanders." What’s missing? The Māori text of Te Tiriti uses the term "kāwanatanga," which refers to governance but not in a way that overrides Māori tino rangatiratanga (absolute chieftainship). The English version, however, uses "sovereignty," which has historically caused confusion and breaches of the Treaty. This wording reinforces the idea of unilateral Crown authority, undermining the partnership and shared governance that Te Tiriti intended to establish. 2. "The New Zealand Government will honour all New Zealanders in the chieftainship of their land and all their property." What’s missing? This interpretation significantly alters the meaning of tino rangatiratanga. In Te Tiriti, Māori retained absolute authority over their lands, homes, and treasures (taonga). The bill’s wording suggests the government will merely "honour" this authority, which is far weaker than the original guarantee. It diminishes the distinct rights promised to Māori and ignores the cultural and historical significance of taonga. 3. "All New Zealanders are equal under the law with the same rights and duties." What’s missing? Equality is important, but this interpretation oversimplifies the nuanced promise of Te Tiriti. Article 3 guaranteed Māori the same rights as British subjects in addition to their existing rights as tangata whenua. The bill flattens this relationship, ignoring historical breaches and the inequities Māori have faced. True equity often requires tailored approaches to address systemic injustices, rather than a blanket approach that treats everyone as though the playing field is already level. The Bigger Issue: The bill centralizes the power to define Te Tiriti’s principles in the hands of politicians, excluding Māori voices from interpreting their own treaty rights. This undermines the spirit of Te Tiriti, which was founded on partnership, protection, and participation. By sidelining Māori input, the bill risks eroding the rights guaranteed under the Treaty and creating further division, rather than fostering the mutual respect and collaboration it promised.
I never understood how hakas were intimidating. They just always looked hilarious to me. If any battles were won because of a haka it's probably because the enemy died laughing.

It was incredibly touching to watch the Māori haka, a potent cultural symbol of resistance, unity, and identity, performed in New Zealand's Parliament. The youngest Member of Parliament and a proud Māori representative, Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke, demonstrated persistence and devotion to the cause of equity by using the haka as a daring act of protest. Her fellow Māori representatives and supporters' impulsive engagement demonstrated the strong sense of pride and community among them. It was a powerful demonstration of political courage and cultural pride.

To understand this in the USA, the proposed bill is the same as the opposition wanting to rewrite the Constitution to take your freedom of speech away. The British Crown could not defeat the Maori in war so they made a treaty with some of the Maori tribes to govern parts of the land but not outright own it. The British Crown quickly acted to dismantle and weaken the Maori's greatest strength, its culture. And by culture, it forbid the speaking of Maori language and Maori tribal/family tatoos called Tā moko, especially face tattoos. The Crown and the media framed a negative public narrative of Maori that still exists today. This bill is riding the wave of the Voice bill in Australia that failed due to another heavily propagated negative media campaign against Aboriginal people. The British Crown via the Australian government also punished Aboriginals if they spoke or taught their languages and culture. The Crown and the Mass Media owners want 4 things from Maori and Aboriginals: 1) Total ownership of all land rights. 2) Zero accountability for any cultural devastation. 3) Zero compensation for the profits made on or selling of land. 4) Immortal Taxes on all land and income. The Maori and Aboriginals want 2 things, 1) To preserve land for all generations to respect. 2) To sit down and listen to the wisdom of elders and learn from culture. That is why this young lady is New Zealand's parliament's worst nightmare, a fearless young woman standing up for her people in a public arena face to face with the British Crown representatives.... it's not hard to think both Maori and Aboriginal women have been fighting the Crown for hundreds of years. What you will see happen over the next period of time: 1) NZ Goverment will issue on-mass negative campaigns against her actions. 2) Media outlets will create PR news campaigns that will present negative Maori views. 3) Mass negative comments from robot trolls will flood the comments sections on social media. 4) Media outlets will continue mass negative statements of all print, online and TV until goals are achieved. 5) You will not hear who is funding these campaigns yet will be costing millions in media buying. 6) Politicians will hold Press events aggressively stating their disdain for Maori and disrupting parliament. 7) Politicians will aggressively create a narrative of heroism for wanting the best for the people. 8) Politicians will weaponise their own persons of culture (Maori) to fight against another Maori. 9) The same people buying media will also include social media influences in their budget. 10) Rinse and repeat. Billionaires protecting a Trillion-dollar estate Vs a Maori Woman preserving her culture and land.

So the basic rundown of the bill and how it differs from Te tiriti is this:
1. "The New Zealand Government has the right to govern all New Zealanders."
What’s missing? The Māori text of Te Tiriti uses the term "kāwanatanga," which refers to governance but not in a way that overrides Māori tino rangatiratanga (absolute chieftainship). The English version, however, uses "sovereignty," which has historically caused confusion and breaches of the Treaty. This wording reinforces the idea of unilateral Crown authority, undermining the partnership and shared governance that Te Tiriti intended to establish.
2. "The New Zealand Government will honour all New Zealanders in the chieftainship of their land and all their property."
What’s missing? This interpretation significantly alters the meaning of tino rangatiratanga. In Te Tiriti, Māori retained absolute authority over their lands, homes, and treasures (taonga). The bill’s wording suggests the government will merely "honour" this authority, which is far weaker than the original guarantee. It diminishes the distinct rights promised to Māori and ignores the cultural and historical significance of taonga.
3. "All New Zealanders are equal under the law with the same rights and duties."
What’s missing?
What they really want is the rights to pillar our land without needing to consult the landowners

Maipi-Clarke made a significant statement by bringing this practice into politics, connecting Indigenous culture with contemporary government and strengthening the ongoing fight against systematic marginalization.

What you will see happen over the next period of time:
1) NZ Goverment will issue on-mass negative campaigns against her actions.
